Dear Meggito, my advise would be to wait on this and sort it out before you travel. you are about to stress yourself going the route youre about to. patience is a virtue, please exercise some. an application may be denied irrespective of where it is made. the onus is always on an applicant to return to his/her home country, not the country in which the application was made. best of luck

Hi Justmechika, sorry for your refusal. let me start with the actual meaning of travel history as a reason for refusal. as you said, yours is believed to be because you've not traveled before but don't be deceived, the US and Canada issue most first time travelers visas. however, this can also mean that the VO is not satisfied with the frequency of an applicant's travels or perhaps the locations visited.

that being said, there is a reason the Canadian government attaches a fee (though just 5CAD) to GCMS notes, its because it is very important. please don't rush. apply for these notes, pay the fee and when its out, read it carefully and address all issues it pointed out. in your next application, attach the GCMS notes to your letter of explanation (the VOs can easily access this note but being upfront with it goes a long way in showing how honest you are) and explain in detail how all the issue(s) raised have been addressed and why you cannot abandon your home country for anything.

in my opinion, the reason applicants get refused is that there is a lot of rush in applications and in some cases people try to be 'smart' with lies. with rush, mistakes then set in and there isnt enough explanation. in a visa application, nothing is definite. every applicant's situation differs. for example, people often say bulk deposit in statement of account leads straight to rejection. this is not necessarily true. personally, i have made bulk deposit two weeks before my application but in the SOA upload, i attached evidence of how the money came about and where it was liquidated from with dates and documents to genuinely show. this is the reason the US VOs are not interested in documents including statement of account because you can 'build' it and it then doesn't show the true financial circumstance of the applicant. it is not a true indication of whether an applicant will come back. always bear in mind that the US and Canada are more interested in intellects than how much money you have unlike the UK.
Best of luck

You can apply from the US. I thought someone has replied you already concerning this. There are CA embassies in the US and there's usually a higher chance of TRV approval all things being good.

Hi,
Sorry i'm just noticing your message now and so sorry you were rejected this time. sad

So i actually wrote a letter of explanation where i introduced myself properly, explained how important it is that i got the visa and it's impact to my family, then explained the reasons for my lack of travel history, i garnished the real reasons in my submission so it was easy to relate with and believe, you know even these people like packaging because want to believe that you'll return to Nigeria.

Anyway let me give you a quote of my explanation with regards to travel history:
"My travel History is quite short and straightforward because I have never traveled anywhere outside Nigeria before even though I have always wanted to travel the world but my really tight work schedule (as I am the principal officer, managing the Legal department of our Port Harcourt office) has always been challenging".

That is all. It might not be entirely the truth.... wink but it is good enough to get the result. grin
Re: Canada Visit/tourist Visa Discussion. by Chelda: 1:51pm On May 12, 2017
Yes, Yes, Yes...INTELLECT is the word because in my application + documents the packaging was very intellectual grin, i didn't really have a good account balance sef (just about 200k all together) but majorly the accounts had monthly or weekly transactions occurring in them. I printed 6months statement of 3 accounts so i gave them like 10 pages to read grin

Thanks ma'am, thing is I've already applied here since March 21, but I intend traveling to the US, question is, if I go to the US, and I get approved for a CA Visa, how do I send my passport to the embassy here.

good evening Jawa, i really appreciate your response. I already applied for my gcms notes and i got feedback few days ago and here is summary of what it says "after careful review of application and supporting documents offered, applicant seems to have limited economic and social ties as well as limited travels which could have demonstrated a history of having travelled and returned, as such im not satisfied dt app has suff ties and is well established in home country to compel to return at d end of stay" . I actually submitted d applicatn last year to visit my fiancee, app was rejected based on travel history and purpose of visit. We got married 2 saturdays ago and we'r not so sure now the route to take (visiting visa or spousal work permit) or how to go bout it. I would really appreciate all the help i can get.

Dear Justmechika, now it is much clearer what might have caused this.
a fiancee is a significant tie when he is with you back home but when visiting the fiancee is the primary reason for travel, it can be a little difficult because you can easily stay back. the GCMS notes clearly mentioned economic ties and thats probably what you need to work on.
not traveling is not a crime. in fact, it shows an applicant's satisfaction in his/her home country in some way. i have visited some east african countries and in Kenya for example, to my greatest surprise, despite being the regarded as the 'IT giant of Africa', Kenyans dont travel. the VFS offices in Nairobi are deserted.also, i once met a Liberian girl who told me that when a US VO asked her why she wanted to visit the US, she answered that all her friends had been to NYC and when they talk she just watches and she doesnt like it.her visa was granted. unfortunately, our country's image is dented and that leaves us with even a greater burden to overcome in impressing a VO.
my take is, should you wish to apply for a visit visa again, write a letter of explanation specifically pointing out reasons for the refusals as stated in the GCMS notes(attach them). now, you even have a heavier burden of proof because you're married and i assume your other half is in Canada. you have to look inwards and ask yourself if you feel you will return home. this is often accessed by the VOs by evaluating your academic qualifications and your work experience. if they're in line, it goes a long way to show you're building something. tell the VO how you're aware you cant work on a visit visa and how you cant leave your career and dreams(tell him/her what it is and how big it is) here in nigeria and go become and illegal immigrant in a new land by overstaying or disobeying visa rules. tell the VO about the family you have here that you cannot abandon, the friends you've had for years, the properties you have(if any) and any concrete evidence of what holds you down in Nigeria. your letter of explanation is your way out. draft it in segments and in details, back it up with documents and pray you get a considerate VO. please be careful to not write for pity but to establish yourself and ties to Nigeria.
Alternatively, you can apply as a couple and visit somewhere else together( perhaps as honeymoon if resources are readily available) and return before you make your next application, that will go a long way but please don't make unnecessary trips like just going to ghana by road to 'disvirgin' your passport. it carries no weight.
Best of luck

Dear dgoodrich101, please be informed that a VO is trained to link an applicants tie to his/her home country when adjudicating a case. if you're on vacation in the US on a B1b2 visa, considering this is a non-immigrant Visa, what ties do you have there? personally, the only reason i think someone might consider taking this route is perhaps to save time as a decision may be made sooner. please be careful not to waste your money as people who are issued via this route probably would have been issued in Nigeria as well. i have earlier made an example here of a friend who has valid US visas with his family, visited twice and returned before making a TRV application.it was refused.

secondly, you might want to consider reading what 'de facto resident' means as regards US CBP and Canada's CBSA. crossing from canada to the US and vice versa can be tricky sometimes because once the CBP or CBSA randomly asks for a return ticket to your home country and you cant show it, that's a huge problem no matter how much money you have with you. whenever you're not applying from your home country, you have a greater burden to overcome.

however, if you're a traveler that explores, like myself, you might want to know that you can cross into mexico with your valid US visa once stamped into the US. so if you're in a southern state like Texas and co, you can arrange a not-so-expensive trip to mexico for a day or two and have some fun.
Best of Luck

Hi. Im not sure of your point but remember these two countries are very cooperative. If you're denied a visa in any country and the grounds for denial have not been satisfied, another can easily deny based on those grounds.
A friend at work has valid US visas with his family of four, visited twice, applied for a canadian TRV but it was refused. He's still awaiting GCMS notes.
Remember that the US VOs are not even interested in how much you make ( people with less than 100k salaries get visas daily) they depend on the psychological evaluation from answers to their questions in the interview window to predict if an applicant will return.
Whether ever denied or not, the onus is ever on the applicant to prove he'll return home.
You can also have strong ties and not enough money. You cant have NGN500k as balance and plan to go on a vacation that'll cost you over $1500 for 5days assuming you're heading to a cheap city. Its a wholistic approach.

You got my point wrongly. Read my post again. Now read below again.

MY POINT IS: ''Whether you have traveled outside your home country before or not, if you have been refused a US visit visa before it does not mean Canada will also refuse you visit visa. The same thing applies to Canada. If you have been refused Canadian visa before it does not mean US will refuse you visa. As long as VO is satisfied with your application your visa will be approved. Many people have been refused US visa and got Canada visa while many have been refused Canada and still got US visa. There no doubt in this. That is my point. Is that simple?

Hi emeify, im not sure canada has those subcategories like the US. You might have to apply for a visit visa as well for the minor. Super visa would have done the job because the holder can stay for up to 2years but it is only for parents or grand parents. As to whether it can be processed in time or not, please refer to the timelines of peoples updates on this forum. Best of luck

Good day to you all, pls am a novice when it come to traveling abroad stuff. Soon I will be leaving Nigeria for Canada with a visitors visa.
My question is, is compulsory to have some certain of money with me? i.e. what is the minimum amount of momey I must have with me upon arrival?
Is it even a must to have money with me on arrival ?
Does the immigration officers normally ask for this upon arrival?

Pls I need answer base of experience pls.
Thanks,

Hi stjsd, we were all novices on our first trip. However, not having enough money is one of the fastest ways a visitor can be repatriated. How would you leave your home country to a land over 10000km half way across the world and plan not to have money with you?
How much money do you have with you? And how long are you staying? Are typical border patrol questions and this will help an immigration officer make a quick estimate of whether you have enough money or not especially if you're a first time visitor and dont have a host or relative you're visiting. But be careful, dont say you have no one in your application and show up at border and say you do. These visas are MRVs hence the border agents can easily see the circumstances considered by the VO before issuing the visa. Your story has to always be the same thats why you should always be honest. The last thing you want to hear from an immigration officer is 'please step aside sir/maam', it means 'your problems begin now'.
How much money is expected of you would greatly depend on what province you're staying and for how long. Budget $100 per day and thats USD and have it handy not in a palastic. Best of luck.

Hi Graceee, patience might be all you need. Once you've paid, you're entitled to this letter because your application is considered incomplete without biometrics unless the applicant is underaged or overaged. Please be patient and try logging on after 48hrs to check the portal if no email notification is still received.
