The current CNN poll isn't a surprise; after all both McCain and Romney received bumps in the post-convention polls in 08 and 12 respectively, but still lost in landslides to Obama.

Trump would lose badly in his home state of New York by over 30% points too.

Nevertheless, the key for Secretary Clinton winning the election would be to maximize the turnout of Democrats/millennials/women to the November 8 polls.

If women make up a majority of the voters, as they did in 2012, where they comprised 53% of the electorate, and vote overwhelmingly for Hillary, she'd be the president-elect; ditto for the millennial vote.

Also, if she garners around 45% of the white men vote, she would be on her way to victory. That's one of the reasons she chose Senator Tim Kaine as her running mate - to cut into Trump's lead among White men.

Right now, Trumps unfavorable rating amongst women is around 70%, and his unfavorable rating among Latinos is 77%, and over 90% among Blacks. But the key for him to win in November would be to maximize and perform well with independents.

Right now, he is leading Secretary Clinton amongst independents, but may have to win that demographic by double digits, and maximize turnout of Republicans in order to have any hope of victory.

There are differences between whites, blacks and Hispanics in response to the question asking if race or ethnicity should be taken into account in college admissions decisions in order to promote diversity, with 44% of blacks agreeing, compared with 22% of whites and 29% of Hispanics. Still, half of blacks are more likely to agree with the merit approach.

At the same time, these groups' views of the Supreme Court decision are similar, with all three much more likely to disapprove of it than approve.

When asked about the list of nine possible factors colleges can consider in admissions, whites are less likely than blacks or Hispanics to say race should be a major factor in colleges' decisions. But the differences are only a matter of degree: 4% of whites, 17% of blacks and 26% of Hispanics say race and ethnicity should be a major factor.
