Yes, a personnel was captured. The video is very embarrassing.
In this recent video too? Cos I was referring to a picture by some guy on Twitter (@SaladinAldronni) some days before this attack took place.

Terrible, and they have been making huge loses within this period, especially to ISWAP. In fact, several weapons, vehicles and a personnel was captured.

That NAF Spokesman angry angry

See, if you like buy a billion MRAP, it still remains useless against such fire power.

What happened to IFV /AFV? we are talking guns to where explosives are.

If there was some mortar fire from our troops, then we could have repelled the attack.

Contrary information Nigerians and indeed the world has been fed with by the Federal Government and the military, Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the dreaded Boko Haram sect, has refuted all claims by Nigerian military that he has been wounded or killed saying "I am alive and well." In two videos just released to SaharaReporters by Ahmad Salkida, a journalist that specializes in reporting conflict in Lake Chad region, Shekau, also said he is not done with waging war against the Nigerian government.

After watching the video, I can tell you that same position was attacked by BHT. They spied the military position with drone and then launched a huge attack on them.

This incident happened after the picture released by NAF. That was the best time NAF could have attacked BHT and make them suffer huge casualty.

There was a presence of a-jet and F-7 before the commencement of the attack.
I just watched the video as well, I cant believe these animals attacked the crash site.
what i gather from it is that the Cameroonians actually got there first, you can see their Mi-17 responding first ( probably to medevac those involved in the NAF crash) at 26:38, then their MRAPS showed up at 27:09 then boko haram sent in the drone, thats when you can see our troops and the Cameroonins setting up defensive positions (digging trenches and all).

Gentlemen I have no faith in the military winning this war anymore. I feel sorry for our brave men and women up north.

Years into this war, and billions of dollars spent, we still can't boast of having a precision strike platform on site 15mins after our boys make contact.
What are we even doing? Pouring good men and women into the battlefield without adequate air support in 2018.

I said it from the beginning that it's either bokoharam attacked the position. Seems NAF jet was providing cover for Cameroon helo.

Plus, it seems the soldiers escaped.

You buy MRAPS and then arm them with guns.

Nemesis4u, is it war crime to arm soldiers to fight like terrorists?

There was alot of issue there. Enough mortar fire would have seen bokoharam backing out. Those guys were armed with shilka and MRAPS with guns.

For bokoharam to have assembled in that huge amount to a very close location to the military, then what the heck is the ISR team doing?

In life and everything under the sun, there is no absolute definition of the RIGHT and the WRONG .
it boils down to your ability to enforce ur writ by whatever means possible and get away with it.

So hell no it is not a crime .
I had posted previously of such tactics ie fight the terrorists like terrorists

IA used it successfully during the last decade to fight the cold war hardcore mujahedeen spilling into k......

I had posted a couple of pics too previously

IMO NA would benefit from utilizing such groups across the border ie the foreign sanctuaries

Operational benefits r immense in terms of deniability, intelligence gathering , HVT localization/elimination , suffocation of external ingress/egress points , mapping and locating supply network , dominating/curtailing support of elements among locals across border , subversion etc etc

I would not recommend operation of such groups inside the country though and their needs to be a strict oversight over such groups.

And importantly such groups don't exist in paper , they should only exist in rumors in order to get the best results.

In IA some casualties suffered by such groups were due to blue on blue as the general command had no clue about the existence/operation of such groups.
Even today much of the incidents r classified or simply destroyed so as to not leave a smoking gun.

you were right ! it seems like the heli made an emergency landing in some kind of no mans land hence the fortifying by own troops when they got there to secure it, maybe they couldnt hold the position without taking multiple casualties so they destroyed the heli and retreated.

it looks like boko haram have a D-30 Howitzer mounted in a truck, fast jets with dumb bombs are quiet ineffective.especially when friendly forces are very close to the foe

looking at the boko haram quadcopter drone video, one can see the yellow lorry"truck" and eventually we do see the destroyed ZSU-23-4 Shilka.so this photo was taken prior to boko haram attacked them

What fire power? Bokoharam had a bigger man power and also fire power.

The shilka was hit from a far distance or was either destroyed by own troops to avoid it being captured. The shilka won't be able to move fast so I guess that's why.

The only fire power we had was the shilka. The figure jets were taking defensive measures. There was no way they could drop some bomb under such condition since our jets don't fire guided ammunitions.

In another way. There was no way bht will bring down any of the fighter jet as they were flying sorties high. I expected some rocket fire.

Yes. Those jets were under attack and at the same time they couldn't just drop the bombs to avoid bombing friendly forces.

I saw the howitzer too.

There was no way the shilka could have stopped them. If we had mortar, that could have been another idea . The categorically destroyed the shilka from a far distance with the BMP guns. Where did they get those?

I just finished watching the video.

Can you imagine these barstards spying on ground troops not more than 50metres and also estimating the ground troop size and position.

They would av called for reinforcement and flanked them from different directions.

Honestly we really need the jf17. Now if we can't pick up such cheap fighter jet off the shelf ...? Then I wonder what type of 4th gen jet we are buying.

You see my friend, I am begin to tire from these things
Haven't watched the video yet cause the network here is so shitty but judging from comment laid here I can only begin to wonder why at least a mortar section wasn't added to the security of that crash perimeter. Its already a given, boko attacks in swarm and the best kind of weapons needed for swarms are mortars or MGL/AGL why then I wonder wasn't it deployed. Why wasn't appropriate recce done after setting up a perimeter at the crash site

I will identify other things when I watch the video

Dude, are you sure you are okay at all?

You claimed to have watched the video, please what did you actually watch there, or were you watching the video through the back of your cheap Chinese phone?

There clearly were fast jets in the area, an Alpha Jet and an F-7, what extra benefit will another fast jet provide in such a scenario?

Damn you're such a dullard!

What is required there is a CAS aircraft with a good loiter time. That's an attack helicopter or a Super Tucano type aircraft, not a fast jet olodo!

Questions I begin to throw around in my large coconut

How long did the troops stay there?
Is that area so active that boko could easily have amassed?
Where was ISR while they were at the crash site(Even the gulma would have sufficed)
Wasn't there a way to direct artillery strike to dissuade the enemy?

JF17s would have only been there for acrobatics in my opinion
In the video was there any response by Mi24/35?

altogether I think TRADOC isn't flexible at all. All these lessons we have learnt constantly from ECOMOG years to Boko Insurgency and what do we show for it? Repetitive mistakes on home soil? Dammit!

Hopefully they get the SF units to track the spoors of the boko people to trail them back to their enclaves and harass them

Unlike the JF-17, Alpha jets and the F-7s don’t have targeting pods and precision munitions.

Don’t be unfortunate in 2018 grin
