National Defence College set to induct of
military officers from Brazil, Turkey, Germany,
India in Sept.
The National Defence College (NDC) says it
will, for the first time in its history, admit
foreign participants from Brazil, Turkey,
Germany and India, for the college’s next
academic programme to be inaugurated on
Sept. 15, 2016.
The college secretary, Air Vice Marshal Uko
Ebong disclosed this on Friday in Abuja while
addressing a news conference on the
forthcoming graduation of institution’s course
24 participants.
According to AVM Ebong, admitting foreign
participants from these countries would
improve the institution’s strategic partnership
with the armed forces countries around the
world.
He added that the interest shown in the
college’s academic programme was a
testimony to the excellence that the college
had attained over the years.
His words, ``The National Defence College
provides the highest level of formal military
education intended to inculcate a sense of
advance military professionalism and
involvement in the decision making process.
“I am happy to state here that the next course
of the NDC will be having participants from
Turkey, Germany, India, Brazil and other allied
African countries and it is expected to be
inaugurated on Sept. 15, 2016.
“It is my earnest desire to continue to
promote the college as the centre of
excellence for developing potential strategic
leaders in Africa and globally’.’
Ebong noted that the college would in the
nearest future open its doors to participants
from the private sector as part of efforts to
increase public awareness on the issue of
national security.
He said the college’s proposal to admit
participants from the private sector was also
borne out of the need to increase the
understanding of civilians on defence and
security issues.
Ebong said the college had in the past years
of its existence made deliberate efforts to
improve on the content and quality of its
programmes which had attracted interests
within and outside Africa.
He said alumni of the college had
distinguished themselves in different positions
of responsibility given them both at strategic
and command levels.
The secretary of the college said some
aspects of the institution’s curriculum had
been reviewed while infrastructure and other
facilities at the college had been upgraded in
line with its growing status.
On the course 24 graduation, Ebong said 130
participants comprising officers from the
Armed Forces, Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security
and Civil Defence Corps and the Department
of State Service participated in the course.
According to him, other participants of the
course 24 include officers from the Federal
Road Safety Corps, Nigerian Immigration
Service, Ministry of Defence and allied
countries of Ghana, Sierra-Leone, Benin and
Zambia.
Ebong said the overall performance of
participants was adjudged above average
while their general conduct was satisfactory.
He said the highpoint of the graduation
ceremony was the presentation of certificates
to participants by President Muhammadu
Buhari on August 5.
Ebong added that the Emir of Kano, Sanusi
Lamido would deliver the graduation lecture
on August 3 on the theme `Deregulation of the
downstream oil sector and Nigeria’s
economic development: an appraisal’.
It will be recalled that the graduating NDC
course 24 was inaugurated in September

TROOPS AMBUSH BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS OFF DAMBOA ROAD In continuation of their clearance operations against the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in various nooks and crannies of the North East geo-political zone of the country, troops on Operation LAFIYA DOLE last night carried out a successful ambush against Boko Haram terrorists at a crossing point. The ambush party decisively dealt with the terrorists riding on bicycles at a crossing point off Damboa-Kubwa road towards Multe village axis. The team killed 1 terrorist, while others escaped with gun shot wounds. The troops recovered 1 AK-47 rifle with registration number 565907530 and14 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, a wooden Dane Gun shaped to the resemblance of an AK-47rifle, 1 fabricated double-barrelled pistol and 4 bicycles. In a related development, earlier this morning, there was a report of a suspected bag containing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) near ECC premises, which is adjacent to the residence of a former governor of Borno State, Malla Kachalla, along Pompomari bye-pass in Maiduguri. The Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) team were immediately called while the military provided outer cordon as the team successfully and safely demobilized the IED bag. ^^ The troops engaged the suicide bomber who probably sneaked out on them in very close proximity to be so close to the MRAP. The dead driver indicates that they engaged him at sight and probably killed in time before detonation. His momentum saw him crash with the vehicle but nothing happened thankfully. |

my take and the guys in the mrap were doing the best that could be done under the circumstances and as they say FORTUNE FAVORS THE BRAVE. i gave a possible explanation of what happened in the last 60 seconds or so before the impact kudos to the boys in that mrap. as shown in the picture below 1.vbied pursues mrap up-close (dont know how the vbied meet up with mrap in the first place) 2.mrap does a hard left maneuver 3.vbied driver fails to anticipate the mrap flanking move and overshoots the mrap. 4.very quickly the vbied driver does a CRAZY u-turn ( see the attached picture ),skidding on all the four wheels to hit the mrap mrap last maneuver saves it , because the vbied driver gets kind of surprised by it and does a hasty uncontrolled U turn in his attempt to hit the mrap which he does but not with enough force. the soldiers must have got down from the mrap and shot the stunned driver at point blank range on the head if the guys were sleeping , why did the vbied do a crazy u turn in order to hit it. it could have hit the stationary mrap straight head on. this is my theory only , believe it at ur peril

Katyusha: the mrap was caught unaware initially no doubt about that the vbied must have sneaked up from the bushes etc, but they recovered fast enough to maneuver to try to keep out of reach of the vbied and also to try to get it within the firing angle of the mounted guns . if the mrap had not done the last few seconds maneuvering , the vbied would not have gotten in uncontrolled skidding and would have slammed head on with full force thus triggering the ied. this is what happened 1.vbied persues mrap up-close (dont know how the vbied meet up with mrap in the first place) 2.mrap does a hard left maneuver 3.vbied driver fails to anticipate the move and overshoots the mrap. 4.very quickly the vbied driver does a CRAZY u-turn ,skidding on all the four wheels to hit the mrap mrap last maneuver saves it , because the vbied driver gets kind of surprised by it and does a hasty uncontrolled U turn in his attempt to hit the mrap which he does but not with enough force. the soldiers must have got down from the mrap and shot the stunned driver at point blank range on the head grin see the picture attached above if u have doubts therefor the few seconds of the end response from the mrap saved it , it is not a easy task to maneuver a high rise mrap . the driver did a good job in the end. none of us here will be able to emulate what the driver of the mrap probably did 2 Likes |

The MRAP and its crew may have been caught unawares initially. but their sharp and professional reaction saved the day. If we are honest no body can maintain 100% alertness, 100% of the time. Dont forget even in a war zone, an event like this is still a relatively uncommon occurrence especially now that BH has been significantly degraded. A professional is not one who does not make mistakes, but one who is skilled and focused enough to catch and remedy his mistakes before they result in extensive loss or damage. All in all these guys did well, and you can be sure they will be even more alert when they go on patrol tomorrow. nemesis2u: |

Morocco Supports Nigeria
Militarily to Fight against Boko
Haram
By Youssef Igrouane -
August 1, 2016 , 2:31 pm
Rabat – Morocco has decided to support Nigeria
militarily in the fight against Boko Haram, a
terrorist organization based in Nigeria, Cameron
and Chad, according to French news website Le
Monde.
According to a Moroccan government official
quoted by Le Monde, King Mohammed VI has
authorized the provision of military equipment and
supplies- except for lethal munitions- to Nigeria,
in hope that giving military assistance to
Morocco’s traditional ally will help to fight the
recurrent incursions by Boko Haram in Nigeria.
“Discussions are still underway to decide the
exact nature of the military equipment and terms
and delivery’s procedures to the [Nigerian]
authorities.” The government’s official was quoted
by Le Monde as saying.
The decision to support Nigeria came after King
Mohammed VI formally requested to return to the
African Union (AU) via a message to the AU
summit in Rwanda two weeks ago.
This decision is regarded as an unprecedented
initiative from Morocco to supply the military
apparatus to help sub-Saharan countries to
combat terrorism.
Last June, Boko Haram committed a bombing
attack that killed at least 11 people in a mosque
in Cameroon.
In the same month, Medicins Sans Frontieres
reported that almost 200 Nigerian refugees who
escaped from Boko Haram have died from
starvation and malnutrition in the Bama refugee
camp, Nigeria.
Boko Haram recently joined ISIS and now calls
itself the “ISIS of West Africa” and claims that
Western education is a sin. |

OPERATION AWATSE: NIGERIAN AIR FORCE STRIKES CRIMINAL CAMPS AND HIDEOUTS AT AREPO AND ENVIRONS The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) again today struck at criminal hideouts and camps harbouring pipeline vandals at AREPO and environs. The latest air strike is in continuation of the aerial bombardment commenced by the NAF on Thursday 28 July 2016 to rid the affected areas of pipeline vandals and other criminal elements. The ongoing air operations is aimed at providing air support for the Joint Task Force recently set-up by the Defence Headquarters to dislodge pipeline vandals in the South West region of the Country in an operation codenamed OPERATION AWATSE. There are strong indications based on analysis of the enclosed footage on Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), as well as Strike and, Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) missions undertaken by NAF aircraft that the vandals have been sufficiently displaced from their current locations at AREPO while their criminal activities have also been heavily disrupted. The NAF however is intensifying its ongoing air operations day and night to neutralise the remnants of the vandals who might have relocated deep inside the Mangrove Forest. Recall that the NAF is at present operating in 4 zones across the country to tackle various forms of internal security challenges. They include insurgency in the North East; cattle rustling, kidnapping and armed robbery in the North West; militancy in the South-South; and pipeline vandalism in the South West. |
