before oil, when the north was the one feeding the whole country ( remember the groundnut pyramids in kano ? ) they didnt secede, i dont see why they will start now. they are bound by higher morals in the north. it is ugandans who discover oil and all of a sudden want to secede lolzzz

That time never existed, it is a fact that each region feeds itself
before the discovery of oil.

Nigeria has the potential to export over 4 million barrels of crude per day... Over 70 oil blocks owned by Nigerians produce far less than 500,000 barrels per day even tho it has a potential of over 3 million bpd...
We have oil in the North yes even if it won't be as much as Niger Delta but at least it can feed refineries in the North for local consumption and that's good
As for those condemning Buhari oil exploration in the North, hope u didn't forget Jonathan did Same... Hope u are not blind to see also the effort Buhari is marking to extend our water boundaries to to include more oil blocks and push our output to over 6 million bpd in the next few years
Yes we need to diversify dose not mean we don't explore oil to the fullest... Imagine a Nigeria were money gotten from 6 million bpd contributes less than 20% of the budget... Then we would be able to solve most of our problems
Thanks u very much

opec has pegged nigeria @2.5m per day....and aint u selfish and greedy now for saying "northern consumption " only? God is watching o

Let this be true...the North deserves their own crude deposits... They've been called parasites(nke bukwanu eziokwu) which is quite unfair to them...pls Lord answer our fervent prayers as regards this smiley

Will oil increase the literacy rate from below 50% to above 80% as it is in the South?

Will it stop Northerners from selling their own daughters into a lifetime of sexual slavery?

Those are the root causes of the poverty that is so prevalent in the North, not a lack of oil.

Oil is not the only source of wealth.

The Northerners have not just discovered that spot where oil deposit is in outrageous quantity. There terrain proves it s somewhere around and deep research needs to be done.

Oil always in large quantity`s in Hot desert like terrains. they definitely will have a larger reserve than the Niger Delta

Niger delta avenger have opened Nigeria economy to better life & opportunities. If God be 4 u , 1000 avengers cannot stand against Nigeria. Na only them go lose. I think this July federal allocation with 70 % non oil derivation is enough to tell niger delta that they have failed.

someone tell the president the price of oil barrel has further dropped ,shale oil has crashed the market, America is no longer buying Crude. groundnut oil is more viable than crude .further exploration is a waste of money. So what I want to know is who the discovery in Niger epp?

its good hearing some northern states have the potential for oil exploration however am not delighted by the the governments intensified efforts to drill oil commercially from new sources given falling global oil prices. focus instead should be moved away from oil exploration to other sectors. Diversification! Nigeria ought to have learnt enough from the woes oil exploration has brought us.

God bless you real good for this comment. The extent of damage parasite of hate has done to some people's brain is unimaginable.

Anytime they talk about oil exploration in the North, they will just start bad mouthing the efforts as if there is no local consumption of oil products over there.

As you have said, if the quantity discovered is just enough to meet local consumption, it will go a long way in economically developing that area. An opportunity to export petroleum products to surrounding African countries also abound in this regard.

The second basin.lol the Northern dudes are more tricky and intelligent than alot of their other counterparts though many will argue against it.Once they get an idea, they dont rinse it,they use the same idea because Nigerians don't learn nor read nor ask questions but have short memorys and complain bitterly of people they have marked in their hearts.

Okay since i ant one of them i'm going to ask Buhari.40Billion Bucks was released for discoovering of oil according to the office of the presidency this year, can you start providing results of the expenditure please? And to the other sane Nigerians which is better spend another 40billion to start looking for oil,or fund a joint wallet with the oil companies and states and do a cleanup execrices that can create thousands of jobs across the oil spilled areas whether producing or not ? Is this too much to ask ?

When I gained admission to study petroleum emgineering, people said before I graduate, there will no longer oil in Nigeria. I was worried not until my final year when Professor Appah was taking us inflow/outflow performance in production.

I told him my worries and he said; "Nigeria is a large oil reservoir with pockets of gas here and there"...He spent the next 20mins explaining and showing locations of oil in Nigeria.

In summary, every state has oil only that not all are commercially viable/mature..
