With Naira debit card? I doubt but confirm from access bank. Only aware of Gtbank card limit of $100 per month online, no withdrawal.

Hello House,

Can I apply for a visa 6months before my intended travel date? Reason am considering applying 6months earlier is to give enough space for me to re apply in the event that am denied at the first interview. Thanks alot.

The Houston POE Experience....
Arrival Houston 19:30 (Emirates). There was no cue as we were the only flight that arrived at that time.

My Turn; approached the counter with a smile (As courtesy demands)
Me: Good day (Handing over our passports)
CBP: Good day (stretching his hands reaching out for our passports)
CBP: looking through our passports says "why are u here"
Me: For childbirth.
CBP: Scans my passport first, then his eye catches on a certain information on the computer screen and he seriously reads through it for about 10sec with his eye brows raised and then suddenly says "Ok place ur four right / left fingers on the scanner" (At this point, I knew it was over, I became more relaxed)
CBP: How long are u here for.
Me: Well, am here for two weeks just to ensure the wife is properlly settled and for our first Dr. appointment, then I'll leave to Nigeria for work to come back after two weeks to witness the delivery.
CBP: Turns to DW, "How about you?"
DW: 10 weeks.
CBP: says to my wife "place your right / left four fingers on the scanner please"
CBP: Picks up his stamp and preparing to stamp our passport says with a very calm voice "why did you choose the US?, why not UK, Europe, Germany etc." (At this point, he had started stamping 6 months on our passports while we were giving answers)
Me: We had thought deeply about the best life options we could give to our child in terms of future opportunities and having done my research, the US was my best option.

(Honestly we didn't bother using all the "better health care service" excuse / stories and all cuz I knew from the depth of my heart, the reason I was having my child in the US was for him to be a US citizen)

DW(added): He studied in the Uk so its enabled us to do our comparison properly on which country has better opportunities for our child.
CBP: With a smile says "I know that already......you were there for 4 years right?"
Me: Yes. (With great surprise on my face)
CBP: still holding the stamped passports says "how do u intend to cover the cost?"
Me: it will be "Self Pay". Presently all hospital bills have been paid in full prior to arrival and deposit made for doctor's appointment.
CBP: How much?
Me: 500 usd
CBP: 500 dollars? (with a surprise on his face) says "daz too little"
DW(cuts in): Datz actually just an initial deposit, his total cost is $3500 and we have the balance with us cash.
CBP: Oh sorry I didn't get that. Ok so how much is your total budget?
Me: $17,000
CBP: Turns to DW "just make sure u keep all receipts so as to avoid issues in future, these things are taken very seriously now"
DW: Thank you, I will.
CBP: is this address where you'll be staying? (Looking at the customs declaration form), did you have to pay for it?
Me: Yes we have paid for it in full as well.
CBP: I see that also. You paid last week. (At this point he wrote B2 on our passports)
Me: Yes I did. (With another surprise on my face)
CBP: Finally hands over the passports " Welcome and Enjoy your stay"

Having heard all the stories about Houston, we insisted that our case will be different....I was however well prepared and told myself I will give honest answers and be truthful about any questions asked.(I'm usually more confident and in control of a conversation when saying the truth)

I literally set my watch when I approached the counter.
It took 48secs from the time he collected our passports to when he stamped.
Other discussions took about another 40secs extra. Total time spent at POE was 1min and 28secs.
Everything was just so fast.....Never Travelled to the US before. Visa was strictly on medical.
Passed through Agric without any baggage search even if we declared we had food

Back to Nigeria now and DW still chilling in Houston awaiting arrival of the LO. Will join them later next month.

My advise is to be well prepared, say the truth, and never forget to involve GOD. Doesn't matter what POE. You'll b successful.....

Thanks to the wonderful e family, travelled at 36weeks, 24 hours in the air, no single questions asked at Poe, hubby, me, mum and toddler stamped for six months, delivered babies the next day, no jaundice, no need for incubator or transfusion. To God be the glory. Was presented a bill of $24k at Ben Taub. Pls does anyone know how I can go about the negotiate, learnt once I pay any amount out of it I can get an account statement, babies were also registered automatically for Medicaid and WIC, can I use the WIC card and Medicaid cos I don't want any issues with my visa renewal. Pls I need help on how to go about the WIC and Hosp bills negotiation.

WAIT..., WAIT..., shocked shocked

Delivered the next day.... shocked shocked and BABIES....

That is gangsta, I think you pushed your luck a bit though. What if the babies had decided to come during the journey? It might even be the stress of the journey that kickstarted labour the next day. Other mamas should pls be extremely careful with this kind of travel plans oo

By the way which airline carried multiple pregnancies at 36weeks...??

Hi everyone, Nice thread. Its a pity I found this thread after i have given birth in the US with little or no information. So here goes my story.

I was 8 months pregnant when I went to the embassy with my husband. We did not have the cash to pay for huopital bills and doctors bill upfront so we applied for a b1b2 but they did not know i was pregnant becos i was the type of pregnant woman that you wont know if i am pregnant unless you see my tummy and thanks to their counter at the embassy the did not see it. They did not ask and I did not mention. I gave birth with a very high bill about $12,000 in total in Baltimore. I did NOT get medicare or medicade (i dont know what it is called).

I gave birth in 2015, I was given a payment plan and I started paying monthly but for the past 5 -6 months i have not been able to meet up monthly payment as I lost my job and my husband office has not been consistent with salary. I have called the hospital several times to ask for a smaller payment plan as I cant meet the previous naymore but they keep saying that they cant help with a smaller fee.

With all these happenings, we both were fortunate to get a scholarship to study abroad with admission etc. We want to take it up because since things arent working here maybe things might be better for us abroad. What do you advise? I hope we have not blown away my chances at the embassy? shd we ignore the scholarship and hope for greener pastures and stay put and rough it in this tight season?

Thanks awaiting a prompt response from those with the right info.

To God be all the glory, we had my baby on the 23rd of December at Oakbend medical center with Dr E. The service was exceptional and nurses were very friendly.

We got all her documents ( birth certificate, blue passport, social securiy no and emergency travel certifcate) all in one week this January.

My host was very nice and sweet and was very helpful.

My profound gratitude goes to every kind contributor on this platform, the words of advice were invaluable.

May God bless us all.

Congrats on d arrival of ur babies.

To ur questions on ur bills, mamas who used ben Taub may come to ur rescue.

For medicaid and WIC, dats a no-go area, u cant claim u can afford to birth ur babies in US and become wards of d US govt. I ve also read dat u risk a denial of ur future visa application, having taken benefits from d govt. [/quote author=anonymousmum post=54657738]
