Used to be an avid novelist growing up. Would finish a 500 page tiny print in days. But see ehn, as the going got tough, I had to gradually drop fiction for reality.
Now I am continuously faced with tonnes of professional materials begging for attention.
So let's say I'm on sabbatical from novels till I retire from this hustling profession cheesy grin
This is just my experience too.

I lost count like ten years ago. My main weakness is being in a bookstore surrounded by books - I MUST BUY at least one!!!! I still have not read the ones I bought 5 years ago. And I still buy anytime I go to a bookstore cool

Counting the number of novels I have read is like trying to count the grains of sand on a seashore.

I hope to have an enviable home library soon.

Have lost count i am an avid read from an early age, i remember when i was writing jss3 resiting exam on mathematics instead of read my.notes i was busy reading a novel in the hall. Most of my collections are Hardley chase, Pacesetters, John Grisham etc. Till date i still read and buy.

I just finished a Hadley chase (Strictly for Cash) yesterday, the guy is a MASTER writer!! Gosh. Took about 2 weeks to read it but last few days I couldn't put it down till I finished. In my opinion, he beats Grisham and Sydney sheldon hands down.

Besides fiction, I've read a few other books. The guy on Channels book club always ends the programme saying "One great book can change your life" I totally agree with him.

Lol. I have no reason to lie. I finished John Grisham's The Odyssey File at age 9, and then on to James Hadley Chase and Agatha Christie! cheesy

Was it Odessa File by Fredrick Forsyth you are trying to write because i can't recall any Grisham book by that name

I have read up to a hundred novels, but I never used my money to buy any of them. Truth is that when I was a novel freak, I could boast of no kobo of my own.

Now if everyone is like me, writers will make reasonable money only from awards.

What about you?

Without bragging, I will say that I have read over 5000 novels since Jss1. It can even be more. I read at least a book a week. Sometimes as much as 3 books. I stay up nights to read novels. I read in the toilet and I read when eating. Terrible habit..lol but I am officially addicted to books.
I don't read love/romance books..
My latest book crush is Clive cussler but alas I have read all his books..
I have given so many books away,I remember I once had an agreement with a book seller to exchange 3 books for 1 new one. I went with 60 books and came back with 12 books...lol.
I don't read books online, I prefer hardback.
Anyone interested in having a couple of books can DM me. I will be in Lagos 1st or 2 nd week. Lagos residents only. Accra residents too. Anyone interested in getting free books, pls pm me.
I have made random friends cos I see them reading books.I can get down from a car/bus before my bus stop cos I saw a book stand.
Growing up ,mum used to beat me for reading novels too much!!! Lol.. I was always curled up reading. My bro was also addicted. I remember mum banging on the toilet door and screaming for whoever was in there to bring out that book..lol
I even took novels to church on Sunday and pretended I was reading the bible.
My first boyfriend bought me a mag and s novel..lol
I always create time to read a book.
I always buy my books.
Is there any ADDICTED bookie out there?

With the advent of ebooks, I don't buy anymore..

But before then, I own a handsome number of Agatha Christies, James Hardly Chases and John Grishams.. All bought between the prices of 300 and 500..

If you figure in the ebooks, Clive Cusslers, Michael Crichtons, Stephen Kings, Dan Browns, Ken Folletts and Dean Koontz are populat authors in my vast collection.

I downloaded all last two years and I'm yet to read all.. Lol
I think I should hive e books a try. What's the name of the app you use ?

I doubt if she knows that Grisham was a late 90s writer unlike Forsyth who is the real Day of the Jackal

Wow, that's strange that your mom didn't encourage your reading. Mine loved it because it meant I'd be home & not running the streets. We even went together to apply for a library card because they needed a parent's consent & signature. For a few years I stayed with my sister, she knew if I wasn't at home, I was at the library. Now she's trying to force her daughter to be just like how I was growing up. But it doesn't work that way. Either you love reading or you don't. You can't make a person want to read if that's not their thing. It's just how you're created, I guess. Good to know you're still passionate about it though smiley

I am not exaggerating but I have read more than 500 novels (romance, religious, crime, collections etc), I used to keep a log of books I had read but stopped in 2012...reading is so much fun...

grin

You could use goodreads to track them easy peasy.

I like to keep track of most of everything. Even movies I've seen or want to see at the cinema.

I used to buy paperback, then ebooks (specifically epub) happened in my life.

I need African writers ebook collections. I miss them. I only have a few of them amongst the myriads of ebooks I have. Preferably epub, though I can also read pdf.

Here's a view of some of them in my collection.
