Okay. You will need to be honest with your application. Provide much details as possible about the conference and and be confidence during the interview. However, the lack of strong tie will be a minus. Like we all know, only the VO can decide if to approve or not.

It has been said many many times. The USA visa officers do not look at invitation letters!
Your application must stand up on it's own. Strong ties to prove you will return home. Robust finances.

Duration to stay in the US is at the discretion of the POE. The standard duration allowable is 6 months. It could be less and even deny entry depending on how the POE perceived you reason for entry. Why not get the visa first and worried about that later.

Hubby won't be following us because of the nature of his work(owns a business). I wanted to know my chances because my mum and I have never traveled outside nigeria before, although I have a bank job as a junior officer though(salary abt 100k), hubby will be sponsoring my trip and my mum would be sponsoring herself since she is a federal civil servant(grade 14). would we be granted visa since I'm traveling with an infant and I haven't been married for more than a year and my mum is sponsoring her self.

I was refused this morning at Window 1 Lagos

Quite surprising. The transcript went thus

V.O: Good morning
Me: Good morning

V.O: pass me ur passport
I passed the current one and added the old ones then she asked to pass only the current one.

V.O: what would you like to go n do at the united states
Me: Attending the conference of bla bla bla in Chicago

V.O types and types, then hands me the blue paper
Unfortunately, the blue paper says I can't appeal

She didn't evn check payslips or bank account which are pretty much okay. She didn't ask if I was married

Ur UK friends most likely had no ties to Nigeria. Those meaningless trips are fun! U should try it. Believe me. I'm going on a meaningless trip soon. I don't know why I bought a tkt but I'm going to open my mind. Soak up the fun and visit the alp mountains in Europe.

I spent most of last year in US, i renewed my visa but changed my mind to tour Europe this year, im considering touring Asia next year, and one day Australia.

Travel. It opens up your mind.

@ Chealsefan1 and laeksyde; i'm sorry it ended in refusals, if care is not taken, it can be upsetting kind of.

Pls "study" this thread like one writing an exam on it and you will see where you got it wrong and why you got refused.

VOs do not have all the time in the world to attend to an applicant, your DS160 does the job, your presence is to "defend" what you filled therein.

@ Chealsefan1 and @laeksyde I'm sorry about the refusal and I believe that in the case where they asked you 1 or 2 questions and refuse you... it means you've made a big flaw/mistake in your DS160 form or when they ask you ''why are you going to the U.S'' You said for Terrorism instead of Tourism Make God no allow us see evil...lolzzzz

I am about booking a flight to the US, my POE is Orlando Florida, but found out that it's way cheaper going through New York. The exchange rate is not helping matters at all. I plan to take a train to Florida from New York. Please is this decision going to be a problem?.

I'm pretty much illuminated and I think I might just be ready for my interview.

So far I've learnt a couple of things

1. Letting anxiety overwhelm you will only lead you down one road. Denial.

2. You almost absolutely dont need no extra papers works.

A conference is not an emergency.

The earlier you get in there and apply, the earlier you'll find dates.
The more you waste time asking questions, the more you lose those early dates.
