Sooo I figured I owe u my people, a more complete version of my BS...

Prt 1;

DH had become anxious to see LO immediately we hit the 36th week. He just couldn't fathom why the much talked about "9months", isn't simply 36weeks. And because he's heard from somewhere about the benefits of a good kpekus in late pregnancy, he lobbied for it every night, immediately we hit the 36th.

I had experienced terrible contractions one night (the first of the two nights I gave in to DH) during the 38th week, after the do, so much that I started doing everything afterwards, to avoid DH. Turning in early, taking a shite for longer than normal and stuff like that.

Anyway, it so happened that I decided to give DH a taste of the cookie again on the 40th week, and as expected, I started having those contractions again. I felt they will taper off like before tho, but no. They continued into the morning and made me decide to visit the hospital to complain about the latest trend of having painful "Braxton Hick's" contractions.

My landlady, who's a retired ER nurse was phoned by DH to come give me a quick check at daybreak and I heard her whispering to DH something about my pelvis being too tight.... Didn't care what that might mean as I'm used to her always seeing and suggesting the downsides of everything. Instead, I tried to concentrate on making it through every episode of the increasingly painful contractions as she asked if my water had broken or if I've seen the show. Told her no and what I suspected was happening, but she adviced that I carried my hospital bags along to the hospital anyway.

So out, I brought my bags, then made to take a quick shower, when i became aware of the wetness down below. Took a swipe with my left palm and there it was; the show. Mine was not catarrh-ish at all. It was blood and clear water, like spotting before or after menses. Had the shower and announced that I had indeed seen it and off we drove to the clinic.

Got to the hospital, went straight to the labour ward while DH sorted out my file at records and in that ward, was a nurse, just parambulating. I was confused by her. I greeted her, she responded, was looking at me, I was looking back at her and I just couldn't figure out what or how she wanted me to say what I wanted. I felt my very pregnant belly and the fact that I'm in the labour ward should say it all, but I guess she wanted to see some action. And some action she did see, as with the next contraction, I couldn't help but grab the table and got down on my knees. That was when she understood I did not come to snap picture and started calling her fellow nurses in another room to do that and this.

She had me lie on a bed, checked for dilation and asked how many kids I've had. Told her I'm a ftm and she said it's a wonder I was that calm at 4cm gone. She left me then and I heard my landlady asking if I was being sent back home and she was told I'd be staying.

There is no one description for Labour. It's every pain and no pain ever imagined. Everyone has to experience it firsthand and tell their own version. Keeping in mind that I've always been able to bear a good amount of pain, I'll just say - Labour is Braxton Hicks...only badass. It's BH contractions but with a fish hook tugging down on your uterus and jajaina for too long in every episode.

So there I was, oohing and ahhing but on the low. Didn't raise my voice at all and every once and again, the nurses would pass by and hail me, saying I really was calm for a first time mum. In the other cabin was a screaming woman who from the nurses' discussions, was a third time mum and had been there since the night before, but had only progressed to 4cm as well. She was plugged to a fetal monitor 'cos the whole ward could hear her babe's HB and a somewhat insensitive doc, was threatening to leave her 'cos she said his fingers were hurting her.

Hubby came in with my bags and began talking about the blood donation we didn't get to do and I asked him not to mention it to anybody just yet. I knew he was uncomfortable with my state and made to zap. I allowed him as I wasn't in a chitchat mood myself and asked him to say a prayer or two for me, while he's outside.

So there I was, fighting through each contraction, when a student doc carried his big book to me and started asking plenty jamb questions and penning down replies. How I got pregnant, DH's job, if I take alcohol and plenty stuff I can't remember now jare. Then a real professional came to check dilation, said I was 7cm gone, left for about an hour and returned to break my water. I stilled myself for the "breaking", only to be left wondering if he really did anything.

After the breaking tho, the pain kinda intensified...But I would say the real torture in labour (from my experience), is not directly from the pain per se, but the span which it lasts. Every episode might really not be more intense than the previous, but because of the shorter gaps between each, you're left with not enough time to catch your breath.

Prt2;

Last last, about an hour again, I began to feel little pushes amidst contractions. And all the nurses seemed to be doing was passing by and hailing me. I figured they might be taking advantage of my ability to hide pain and so I remembered some mamas here have said they felt like taking a shite, just when they were ready to go. So I called out to one of the nurses and told her that I felt like doing just that. She called to the their chief who came to check me for dilation and what do you know... She confirmed that I was indeed, fully dilated. Also asked me if I felt like urinating which I wasn't, but went on to drain my bladder anyway, which she said was full.

So all around me, they gathered. Student docs, real doc, nurses and all. The chief began to massage my perineum with olive oil as she encouraged me to push with each new contraction I felt. Na there wahala come de. My strength was intact, but I just wasn't getting it right. I would doooo ooo, nothing, they'd say I wasn't doing nada.
So they asked me to look at my navel and imagine I was taking a shite whenever I was having a contraction. So that was what I did and did oooooooooooooo. Shite eventually started to come, but baby was nowhere in sight.

They began to exchange glances I didn't understand. But then the nurse in charge said out loud to them that she didn't want to give me an episiotomy, because I'd done so well until then and that she believed I could still do it.
Omo, come see pushing....the fear of episiotomy and the joy of being at the mercy of a nurse who's not scissors-happy brought out the pusher in me . I just continued as I fit oo. And just when I thought I was going to break the push again, I saw the nurse pull out my baby and handed her to someone else.

Of cos, I noticed immediately that my baby was not crying.

nobody is perfect and nobody knows it all,it is from learning that we become better.I've always hated packing or seeing poop, whether adult or newborn which my mum is aware.so this day my 1 WK old baby pooped so much on this his favourite sleepsuit while I was trying to change his diaper albeit slowly as a first timer.OMG I screamed and dashed off to call my mum who refused to help out,her reason being she'd definitely go so who will do it for me then.
Lol,me I just removed the cloth into a nylon ,tied it and disposed it,mom went and brot it back and insisted I washed it off.
she was a saviour,3 mths later she left and the reality set in,I was now all alone with this little one that I'm supposed to know what each cry was meant for.
Ma'am Chanbaby, allow her help you,its only for a time, pls don't give in to PPD.just do whatever makes you happy and use those moments to rest .

Hello mamas, please is it advisable to take antibiotics like augmentin and ampiclox at 6weeks to treat infection. Thanks

wat kind of infection are u treating?

6 weeks is too delicate and sensitive for some drugs.

visit d hospital and see the doc for recommendation.

Thanks mama, I am not upset she is always carrying the baby but the fact that she does it and say I can't talk care of the child that my mum needs to take the child from me. Cos I'm slow at changing diaper in (her opinion) and I open the diaper to check if he poo or wee. That I'm supposed to put my hands in from the side of the diaper to check for poo.

Prt 3; (sorry this is coming a lil late, tryna post pics)

So there they were sha, doing whatever it was they were doing in another room while I watched and said a lil prayer for my babe. And as designed by God, baby Zara Akuchukwu, weighing 3.2kg cried out eventually at about 11a.m ish. Phewwww!

Then it came to stitching the tears and that student doc carried his mouth again and was telling the professional right in front of me, that he has been denying him opportunities to stitch people and that he wanted to start with me...Na hin I change am for am oo. Told him to shift very far from me because if the anaesthestic wears off, he would not like the other me. So the pro did the stitching and.....na so we waka oo.

We were discharged on saturday, 2days later, because they wanted to watch me and babe from the thursday I gave birth until friday, and then the docs disappeared on us on friday 'cos I heard they don't discharge on weekends (imagine!)...but eventually got discharged by a student doc on saturday, because I made a fuss.

Wanted to post pics of baby Zara and me buh NL no gree, so later later.

I wish every February mama still waddling, safe safe deliveries.

Thanks a lot. It was a doctor that recommended it. He didn't mention the type of infection. He just said it's infection since I told him that I had a white discharge without itching.

I am typing this with one hand, standing on my feet holding my 6weeks old baby.
Chanbaby please take all advice given and save the ones that is acceptable to you. Your sil is doing you a whole lot of favor as you get to rest and learn how to take care of your newborn.
I was left alone to face my lo at 12 days post partum. We were not even 2 weeks when my supposed retired mum decided to go chase money in her former workplace, from there she's gone to mourn her mum (my grandmum) that died earlier this month. My mil has not bothered to come for omugwo. She only showed face for naming and left same day. I bath my baby myself, do all the vigilante things and act like a zombie during the day. I almost gave in to depression because my lo was not sleeping at night and dh wasn't so helpful. Note that I have a 5years old and a 3 year old and both never acted like this new one as babies.
Let me give you a pointer on how to react when sil brings up her suggestions. ....say thank you and I will note it in future
When I was a ftm I got slapped in the hand for trying to put my finger in my own baby's mouth. I was trying to feel if the baby was hungry whereas The slapper claimed that I was going to give the baby cough. I felt humiliated cos it was my dh's grandma. Would I have felt different if it was my own grandma.; probably not
You mentioned you open diapers fully to check the status. ....you could get a shower of blessing using this method (sil is correct on the side check no homo kiss)
I do not agree with her sha on a mother not being able to take care of her own child. No matter how much minutes or hours you spend dressing your baby note that you are doing a great job which many wish to be in your shoes- this is my motivation wheneverI get low
Hang in there as this period will pass

ToyosiR present.
You can take up the captain ship. We need someone online regularly and can ginger.

Pweetiebabe pls calm down dear. Are you on any form of progesterone? Brown spotting in early pregnancies is normal in some cases. I would advise you take bed rest, drink plenty water, don't panic and send someone to get progesterone for you if you're not on it already.
I was on progesterone but still had a little bit of brown spotting in my first pregnancy.
Also call your doc or try to go in but pls don't stress.

Your baby is here to stay. Don't fear

Thank you very much !

what's the normal foetus weight pls?

Normal is relative, a full term newborn can be anything between 2.5kg to 5kg on the average. A few can even lie out of this range and all are classified as healthy.
note that full term is from 37 weeks. So a baby born at 41 weeks will be much bigger than if they were born at 37.

Genes also have a lot to play wih the weight of the baby as well as the health of the mother for example some ladies that develope gestational diabetes in pregancy may have bigger babies, but his will be monitored by your doctor to make sure the baby is well.
