Hello Seun,

It is true that being in the Nation Nigeria is good but we have to be fair and sincere to each other. I don't know how old you and but you need to know why the people feel the way they feel. The way ended 46 years ago but it is still raging in the minds of the leaders of Nigeria like OBJ, Buhari and co.

if you don't know let me tell you.
1. 2 million ibo's were killed in cold blood in that war
2. No compensation paid to these people till date
3. at the end of the war every money you have was taken away and you are given 20pounds even if you have 1million pounds.
4. Properties owned by ibo's were termed abandoned properties across the nation.
5. Some families were extinct

If this is past let it be past. Tell me what any successive government has done in that region from 1970 that is visible. Once a typical Nigerian politician says we will not let ibo's go has scored a political point.

What we want is a country that will create enabling platform for all citizens and not slowing others down because of greed, sectionalism. I know you are enjoying the mess right from Gowon till date. Your future and the future of your children depends on what this nation is today unless you have people who have taken enough money from the Government but people need to move on.

If one Nigeria is the way then we truly need to be one Nigeria. President Buhari has he visited any part of South East? NO. We must not vote for him or share the same political ideology with him. Why people did not vote for him was simple. In his days as President and PTF chairman I challenge you and anyone in naira land to mention one program he did in the south east. If it is books for school children then people voted in ignorance. That is what informed the decision and he is doing the same as the president you elected even though some people voted him from the region.

In all, I blame my Governors, my leaders for all the mess. if they should avoid corruption and offer selfless service to the people the region will change and then economic prosperity of the nation will depend on their ingenuity but what do you see today monsters who fight their way to the corridor of power.

In summary, if you are in the shoes of the Ibo's till date you will feel the same way. There is need for total reconciliation and in as much as that is not done this feeling will be there. The reconciliation may be emotional in nature, integration in nature, political in nature and may not be in monitory terms.

Afonjastic

Isreal is slightly the size of Lagos

Switzerland is less than the size of Abuja.

Niger is roughly twice the size of Nigeria but with less than 5% of its entire landmass fit for human occupation.

Even the mighty British Isles is roughly the size of Borno State.

Size does after all not matter.

A day will come when this thread will have to be pulled down by the owner.

@seun fears the inevitable.. if you cannot control or influence the situation.. you grasp at straws and claw at the wind as if it would move you forward. an ideal starts from the mind.. once it is set.. it cannot be uprooted until it meets a superior ideal. On this present path.. separation is inevitable

Because of this i will empty my bank account to create the largest forum in Africa, your suggestion is absolutely wrong especially in a democratic nation like Nigeria. Dont't push me to start hating nairaland, i have loved this site and has been a regular reader but don't force me to hate nairaland.

ONE NIGERIA is possible. bt the truth be told there is no national spirit and so a -one Nigeria is only bt a dream. if law 9 must be effective, name callin, d use of euphemism, innuendo and sarcasm must be checked. again, interviews that promotes sectional interest must also b checked. while it is true that one is first a member of an ethnic group before being a Nigerian, it is neccessary to stop promoting views wit secessionist tendencies. to help end d Biafran agitation which in my thinkin is a movement and beyond nairaland is for seun and co to show by way of informed argument that is more to gain in one-restructured Nigeria than goin separate ways. Because the Nigeria of today is not one that works for the people bt one in which the people av been dubed by the elites. Diktat is wat is making Biafra to sell

Anonymity is a shield from the tyranny of the majority. It thus exemplifies the purpose behind freedom of expression which on its own, apart from being enshrined in our constitution, is a fundamental right of every human being on the planet in particular: to protect unpopular individuals from retaliation and their ideas from suppression at the hand of an intolerant society.

The right to remain anonymous may be abused when it shields fraudulent conduct. but political speech by its nature will sometimes have unpalatable consequences, and, in general, civilised societies accords greater weight to the value of free speech than to the dangers of its misuse.

Bearing the above in mind with respect to our own Nairaland community and the ever expanding rule books which has led to wanton censorship of alternative ideologies not sanctioned by the "owner", I see parallels with NL censorship similar to that emanating from the current fascist elements occupying Aso Rock.

Rules are a necessity to order. Even in human past time activity like sports, rules are needed to define the boundaries and conduct of participants towards promoting friendly competition. But where rules define society and not society defining the rules, you have an authoritarian dictatorship at the helms bent on keeping the populace in strict line to their selfish definition of reality.

This is where Seun and Nairaland have failed woefully. By trying to control the context of debate here strictly to their parochial narrow views, seun and his mods are forgetting what built Nairaland from an obscure forum to one of Africa's biggest.

Majority of members here come to this site to sample and debate the views and opinions of their peers.

The professional media has lost the right as a credible and balanced source of news content and opinions. This is why NL grew because at the onset you provided an open platform for all members irrespective of societal status to be aired and heard.

Sooner or later another forum will rise to overtake yours.

My unsolicited advice to you is to strongly consider the following mandates and begin to promote them on your website :

1. To provide a platform of debate to widen the scope of financial, economic and political information available to the professional investing public.

2 To skeptically examine and, where necessary, attack the flaccid institution that financial journalism has become.

3.to liberate oppressed knowledge.

4. to provide analysis uninhibited by political constraint.

5.to facilitate information's unending quest for freedom.

Promote these ideals and see your website grow in leaps and bounds or else someone else will imbibe these core tenets of freedom and build a bolder, fearless army of online activists and intellectuals.

This 5th estate is feared most by the corrupt elite. What we say and promote here should serve as a wakeup call to them to act an do the right thing.

The President has a retinue of special advisers, aides and even a substantive ministry patrolling the cyber space.

We should not fear them neither should you support them in quieting dissenting opinions rather this forum should stand as the peoples voice and should not be lost to the establishment.

Good day.

Strange.

I could have sworn certain Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was in the saddle for 5+ years, and needless to add, despite the neglect, your people voted overwhelming to have him "continue his good work".

Just to site one example, Enugu-onitsha road, arguably one of the most popular and strategic roads in the S/east was in the same shameful, decrepit and deplorable state for all his tenure. Renovation just started few months ago.
