LUCAS,
I am just able to gather my thoughts about your situations. I tried replying your original post but anti spam locked me out.

Anyways, from all indication you have everything going good for you. Is there still something we dont know more than what you told us. You called me about a month ago, crying and i tried to give you all the solution and i later had to tell you to go to nigeria if you think you cant cope. You are a man and this your matter na child play.

From all our conversations, you show yourself to be dependent on people and you have so much put your trust on people and you prefer to live on people's advice. How will someone advice you to be out of status without providing you another means of survival. You knew you are weak at heart and you dont have liver to stay illegal then you could type oridnary letter to get your reinstatement fix.

I hope you can call me if you wish. There is still light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there bro.

Word of advice to others who care to hear: Dont listen to people advice without having your map drawn already because what works for A might not work for Z. If you dont have the mind , dont do it. Some people have been out of status since day 1 and they dont even care. Anerica hustle is not for the weak-hearted.
I will try and call this morning Ma by 7:00am.

Lucas

First, let me tell you that you are one of the very few and lucky F-1 students in America. In case you don't know, there are thousands of people who have fallen out of status right from the first day they came in to America. You have a cashier's job that is putting food on the table and you are complaining? You are able to save $8k within 6 months from your job and you don't count yourself lucky? See, I am not one to sugar coat things for you. I don't know who your friends are but if you have one, they should tell you that you are balling? How many people in America can save up to $2000 in a year? If you have anyone telling you that you are useless in America, please delete that person's contact from your phone and block him or her for life.

That being said, you are not the first and you won't be the last to drop from school - that is not the end of life. You asked for help in writing a reinstatement letter from NL and didn't find help and you decided not to pursue it because of indecision and wrong advices? Who are those advisers? Mind sharing what they advised you to do? It appears to me that you caused this yourself.

For you to be able to compose on Nairaland, I put it to you that you can still think and know what is going on with your life. The issue with you is anxiety and fear of the unknown. Learn to control yourself and take your mind off it. I also see that you have refused to tell us your relationship with your 4 siblings in America, what have they done to help? Are they all tired of you? They all told you to go back to Nigeria? Anyway, here are the options you have presently;

- Do everything within your power to keep your present job

- Go and marry a U.S citizen who you truly love and start a family

- Wait for your pending immigration filings to be approved

Good luck

.
OjaP is it possible for us to communicate offline. I have a lot of pressing questions please.

Mr Lucas, I don't know much about your story and I care less as it is sorry ..let me go straight to my point, going back to naija is not an option,so Mr man forget that shit. Listen to some good advice here and get back to track. Ojap and zee just gave you some good hints, you aren't the first student to be out of status, I know one or two peeps who have been in your shoes and there are already in status..calm down, head up,look straight, what do you see?Bright future like Amber light. All the best man!I have not even saved any dime in this country and I dey Para each day as I dey spend my hard earned money I came to this country with.Lol.The fear of uncle Sam is real.

Please, i need your constructive advice.

I'm a tech savvy guy, never been tutored but somehow catch up on tech. I intend changing to computer science from chemical engineering(fantastic field) for masters.

Here is the thing; considering both fields are dissimilar, is that a red flag for the VO?

GPA:3.01/4.00 (WES unofficial)
GRE: In a couple of days
TOEFL: Next Month

I have been discouraged from changing field on grounds on visa & funding.

Schools I've contacted about MS in Computer Science(no specialization yet).
University of Texas—Austin
University of Massachusetts—Amherst
Brigham Young University, Provo, UT
University of Houston

UH seem to have the better option. Here is an extract from the mail with the CS grad cord (she was so blunt).

We will not consider a graduate application if it does not include AT LEAST Object-oriented programming, Data Structures and the maths. . It is considered that until you have taken OOP and data structures, you do not know if you are suited to computer science.
If you want to apply to UH to take prerequisites; You will be an undergraduate student with a degree, known as ‘Postbaccalaureate’ or PB. (PB is 8- 12 month).
If you want to take prerequisites at a Texas Community College, at UH-Downtown, UH-Clear Lake, and UH-Victoria, we accept prerequisites taken at any accredited college.

Every School i have contacted seem to be directly or indirectly hinting at have the pre-requisites down first before consideration.
So if i manage to secure admission directly without these pre-requisites i could end up having my 1st year solely on pre-requites and foundation courses at full cost as no one is will to fund someone still testing the waters.

Someone advised I secure an admit in chemical Engineering solely for the VO, when i get there I request for transfer of my I-20 to a CC to obtain these pre-requisites. After which I could have more options shooting for top schools and possible secure some level of assistantship, as a year in the school system will expose me to more ways to secure funding.
I'm skeptical of plying this route due to stories for the school insisting on having a semester with them before transferring of out-rightly terminating the I-20.

How will you advise i go about it?

Thanks to everyone that answered my question about the national youth service. Well am here again with my questions oooo. I'll soon be a graduate of chemistry and am hoping to do my MSc in either chemical engineering or pharmaceutical science. When I checked out some universities,i was kinda happy cause i can do my Msc in those two fields I mentioned with my B.tech chemistry but some courses were listed as program requirements which I don't understand. ...please help...
Also, which is more advisable to do thesis option or non thesis option?
Thanks..
Cc lagosismyhome walspring texrem imperiouxx oludare01

As you've been told, required courses are program core courses like those cores you took during your B.Tech. As per thesis and non thesis, you can't be wrong with thesis option. Thesis would help you if you're considering furthering studies, changing field to one that's experience oriented or even to show your future employer your maturity and work ethic. It's a plus on your credential when you have some research experience of any kind. Some science programs only admit students with research experience for higher degree. I'm sure you want to make use of all options available to you now because you never know tomorrow.

And as for prospective students, this is the year of Trump which will make US policy fluid and in a state of flux at least for the next 4 yrs. There is at least going to be a potential crackdown on H-1B visas for encroaching on 'American jobs'. This has become a really clannish place.
Again build yourself, toughen up before coming here. A lizard in Nigeria will not turn to an alligator in North Dakota and you will not start pissing rosewater when you get here. If you are coming in for economics and you have no solid quantitative background be prepared to work thrice as hard or boy you are in for one hell of a ride.
I It has been up and down here, I have been robbed, I have been towed in front of a NLders apartment (cost me $300 give a few dollars the week a few bills were due) and I have been in an accident (20th Nov) which was ruled by my insurance company as a 50/50 even though I was hit from the back, I'm getting a lawyer and disputing that verdict and going for therapy as I have been unable to walk winksince the accident.

Did you study economics?
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 10 by imperiouxx4: 2:11pm On Dec 09, 2016
@ LUCAS99

I've met lot of people from here (nl) that initially came to US as students but immediately registered their names as undocumented immigrants from the day 1. They are walking on the street happy even though they have their predicament. No one told you reinstatement happens within short time or your school won't get pissed at you. You will definitely find another schools that will take you after the reinstatement, but now you started acting funny.

The part that bemused me is the psychosis, depression and suicidal behaviors....... what a bad combination on your medical record (though protected by hipaa). Hey you're from Nigeria, you were born and raised to be tough. You should have told them your problem is not psychosis but paper related. They should have given you paper and see your problems gone within the next minute.

Your situation shouldn't have led you to "Risperdal" of all medications. I would believe you don't have family history of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, correct me if I'm wrong. Being on long term Risperdal not only messes with your brain but also your hormones, don't be surprised if you have a erectile dysfunction (you're just looking a girl in the face) or gynecomastia (you show up one day with succulent b.reasts).

Let me know when you're online, I will refer you to my wife who's an extern psychiatrist in psychiatry hospital. As a student, she has handled some cases of psychosis, depression and suicidal, I believe she would be able to counsel you just for favor.

Best!

Greetings everyone,

Have been a silent follower of this thread for about seven months and i promised myself to post transcript when i have my visa approved. A day without reading people's transcript and contribution is like missing an episode of a series movie. I read all the way from part four till date and gained immensely from everyone's contribution.

I never envisaged the nature of the interview i had today. It was pure grace favor, luck and mercies of God that worked for me today. Over- preparation worry me no be small because have been developing transcript for over 4 months and kept editing every now and then.

Interview went thus:

VO: Good morning, passport and I-20
Me: Good Ma'am
VO: Tell me your study plan
ME: I am going to; VO cuts, she dint even allow me say anything before interrupting
VO: What do you
ME: I work with; VO cuts again, she dint let me complete my sentence.
VO: Do you have any certificate and what did you study in your undergraduate
ME: I studied Business Administration and am also a graduate member of NIM
VO: Started typing for ages. She barely looked at my face all through the interview process. Your visa has been approved and i was given a pick letter.

No document was asked.

Special thanks to a good friend and brother Halidaf for ginger and info, Uncle Ope Salami, SirRiddy for the SEVIS fee and Warriboy. You all are favored by God's grace.
I tap in to this grace in Jesus' name
