Going by your analogy, religious beliefs are mainly hocus pocus. You may be right, but in the same vein how can the gratitude of the poor be a source of blessing to anyone? Does their gratitude magically double your account in the bank or what?
If you dont believe in religious voodoo, I'm surprised you believe giving to the poor can bring blessings.
If you preach being charitable makes you feel good, perhaps even gives some a sense of purpose, yes you may be right. But to attach it to some blessings is same as what you've just stood against- tithes being a source of blessings.

I can't be glad giving my tithe to a church dat Im not comfortable with how the money got is spent and the humanitarian side of the church even to its own is in serious doubt. I don't do thing based on emotions or popularity appeal bt on belief. Many pastors i know talk about money more thAn the cbn governors during church service. They either cajole u or carry u on guilty trips just to drop biggest offerings in an almost desperate manner. Same churches are never there for their suffering members sadly. Their lack of empathy and genuine/practical care to their lacking and needy members made me reduce my church attendance cos I don't want to be caught up in religious gimmicks and routines and lose myself consciousness to Godlike attitude
