PAC is actually a corporation set up by the Pakistani Airforce.
'On its own',... I meant an actual airforce that set up its own corp. and then actively went out to produce a fighter jet of its own in collaboration with China of course.
No other country's airforce, correct me if wrong went on to establish a company that went on to produce an aircraft.

if this present government comes to power again , u will see it within 2 years or so being available for export , the defence PSUs r struggling to meet the current domestic order the lazy jackasses .

first priority will be domestic market , india is short of fire power presently.

anyways i can confirm India was in talks with some African countries for LCH , they want it in the simple form with surface effect weapons only , with high operational availability plus with the option to upgrade / refit /tweak as deemed fit by them later on in the future with india providing necessary consultancy etc .

1-2 teams held closed room talks but rest i dont know.

Russia, India Discuss FGFA Advanced Fighter, Su-30MKI Upgrade New Delhi (Sputnik) — India and Russia are expected to sign the detailed design and development contract of Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) in the next two to three months. This will enable Moscow to retain its position as the prime supplier of Indian Air Force's fighting strength. India has signaled that negotiations on R& are almost final except for some issues related to rights over export to third countries. "Secondary round i.e. R & D round is almost finalized except some issues related to the future of the aircraft. Because, when R& phase will get over and you are not able to produce and sell, what is the point in developing? Whether we will have right to produce because there will be some IPRs over which Russia will have claimed. All these important aspects are being clarified properly," says Manohar Parrikar, India's Defense Minister in New Delhi. Sources told Sputnik that a Russian delegation is arriving in New Delhi in the next few weeks to discuss all these aspects.

The Indian government feels that before embarking on commercial production, every issue needs to be sorted out such as the aircraft's stealth capabilities or the right to export right. Parrikar said two to three months does not hold much importance for the project with a time frame of 10-15 years. Currently, both the countries are not discussing the number of aircraft to be produced under the project. "We are trying to ascertain quantum of stealth, transfer of technology and whether we will be able to manufacture and sell jointly. All these aspects are being discussed because when we invest huge money ($5-6 billion) you are commercially not only producing for ourselves but considering exports as well. India Announces New Fighter Jets to Be Produced Domestically The Russian-Indian FGFA has stealth capabilities and is based on the Russian T-50 prototype jet. The FGFA project came about following the signing of a Russian-Indian cooperation agreement on October 18, 2007. Both the countries signed the primary contract in December 2010. India has spent $242 million on the primary contract. The Indian Air Force has proposed building an indigenous FGFA called the Advanced Medium Combat Stealth Aircraft (AMCSA), but it still remains at the conceptual stage. Sweden's SAAB has offered to help in the development of AMCSA but the Indian establishment is yet to respond. Meanwhile, China exhibited its fifth generation stealth fighter aircraft J-20 in November this year. The J-20 is expected to provide long range, hard-to-detect strike capacity to the PLA Air Force from 2018 onwards.

As Boeing Defense revives its campaign for the F/A-18 Super Hornet in India, a slide in its presentation today on the pitch stands out significant and adds telling detail to an aspect of the effort that has remained relatively unknown — how India’s proposed Make In India Fighter programme ties in with the country’s concept fifth generation development AMCA platform. We now know that Boeing has a very specific plan, with three major thrusts:

First, as the slide most visibly suggests, Boeing proposes that the manufacturing facility and supply eco-system that it builds up for the F/A-18 in India in the event it is chosen, could be used to produce the AMCA. The existing facility could be leveraged, precluding the need for a greenfield setup elsewhere.Finally, there is the suggestion that Boeing could be available to help along the AMCA programme directly as a partner or consultant in such a way that it makes the Block 2 Super Hornet -> Advanced Super Hornet -> AMCA flow more seamlessly from a development-to-manufacturing perspective.

many people dont realize this fact that

military industrial complex of a country is a reflection of its civilian industrial complex ,

any country whose civilian industrial capabilities is on the rise will have a positive effect on the military industrial capability


look at china , its defense products r cheap because its civilian industrial complex is tied to its military industrial complex (one of the factors though in relation to china other factors r there such as china being a security state etc etc ).

it is prohibitively costly to set up infrastructure for producing weapons only, however if the said infrastructure is geared towards manufacturing both civilian and military products then economics of scale comes into play and reduces cost by a very big margin.

this can be achieved by the private industry per se with government industries involved in R & D and hand holding role only.
the moment government gets involved in arms manufacturing though govt. established industries , the end users becomes a captive player unable to have any say in the quality and requirements etc etc (most of the times)


India has the privilege of 2 nuclear armed adversaries....... one very unpredictable a loose cannonball of sorts who threatens nuclear war every month , and another one which eclipses India in almost every sphere.

so u got to be prepared and there is the matter of generating jobs and revenue also with exports as the icing , infact defence exports have quadrupled in the last 2 years while the aim is to increase it to 2 billion dollars per annum in the next 2-3 years.

Indian civilian industries capabilities r on the rise and therefor in recent years we see the results and present govt policy of ending undue preferring to public sector arms companies has led to increase in competition and rise of Indian private sector defence companies.

simply stated common people of india r not aware that there is something called defence sector in india and that money can be made out of it . and most importantly where there is money to be made........... there are Indians

present govt has changed the mindset and cleaned up a lot of the rubbish red tape plus handled corruption very harshly . kudos to them for this .
