While not holding brief for Chon-Bale, I think the handler goofed as well especially his punctuation since his grouse on the tweet borders on punctuation. The last statement requires a full or partial termination after "Am" (a full stop or a comma) b4 the question "Okay?".

Even AS Hornby, the principal author of The Oxford Advanced Learners' Dictionary has handful of shortcomings in English, so nobody is perfect, especially in English language.
I share ur opinion of imperfection in English language, but the use of "am" in place of "I'm" is a recent development very common with the young generation. It's as a result of laziness and lack of standard in spoken and written English. In our days of letter-writing to girl friends, the strive for perfection in spoken and written English was real and the improvement was felt. To make it worse, these young ones don't take correction at all. In fact, they throw insults at u, wen u correct dem. Dis watsapp generation just weak me, abeg.

I actually agree with you, Sir....but you are not typing in a native language, are you? grin

I personally would make sure my kids speak our indigenous language ONLY at home. They can speak all the English they want outside.

I remember Obasanjo talking about how we actively discard our culture in favour of alien/ foreign cultures.

Why do you think you and I can't type in our native language?

I actually can't type well in my native language.

English being the lingua franca?

I actually can't type well in my native language.

The gradual extinction of our culture is sad and should be discouraged.

We didn't adopt English as our lingua franca. As European colonialists travel round the world enslaving people, part of their strategy was force the natives adopt the language of the occupying force. So, Britain forced her colonies to speak English. France forced her colonies to speak French, Spain Spanish, Portugal Portuguese, e.t.c. That's how we got English.

Intelligent countries with intelligent people; such as Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, has long dropped the language given them by the colonial master, and adopted their own native language as their lingua franca.

So, if we're unable to type in our native language, we're still slaves!!.

And so ? Your "correction" in the first paragraph is wrong while the insinuation in the second begs the issue.

I'm not in this game but when I saw "uses", I'm like, "what!".

LionDeLeo:

Structural, agreed, but he also goofed on same Uses of English.

Finally, the last line of the post you just quoted says nobody is perfect when it comes to the Uses of English and this is where the handler is getting it wrong.

Note, this is not in any way in support of graduates who can't piece up few words to make simple correct sentences cos you may use this post against me in future.

That one worse pass. Even people who happen to speak well mistake one for the other and vice-versa.

"I'm being told that.....".

"I have been told that..."

"It's being done" and "It's been done" are both correct when the bolded takes the "it has" form.

I really like the efcc handler but he goofed on this one. Afterall, he took the #keepthechange bait so why squash the guy? His use of sarcasm has been witty-funny so far but this one is a yab. I hope he doesn't go over the top next time as he risks losing his fan base and support.

Meanwhile, in addition to the fixed/corrected, the coined "engliologist" requires the addition of "s". grin

That is forgiveable. In twitter, you only have the benefits of 160 characters, so he was managing space and yet tried to make sense.
I bet you were ignorant of this.
