UltraLeslie: Your long post offered nothing but a diatribe, mine understood the problems of civilian - military relationships going back to colonial times. I offered clues re PTSD and the need for retraining. The issue of control of forces. It's easy to rant. Everyone does it and this is why nothing changes in this country. Everyone is shouting. If people would avoid polarity zero sum arguments we might be able to move this country forward. Spilling textbook lessons that fail to even try to understand the root of the problem is shouting to yourself. Do you know how many recruits in the U.K have died from " hazing" from their own commanders? Do you know how many women and children were killed in Iraq by well trained western forces? Do you know which country has the highest rate of civilian deaths traceable to their direct action? It isn't Nigeria. Ask any soldier from any regiment in the world and he will tell you how he feels and what he wants to do when any of his friends fall at the hands of anyone. The difference is that sophisticated countries know how to rotate battle weary troops because they measure field stress. Not because these soldiers have higher moral standards. There are deep problems that need addressing and you threw bleeding heart solutions that achieve nothing. Yes I am proud to have helped trauma training for both civilians and military in combat/ crisis/situations. I tried to provide context but you sat on your high horse having never watched someone bleed out or have to tell someone their spouse isn't coming home. No one joins the army to kill people and no one who kills people walks away emotionally whole. Ortom as governor took an action as governor that has calmed down the situation and allowed time for cool off and people who have never seen war or its effects on everyone involved are here shouting. Because in nigeria every incident is hitched up to a " prior" accusation and counter accusation fly and nothing is ever resolved. The issue is never addressed. Then people go and build causes and raise money out of their inability to listen. Until people like you receive enough compassion to understand the mutuality of the damage caused by events like this we will not be able to halt the highly unnecessary carnage. |

greenpasture:You offered Cold-blooded murder by troops on civilians in the excuse they have the doctrine of reprisal. You're an ignorant liar. And a very dangerous person to even listen to. Any idiot of a soldier reading your putrid argument will justify murder. greenpasture: And you're moving the country forward with endorsing militarily murder on hapless civilians? Shame has really lost its essence. greenpasture:Abeg, show me where a soldier was killed in these countries you mentioned and they went on killing civilians in cold blood without even a pretence!!! Why are you citing examples where civilian targets were hit on error? Can't even believe I'm having this argument with you. greenpasture:stop promoting indiscipline. Everyone ,not only soldiers, feels bad and horrible when they lost a loved one or friend. Holding a gun shouldn't turn them into unthinking monsters without discipline. Now you're trying to shift ground that advanced countries rotate thier soldiers to ease stress. Are you implicitly admitting the Nigerian army is ill-trained? That's a total shift from your position of having the right of reprisal. greenpasture: The rest of your post isn't worth a response. You should write to the NA to train their army to meet global standards and techniques. 1 Like |

UltraLeslie: You know nothing about this subject. I've heard people like you before. You should go back and read whether I justified reprisal or explained that it is ingrained in warfare. Israel for instance pulls down the houses of people that attack it's troops, even though their families know nothing about it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dahiya_doctrine Read what the British army did in Ireland with the IRA. Whether reprisals take place from 20,000 feet in the air, or with cruise missiles offshore ( you've obviously been deceived by the technology of targeted response) it is reprisal. handle.dtic.mil/100.2/ADA498017 I never justified it. I explained it as a reality of war. A civilian who kills a soldier with small arms is not regarded as a civilian. He is a terrorist or an enemy combatant. If he lives among civilians, there is a high likelihood that his ecosystem will be taken out or garrisoned. I didn't invent war/ conflict. I don't love it. Maybe you should Google military reprisal as doctrine. Or search Reprisal in international law. It's all there. Your reduction of everything I say to a black and white zero sum argument that mirrors your mental bias shows that this is an emotional argument for you. I can argue with cognitive bias not not with emotional ones. Especially arm chair ones. Come over to the North East, join medicin San frontiers as a volunteer for two weeks or just help at any of the IDP camps, understand conflict if you refuse to read about it. I won't reply your posts any longer. |

greenpasture: Please, don't ever cite Wikipedia as a source in any argument. I thought a "pro" like you would know this. Here's your post that necessitated my quoting you; you actually said "reprisal is army doctrine" in response to civilian relations! You really do have some nerve!!! greenpasture: Read what the British army did in Ireland with the IRA. Whether reprisals take place from 20,000 feet in the air, or with cruise missiles offshore ( you've obviously been deceived by the technology of targeted response) it is reprisal. handle.dtic.mil/100.2/ADA498017 [/quote] You're so far off the mark. Study the points under contention here. Reprisal on who? What were the circumstances? greenpasture:Is there war in Agatu? You have a militarised mindset which gravely limits your ability to grasp modern reality. A civilian who kills an army even with a grenade is a criminal that should be handled and investigated by the police. Mind you, the culprits aren't known and could well be regular criminals. greenpasture:Your way of thinking is isolated from reality and what obtains in the 21st century. So killing a soldier is an act of terrorism? . Enemy combatants are enemy soldiers or terrorists in an organised fashion. You should shut the fúck up and stop spewing ignorance. An unidentified man kills one soldier and soldiers reenforced and came back to the defenceless village firing into people...that is murder. It isn't done anywhere. Shut your cesspit of a mouth. Even defenceless enemy troops aren't fired on that is why you have prisoners of war. You're a murderous army bastard trying to justify murder and you shall get it in double fold. greenpasture:So you're now liking the situation in Agatu to the north east? I see where you got your mental block from. You're obviously a Nigerian soldier who specialises more in oil bunkery, crossing contraband goods onto this country and disobeying traffic laws.... There's a road I drive to and from everyday I go to work across a railway line in Enugu. If you follow the railway line, you will see so small quarter with so many Liberian girls undocumented brought into this country without documentation or papers by Nigeria army when she help quell the Liberian civil war. While her counterparts in the US that fought the civil war in Iraq were searched for contraband goods as low as cigars and liquor by American customs officers. That's the difference between obeying laws and feeling the law isn't meant for them. The Nigeria army sees the rules of engagement as any other rules they can disregard without consequences that's why they can kill innocent people because one soldier was killed by an unknown criminal. When they start killing your own, you will start quoting the rules... but then you will be just another unrealistic prick. |
