It's not that you were favored, it's that you were able to talk about all of the programs that you applied to and didn't continuously sound like you were speaking off a rehearsed script. I remember this interview because it was my interview.

I would also point out that this is a much abbreviated transcript of what actually occurred...

Interesting you were able to remember..

VO: (Repeats)
ME: (Stuttered a bit) I'm just going for a Masters Degree in Mathematics.
Yeah, but you should have a research you'll be working on.
ME: (Wondering...Na wa ooo) Okay, I'll be working on Development of Mathematical Models that can be used to solve real life problems, ranging from health to production and so on.
VO: (Nodding and typing very fast, also taking momentary peep at my I-20) Okay Okay. (Picked the white paper and passed it to me with my I-20, then she said the usual stuff) You'll need this (I-20) at the Port of Entry
ME: (sincerely I thought she wanted to pick a blue paper. Just like that? I started wondering why this woman will not allow me prove myself by at least asking me more 'usual' questions. Dear Nairalanders, I need your help. My visa application was denied today, below is my transcript.
VO: Which schools did you applied to?
Me: GSU, ETSU and MTU.
VO: Tell me about the research ongoing at GSU?
Me:Smart grid network analysis using algorithm developed by GRID LAB D in enforcing QoS on electricity grid. Those where the two questions I was asked.
I want to know what could have caused the denial so I can use it to improve on my application.

Maybe too many VOs lurking here sad sad
Yesterday it was a question of why did you apply to Another school which was not the chosen school
Today it is research on another school not the chosen school
YOU ALL SEE A PATTERN ..... Throwing you off for those who just memorize previously answered questions.
I would go again and pray for a better VO that would allow you to express yourself .
Only feedback for next time - Know in fully details why the course , why each school , and the research . Maybe he felt the research statement was very abstract . Keep talking and show passion for what you plan on working for ... As long as you know that well , you cant be thrown off any question.
I cant really give you much feedback other than apply again .

Interesting you were able to remember..

Not really.

It's not particularly difficult to remember an interview within the last couple of days. You see maybe 15-20 students, so that narrows it down significantly, and then you ask particular question - in this case about why he chose a different school. And if you have to spend an extended amount of time with a person because you think they might actually be a qualified student but they keep giving you answers that don't quite make sense for whatever reason... you remember those more.

In a week though it will all be a blur.

Thanks bro, the only thought that came to my mind was that the i-20 I provided was for ETSU though GSU gave me admission also. Thought I should have told him my i-20 was for ETSU, I was calm. I just can't fathom what went wrong.

Gurus in the house, is it possible to provide I-20 of a school and claim you'll be headed for a different school during visa interview? This right here, I think, is what went wrong. Refire and use GSU's I-20 this time. But during your next interview, explain the mistake you made & how you've learnt your lesson.
