Errr...no. I "acknowledged" no such thing. I said the Pope charters Alitalia flights. Despite the Pope's limited traveling schedule, I'm sure booking the chartered flights are expensive at around $1,200 to $5000 an hour, but still nothing like the cost of Oyedepo's private jets ($30m for his Gulfstream V alone - not to mention the other 3 including 2 other Gulfstreams and a Learjet that together cost about $60m), plus maintenance ($700,000 to $1 milllion yearly for each), parking and demurrage and fueling and paying the flight crew. It's not remotely comparable.

And Oyakhilome exploiting legal loopholes says nothing about his ability to transfer legal ownership when he wants. None of us knows the legal details. But I'm talking specifically about Oyedepo here who has been grooming his son to take over the church like it's a personal family business. Now respond to ur post, firstly it reeks of ignorance. The Christian population in USA is 230,000,000 according to Wikipedia. 71% of Americans are Christians. The Christian population is more than the total population of the entire Nigerian population . Orthodox and Pentecostals tithe and America has the highest amount of Pentecostals. The number of churches who believe in tithing are more than those who dont.. The first American billionaire John Rockefeller was a tither and his family still remains one of the richest in the country till date. Let me help u with a list cos am sure u are unaware...

Who hasn’t heard of the Colgate Palmolive Company? Do you know that a tither found it? William Colgate left home when he was just a teenager. He felt that his father was too poor to keep him. With his only belongings tied in a bundle, he met an old canal boat captain. He confided to the captain that he was leaving home to lessen the financial burden on his parents. He explained to the old man that the only trade he knew was soap and candle making. I don't really care if someone commits 10% or more of his money to his pastor or plays Baba Ijebu with it or drinks and whores with it. It's a personal choice. The main targets of the ire against tithing are the con artists in the pulpit who appropriated an alien Jewish custom (that most practicing Jews don't even observe today since the destruction of the Levitical order) for their own greedy, venal ends. They are not entitled to anyone's tithe by the scriptures since they are neither Jews, nor disinherited Levites (same way neither Christ, nor the apostles and early christian leaders were entitled to collect a mandated tithe) and they add insult to their con and deception by living in the opulence reserved for corrupt politicians in an impoverished country. No man who rides private jets in the midst of poverty all around him is worthy to be a shepherd of the flock.

Who says I'm a Catholic? I'm agnostic, but I spoke from my experience growing up as a Catholic. It doesn't mean I'm one. Before I lost my faith, I had converted from Catholicism and I was a Pentecostal for years. There is much that is unbiblical about the Catholic church, but they are less driven by the avarice and materialism that has twisted the Nigerian Pentecostal movement.

I'd like to know what is so flamboyant about the Pope. Sure the modern Papacy inherited the legacy of over a millenium of Papal and Vatican excess when the church wielded immense power in European politics. But the modern Papacy has been reformed to live a life of moderation. Popes and cardinals and archbishops don't cruise around in private jets. They would get ripped apart if they did. In Western society, especially Europe, those who preside over tax-exempt non-profits and charity organisations (what churches are supposed to be) aren't expected to live opulently. This is why the likes of Oyedepo and Ashimolowo have got in trouble with the UK authorities before for violating the spirit of the law guiding the running of non-profits.
