Hello Madame, why must you always attach tribal sentiments issues.

You people are part of this country's problem.
Do you really want to be addressed as a tribal bigot?
If yes, Shame on you

Defending Evans is no big deal

See this small boy, oh sorry you were Still a baby when Festus Keyamo took up Fryo's case in 2001. That particular case made him today. So watch before you leap

I agree with you but the truth his that his children will be ridiculed by his mates and even some teachers in their schools. His wife will be subjected to taunting by a section of the society. It is not about fairness, it is about reality. Reality about society where many are governed by different kinds of emotion. It is why we must think through our actions before we commits ourselves to them. If we can stand the public ridicule, are we willing to take our family through same? Because what we choose to suffer as an individual, we often carry our family through the same suffering. Call it suffering in solidarity
Even though i understand your reasoning, the Law doesnt. Just imagine a case where the accused could have been falsely accused or implicated. If all lawyers decide to leave him to his own since he has been judged by the media, will justice be served?

Illiteracy is one of the biggest problems facing Nigeria as a nation and if we don't deal with it properly and urgently, we'd regret it. In law, morality is dead. Abdul muttalab was caught trying to blow up a plane and despite the strong evidences against him, he was still given an attorney to defend him. The reason for giving him an attorney, isn't to necessarily prove that he didn't commit the crime, but his lawyer could argue for a lesser punishment... No matter the crime you commit, as far as the law is concerned, you are entitled to a defence attorney to defend you. There's no big deal in what the lawyer is doing.

well some people have to be beheaded and somebody has to do the beheading. its a symbolic biblical gesture meaning I have taken over your mind and you are now a clone .

matthew 14 6 On Herod’s birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for the guests and pleased Herod so much 7 that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked. 8 Prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.”

Look at these ignorant igbos on nairaland. They were calling for the release of Evans but now that he has hired a Yoruba man as his lawyer, they begin to see how wrong it is.

This is why they remain spectators in Nigerian politics. A people driven by hate cannot see beyond their noses and cannot be trusted to lead a nation. It is often a grave mistake to help Biafrans.

GEJ must regret giving them strategic political positions because they ruined him and his administration with their criminal tendencies.
The one's who fall into that category are severely driven by hate. As you've said rightly, it acts as a fog which thus prevents them from seeing beyond their nose.

Reality becomes a lie and anything against their belief becomes a conspiracy

There's no justification to take up a matter in which the culprit has already confessed. You asked the journalist if he can not be defended when people have already condemned him. But Mr lawyer, this is no allegation against someone. Evans has already confessed with his own mouth and has taken police to places he use to detain his victims. Every kobo Evans has is money collected as ransom for crime and he pays ur charges from that money. Isn't it sad that u collect such money from him, eat with it and without conscience?? U need God

I didn't deride the man for taking up the cause, it is commendable. My only pointer is: unpopular decision comes with its unsavoury consequences to you and those around you. That is a reality.

As a lawyer, he is only doing his job, so stop this cos of the money thing, if he wasn't that good, they won't give him the case to handle, moreover do you expect him to work without being paid?

You are defending him because you hope to get a chunk of the billions he collected as ransom. By doing this, you encourage more potential kidnappers and I pray you fall a victim of kidnappers one day

It is only because of the illiteracy and lack of logic that has ruined our nation.

As an aside tho, you have a valid point.

Re: Olukoya Ogungbeje: "Why I Am Defending Evans, The Kidnapper" — Lagos Lawyer by Teespice(f): 11:49am On Jul 01, 2017
choi.

there is a huge difference between law and morality.

Granted, Evans has committed heinous crimes. our constitution by virtue of section 36 provides that he is entitled to legal representation, in the eyes of the law, he's innocent until proven otherwise.

the rules of professional conduct also provides that a legal practitioner should represent his client within the bounds of the law. that he is his lawyer doesn't mean he will be after acquittal at all cost, afterall the police has a major part to play in investigation, the prosecution also in being diligent. once these two factors are achieved, there is no way he won't be convicted.

all that is being sought is justice, which is why it is said that prosecution as well as defence should not be after conviction or acquittal at all cost but justice.

even kabiru sokoto, the man who committed the twin bombings at madalla also had legal representation. wasn't he convicted at last?

Defending Evans is no big deal

Please remind me, what the work of a lawyer is again? see! you sir, are just a tribalistic bigot. you complain that a lawyer is defending his client (AKA the kidnapper of business men) but you seriously kept mum when another not only defended but also won a case for saraki (AKA The kidnapper of our country's treasury) thereby making him 4.6billion Naira richer. So because he is a Yoruba man he can't do his job without coming under fire right? Mmadu puta nihu oha n' eze ona ekwugheri.

Even with his confessions, do you know he has to be represented in court? And he also needs a lawyer to even plead guilty, as you cant walk into a court and plead guilty for yourself. This isnt a military court martial.

If you can transfer the guilt of money he's collecting from the kidnapper to him despite it being for his services. Will you transfer the guilt to car sellers, he has patronised? Food vendors he has bought from? Landlords he has rented from? Churches he has donated to? Possible humanitarian societies he has offered money?

Where would you stop?

He is a lawyer. He took an oath to defend his client and he is doing his job and paid for it. Evans, despite a criminal has the right to legal representation and he has gotten one. Whats the big deal about?

I blame the media though who are trying to exploit the moral high horse of an average Nigerian.

Morality is antithetical to law. No polemics! But any law devoid of morality is questionable! Oga lawyer, no worry. Just collect your obnoxious share of the blood money.
