HDI favours smaller countries, it doesn't mean a bigger country is not ahead of d smaller country.

HDI consists of life expectancy, mortality rate, literacy rate, per capita n so on.
for a country of 2m...all these indices will be favourable to them cos the statistics covers a very limited numbers of people.

for a country of let's say 100m, those indices may not be favourable to them cos it's exactly 50times of d smaller country.
let's assume d literacy rate in Botswana is 80%,it means that 1.6m are literates which is feasible, for a country of 100m to attain 80% literacy rate, at least 80m of d populace must be learned too which may be somehow tasking.
before a country of 100m can attain 80% literacy rate, a country of 2m will be at 100% which will still make it ahead in terms of literacy. the same with life expectancy and d rest which make up HDI.

Did this take into account the amount of resources (natural and human) as well as the size of land of the countries?

I don't know what u mean by the landmass of a country in relation to HDI. but u can learn more about inequality-adjusted human development index on ur own.

@Shervydman,you are wrong.I agree with kikuyu1.What he is saying is that with South Africa's headstart and endowment, they shouldn't be where they are.As at 1960 when Nigeria got independence,SA had been independent for 50years and with a lot of technology and wealth.Look at them today, they are not even the largest economy in Africa,it makes them angry. That's apparent by the angry rants of a number of them here. Now,look at South korea. As at 1960,South korea's per capita was $79,making it poorer than many African countries. They made the right policies and made use of Western friendship and a great educational surge.Today they have a gdp of over a trillion dollars and per capita of $29000.Meanwhile South Africa with its huge gold and diamond resources has a shameful gdp of less than$300bn and per capita of $7000.Shame

yeah, I didn't base my post on SA. I was only talking on d diff in HDI between a populated country and a densely populated one. HDI is very different from d wealth of a nation. the wealth of a nation can alter HDI but there'll still be diff in a populated and densely populated nation.

on the case of SA's wealth, they're still the wealthiest nation in Africa but also have one of the highest inequalities in d world(their wealth is not properly distributed). so, their case is kind of complicating. they truly have a head-start above all African nations. I don't want to talk more on SA, abeg. I don't want to cause another commotion.Mauritius and Seychelles having a bigger GDP per capita than SA doesn't make them wealthier than SA.

what about Egypt that was once a world power, where are they? its not only about SA, its an African thing.

Point out the lie in the post or simply say it is over your head like your equally illiterate boyfriend you quoted did by asking what I was saying.
