If this story is true then Udom wouldn't be doing well at all. So this is how they want to loot the N10 billion from the Paris Club refund?! A state where the ordinary guy in the street is complaining bitterly on how things are rough...jobless graduates everywhere and you want to justify spending N10 bill on a structure in Lag which is obviously has no economic value to the state. What happened to building industries? Even putting that sort of cheddar in building a seaport would have been more useful because of the scale of employment it would create for Akwa Ibomites in particular and Nigerians in general I won't even talk about the revenue it would generate for the state. This is a pure case of misplaced priorities...Whom the gods would destroy they first make mad...the voice of the people is the voice of reason. Govt should re-assess this decision if at all it is true. 4 Likes |

There is more to that building than the real need for it. Without contract like this, there are no avenues for politicians to loot public funds in large sum. Contract like this creates the needed avenue to syphon public funds. It's the same thing Akpabio did with the Uyo stadium contract. Contractors handling the Uyo stadium work could openly attest to my claims. Akpabio used the construction of the stadium to syphon over N3billion naira alone not to talk of his subordinates that each must go home with appreciable sum at the end of the day. Udom Emmanuel and in general other conniving to go ahead with this contract know what they are doing. 3 Likes |

Fifthcolumnist: Who said he has to build a 21 storey building in Akwa Ibom? The point is there is so much that can be done with almost 10 billion naira to stimulate the state economy. Whether in infrastructure, agriculture or industry. When will Nigerians quit their mad obsession with Lagos - a tiny strip of land that shouldn't have to be the beginning and end of everything in Nigeria? There are 35 other backward states that need development. |

If this macabre dance of shamelessness is the new, What moral justification does akwaibom government have seeking the bid that exxon Mobil and other Ioc should relocate their corporate headquarters back to the state from lagos? ? ? Isn't this tantamount to shooting your own foot? 9billion in the hands of a visionary workaholic will do wonders for akwaibomites, Many untapped and unexplored myriad of opportunities begging for attention, value chain addition, backward integration, tourism, education, science and technology, real estate, transportation, infrastructural upgrade, mdg, watersupply, entertainment, agriculture etc Seems from all indications lagos is the safe haven where most of our leaders invest in real estates, Most anti-corruption seizures are all over the posh and highbrow neighborhood in the state, Including Abuja, Lagos and Abuja real estate boom has proceeds of corruption from the failures we call leaders. If udom is bereft and limited of ideas of how to utilize the 9billion, he should make consultations for guidance, This is a no no "Udomonics" - economic philosophy of udom. 5 Likes |

Obi1kenobi: Nobody is obsessed with Lagos, rather by virtue of being the nations manufacturing, importation, administrative capital for so long, and its massive population everything continues to revolve around there even when the capital has left to Abuja. Other cities in Nigeria are catching up gradually but na small small But you were given 10bn how would u stimulate the economy of Akwa Ibom? |

What some of you guys dont understand is the system in the Nigger Area is corrupt. Who created Akwa Ibom state andfor what purpose? To divide and rule and LOOT from the people. Clearly the leaders and governors are not accountable to the people and dont care about them. Plus, they have their godfathers in Yoruba and Fulani area that "allow" them to be governor in Abia and Akwa Ibom and Delta and the likes..... So, Akwa Ibom people, say yes to referendum so we can purge our land of these vagabonds |

There is no justificstion for this stupidity. A state governor that is surposed to encouage and attract investment to his state is developing another governors state. If it were a akwaibom man buiding this as a private company, it will make sense. Not a state governnor using his state money to develope another state. Its a shame. Was it good administration of past governors made Lagos attractive today? what this man is simply saying is that Akwaibom state is not good for investment |

linearity: No matter how you evaluate the future economic earning of the project, how does this improve the real estate and infrastructural development in Akwa Ibom. It is gross stupidity to ever think of the project let alone awarding the contract. This clearly shows that the governor is not in tune with the desires of the good people of Akwa Ibom. Well this is our Nigeria where anything can happen. |

zoedew: I see your point of view. But due to the prevailing economic scenario on ground I would rather he invest that sum in building a seaport whose revenue generation would surpass the 21 storey building in the long run too. Akwa Ibom state would open up big time commercially because of the presence of a seaport.Think of the numerous jobs that would spring up as a result of a seaport. If at all the state needs a 21 storey building as a liaison office it could be in the far future after more important things have been kept in place. This is more like the case of putting the cart before the horse. The state doesn't need this fancy house at this point in time. The govt should focus on projects that will draw investors directly into the state as well as creating jobs for the unemployed in the process. When Udom came into power he's mantra was 'industrialization' as Akpabios' was 'transformation'. Building a liaison office of that magnitude in Lagos doesn't constitute that. It's clear to the blind to see that this govt is looking for a nice avenue to siphon money...maybe 2019 is already loading. 1 Like |
