Sometimes you'ld think igbos are the only nonindegenes living and working in lagos state.
Only igbos want to tell us how we should organise our region.

You cry about your investments and contribution to lagos' development everyday as if the yorubas are forcing you to invest in their region.

This bill is verry necessary, it's a direct message to you that lagos is not a no man's land.
If you are not happy about it go back home and stop investing in lagos.

Even the UK govt requires the yoruba language from people seeking to work in its police force,

why is it now a sin that yorubas want everyone that will school in Lagos to have formal knowledge of the yoruba language?

I was hating Ambode but I'm begining to like him because of this bill.

I didn't say you shouldn't promote your language, but the state government went too far, they should have limited it to primary and secondary school.

my opinion thou.

There LASU is not the only University in Nigeria or even in Lagos. UNILAG is still there, it's a FG uni and they won't ask you anything about language.

You do have a choice and other options.

Actually that doctrine does not exist.
We operate a system of exclusive and concurrent lists

So it is either the law conflicts with the constitution or the state government does not have the power to legislate.
We have had Federal laws binned at the Supreme court because they did not have the power to make such laws. By the way this was Litigated by Lagos State?
I always find your pseudo intellectualism amusing.

I wonder why Hausas have no problem with the law. It is always Ibos that think they have opinions.
We have seen such laws in Wales in the UK and in several states in India.
The argument about how far the law goes I. e university level is political and not legal. There is no doctrine that says how far the law can go.

I suggest you find out what transpires in the French speaking parts of Canada. There is nothing new about this. In my opinion it does not go far enough. It should be a condition for employment by LASG

Thats the funny thing about Afam, he tries to normalize his tribalism with some long worded jargon when everyone can see through his tribalism

Quebec within Canada speak French, the region next to it speak English.

It's funny how you guys just pick examples from wherever and try to juxtapose it with what is obtained in Nigeria. Do you know that Quebec tried to break out of Canada in the 60s, so the agreement that was reached that English along with French will be used side by side in all 10 provinces Quebec will be given some level of independence. Here in Nigeria, we don't have that. We're a unitary state pretending to be practicing federalism.

What is funnier is your poor attempt to justify your illogical tribal agenda
According to the constitution of the FGN we are a federal state where every state has the right to pass laws that suit them. Zamfara passed Shariah almost 20yrs ago and its still in effect till today,

Imo and Anambra passed language laws and no one held them to it, Kogi, benue etc passed grazing laws that are unique to their states, So why cant Lagos pass laws in the democratic settings according to the wishes of the lawmakers?

The social media is bubbling over a new law passed by the Lagos State house of assembly that made it compulsory for anyone seeking admission into Lagos State University to have a credit or pass in Yoruba language and also for the teaching of Yoruba language in all primary and secondary schools.
Ndi Igbo ibem, what is wrong with the law?
Why the noise?
The yorubas have shown the country again that they are proud of their identity and Lagos belongs to them which I agree, Lagos is a Yoruba state, argue with your shadow.
This is a time for us to think, Igbos,
We should be promoting our own identity like language, music, arts, movies ,attire etc
We should be more Igbotic everytime,
It pains me to see some Igbo youths busy trying to be more Jewish than Igbo,
To them, being Jewish is better to them than being Igbo,
Odinani is fading away and some are sweating to promote Judaism whereas the Israeli government are maltreating African immigrants in their country.
We are promoting Judaism while allowing Igbo identity to be fading away.
What a shock!

It pains me to see some Igbo youths busy online arguing and fascinating about how the minorities (ijaws, itsekiris, ogonis etc) will join Biafra.
How will they respect Igbo nation when you have painted yourself as beggars before them,
You hate the word homogeneous Igbo nation, you are only interested in teaching your children how how Phillip effiong was ojukwu vice therefore the whole of South south is Biafra yet if I ask your kids who Flora nwamkpa or mbonu ojike is, they will not know because you didn't bother to teach them.
Instead of talking about Igbo land issue, you are busy arguing on why south south is not in map or geography.

Who did this to us .

I love my Igbo ethnic nation and I am proudly Igbotic by nature, we need to be more ethnocentric as Igbos, enough of being politically correct as Igbo.
Love yourself.
Be proud of your Igbo identity
Showcase it.
Drop the defeatist mentality.
I have sworn that my little baby boy will learn from me how to speak fluent Igbo from small age, not just Igbo but his fathers Anambra dialect.
.
Kudos to Lagos government.
Let the Igbo governors follow suit.
And finally, Lagos is Yoruba land no matter the amount of investment owned by non indigenes just like Enugu is Igbo land.
There is an Igbo adage that says "O biara ije nwe ula "
Keep your branch anywhere but move your headquarters to Igbo land.
Return your investment home,

Igbo land is bigger than Rwanda ,Singapore and Israel in size yet these are countries,

A TRIBAL LANGUAGE IS MEANT FOR MEMBERS OF THAT TRIBE.

IT ALLOWS DEM TO COMMUNICATE EXCLUSIVELY, EXCLUDING ALL OTHERS (NON MEMBERS).

YORUBA THINK BY FORCING US ALL TO LEARN THEIR LANGUAGE, WE WILL STOP BEING IJAW, IGBO, URHOBO, ITSEKIRI, IBIBIO EFIK, IGALA, IDOMA.

ONE QUESTION, WE ARE ALL SPEAKING ENGLISH, DOES IT MAKE US ENGLISH.

YORUBA WILL LEARN IN A HARD WAY WEN FOREIGNERS START USING THEIR LANGUAGE AGAINST THEM.

IT WILL HAPPEN.

Stop this nonsense, Igbos are not ethnic champions, we are too egalitarian and Republican for that. The Biafra you are talking about has never been just about Igbos, the last President of Biafra, General Philip Effiong, was not an Igbo man. So where is this 'begging Ijaws and Ogonis' who were historically part of the Eastern Region and Biafra, coming from?

How many times have you talked about the Benue Igbos? Over one million Igbos and their ancestral lands carved into Benue.

Fo you talk sbout Igbnke? Six communities of Ika- Igbo speaking people carved into Edo. How do you divorce the Anioma nation from their Itsekiri and Urhobo nation in Delta state.

There is nothing wrong in being proud of being Igbo but know where to draw the line between being an Igbo ethnic jingoist and supremacist.

There is nothing silly about the move.
The law is made to ascertain their ownership of Lagos.
I can't drag ownership of a city when I am a non indigene there, it's stupidity.

I think you are wiser than most Igbo dolts here..lol.
The real reason is basically that because it has become too rampant and getting so annoying.Lagos is truly a cosmopolitan state but that does not mean it is without indigenes. Some other laws are coming which are legal anyway that will help in assuaging flexed nerves.Yoruba's had never hated Igbos because apart from the criminalities which other group has too, they are fun to live with and nation builders like the Yorubas.I think there is something about Igbos and the Yorubas.Maybe I do not know something.I have read a lot about our two leaders,Awo and Zik,and I think Zik had always suspected that Awo and his people might dominate them even when the other volunteered to be his vice ,he agreed not and the rejection of secession clause which would have been a benefit for all especially the Niger Deltans who bear almost all the brunt.Yorubas have the attitude of live and let live.If you look at history, one will find out that Yorubas had proven to be the senior from outset. It is not a mistake that you are always venturing to try to overwhelm the Yorubas,it is because they are the only people that have surpassed the Igbos in almost everything but not everything. We would not attack one another because we are not savages but I think we would continue this competition even in different countries.Stay in Lagos and prosper, you prosper,we prosper and everybody prospers.

igbos really dont realise what they have. You have spoken sense.

What good are we as blacks if we don't have unique identities. variety is the spice of life a good spice infact.
As long as we all respect each others culture, something the igbos fail at which is the crux of why yorubas dont like igbo (as a society) not individually (my close pal is pure igbo).

otherwise, why would we as Yoruba need to make these statements or laws if someone isnt overstepping bounds....

Igbos have the power of unison, if they put it to use. And would be greatly respected if they respect others, but until then.
