bigiyaro:I advise you stick to wood shavings. I will write the difference between them later. Use any ivermectin based drug for them and follow the dosage accordingly. I used 4 ml for 6 litres of water for two days |

bigiyaro:Sand vs Wood Shavings Advantages of sand 1. can be used for a long time before changing the litter especially if the faeces from the chicken is not watery. I had to change my own after a week because i had occasionally watery droppings from the chicks. This watery droppings will sink into the sand and cannot be removed like the normal solid waste. This will make the sand to start stinking after some days. 2. It does not contaminate the water and food in the chicken house. 3. Sand can be washed and disinfected using solutions like Izal, etc. 4. The droppings are scopped using a siever or trowel. If the droppings are normal, the sand can be used for up to 6 months before changing. Disadvantages of Sand 1. Its too heavy |

Day 61 Feed update Rico Gado has been scarce in my area so had to go for hybrid grower feed. Have been feeding them onions and garlic all through the week. I see plenty of wormlike whitish substance in their poo. |

EMMAACHILE: Hi, Achile. Where can I locate feed store and vet shop in Lokoja? I want to switch to vital feed from top-feed because of the high price of the later and I believe its (vital feed) is cheaper compared to top-feed. |

Hi Emmaachile, I have been following your post for a while now and will like to encourage you. I rear noilers too but eat/sold off some of the cocks. They actually taste good and also fetched considerable amount of money( so;d the cocks at N2,000/bird @ 16 weeks. I kept all the hens for egg production and to my surprise i get 100% (yes 100%) hen day production. No need for debeaking but there exist brooding tendencies.Plan to go commercial next year. I think they are the next big thing in poultry production considering the rising cost of feed. All the best. 2 Likes 1 Share |

@ emmaachile, any difference between broiler grower mash and grower mash for birds that are not broilers? This top-feed, do they write on the sack which birds own? I bought grower and what was written on it is '' grower mash''. Why I am asking is that the last one I bought, the maize was white while this one I just bought is red which is usually used. |
Re: My Noiler Farm Experience (hybrid Of Broiler + Cockerel) by Nobody: 6:58pm On Dec 30, 2016 |
IdisuleOurOwn:There is usually only one grower feed. It's the same for all birds but broilers don't usually use grower here. How many weeks are they? |

Re: My Noiler Farm Experience (hybrid Of Broiler + Cockerel) by Nobody: 8:37pm On Dec 30, 2016 |
IdisuleOurOwn: Ok. If i were you, i will feed them broiler finisher as the grower will lead to reduction in weight except if you are raising them for personal consumption. |
Re: My Noiler Farm Experience (hybrid Of Broiler + Cockerel) by IdisuleOurOwn(m): 8:46pm On Dec 30, 2016 |

They don't need the layer mash. Mine are on Grower mash and they're doing 98% production. EMMAACHILE: 1 Like 1 Share |

Turks:How many weeks? Overtime you will have to use layer mash |
Re: My Noiler Farm Experience (hybrid Of Broiler + Cockerel) by Turks: 8:55am On Dec 31, 2016 |
Naah. Don't intend to use layers mash. They're doing very well on growers mash. They're just 28weeks old, they commenced lay at 19weeks and I've been picking 5-8 eggs every day. There just 15 birds left cos I sold some off for Christmas. They're my experiment and I intend to push them to the limit hence my resolve not to give them layers mash. EMMAACHILE: |
