LaudableXX: Simple logic. All monies gathered goes to the central account whereby the revenue from each region is shared 50-50. 50 for central, 50 for the stated region. SIMPLE. Stop making a big deal out of the question. The 50% derivative policy was still intact. The question lacks intellectual rigour. That's why some of us had to rather expose and address his shallowness. |

Cromcruach91:Zanna Bukar Sullona DipCherima who was the senior cabinet member was to take over the government after the coupist had executed the prime minister. But in their meeting to effect this, Ironsi who was the head of the army used his position to threaten the cabinet ministers and cowed them to relinquish power to him. Though Ironsi was not part of the coup, he turned out an opportunist. He used the coup to assert himself head of state of nigeria. Eventually he supported the coup because it benefited him. He did everything to protect the coupist, especially that all of them turned out to be his kinsmen. He mishandling of the aftermath of the coup caused the july counter coup which also claimed his own life. At any rate, Ironsi was an opportunist whose action and inaction after the january coup contributed to the immediate out break of the civil war. 2 Likes |

gawu1: The coupists accused the balewa government of nepotism. The press and populace celebrated these coupists as heroes. Ironsi had to calm the tension by stepping in. Whether he did it for himself or for the nation is highly debatable. Why did the north want to continue enjoy their falsified numerical advantage? These unresolved allegations was one of the reasons for which the military coupists stepped in. 1 Like |

gidgiddy: Good question. But do you realize that the idea of one united and powerful North is no longer valid in the face of current realities, especially if you factor in the rabid Middle Belt awareness? In 2011 the Core North threatened fire and brimstone against Jonathan but with the Middle Belt votes he swept Buhari away like a tsunami. Unfortunately however Jonathan squandered all that Good will and the rest is now history. The truth remains that even the North itself knows it is no match for a united South with some parts of the Middle Belt tagging along hence they always capitalize on the division in the South by just befriending either Yorubas, Igbos or the Minorities. We saw the potency of the South over the North in the 1959 election if not that Zik just chose to spoil the show. 2011 presidential elections reiterated it. With the currently trending dissatisfaction with Buhari in the South and Middle Belt about his suspected fulanization agenda a bill for secession referendum will get Southern and Middle Beltern support which together will amount to an overwhelming majority. Also don't forget that the entire territories under the present Benue State, Kogi East Senatorial District, and some parts of Southern Taraba State were in the Southern Protectorate as of 1900 till the early fifties when the creation of regions saw them fraudulently gerrymandered to the North by the colonial masters with Zik's indifference as the leader of the Eastern Region into which they should have naturally fallen without the gerrymandering. The people of at least these three territories are pro-South in orientation and culture thus with their support, if properly lobbied, a referendum bill will see the light of the day easily. 1 Like |

DerideGull: I will educate you but you can still live in your ignorance. The president in a parliamentary system is NOT the commander in chief. The Prime Minister is the one that advises the president to dissolve the government. The president is only a figurehead. The head of the executive branch is the prime minister. Now, you can continue in your ignorance cos it's a bliss. 1 Like |

LaudableXX: The cluelessness is evident in your pettiness. Funnily enough, other ethnic groups exist and yet, the Fulanis run the affairs of the country. The country virtually belongs to them. That's exactly how the Igbos would still own Nigeria till this moment, if not for the foolery of Ironsi and his co-travelers of the Igbo stock. 1 Like |

Deadlytruth: Centralization of civil service has nothing to do with the operations of regional government. In this case, the crap found with Local Authority where one stupid Emir decides who and what type of job a person gets was put to rest. The standard of employment was simply centralized. If he terminated regional government, what the hell were the regional governors doing at the period in discourse? The regional government came to a regrettable end when states were created by dumbass Gowon and his cronies'. |

Deadlytruth: What the hell is Core North? Intellectual laziness of most Nigerians always drives them to commit avoidable ambiguity. If I remember correctly, most of July 29, 1966 coup members were minority Christians from the northern region of Nigeria. The participants of that coup validated the crap accredited to Ahmadu Bello that the conquered people under Sokoto caliphate shall be the willing tools of Jihadists. 1 Like |

iconize:No, you are the one whose remarks reek of pettiness. That is why you can make such a myopic statement like the 'Igbo would still own Nigeria,' as if Nigeria was your tribe's personal property. It explains why the Presidency has always eluded your people, due to ignorant narcissistic statements like the one you made. As for the Fulani, they only use the fact that PMB is in power to get away with impunity. It would soon end, when someone else gets into Aso Rock. Until then, keep deluding yourself that the "Igbos would still own Nigeria till this moment...". When you wake up from your slumber, you would curse the delusion that enveloped you. 1 Like |

DerideGull: I guess Murtala Mohammed, the grand architect and mastermind of the revenge coup plot was a Middle Belter, right? Any human endeavor is defined more by its leadership than anything else. Why do we classify all other post Nzeogwu coups as Northern in character despite the fact that the military juntas which resulted from them had a lot of Southerners as beneficiaries? The fact that your yourself agree, according to the bolded that, those Christian Middle Belters only did the the Core North's bidding by virtue of their conquered territory status should have been enough evidence to you that the coup in question was the brainchild of the very Core North whose involvement you have just laboured in vain to deny. |

DerideGull: You mean the regions remained even after Ironsi categorically blamed regionalism for the extant crisis and went further to announce in his May 24 1966 broadcast that "Nigeria ceases to become what is called a federation and becomes just a Republic"? The governors afterwards began to govern groups of provinces and not regions anymore. How come he asked them to henceforth be reporting to the centre if they still had their autonomy powers and their civil service institutions under their controls? 2 Likes |

DerideGull: Wrong! Dipcharima never served as a junior minister. He succeeded K.O. Mbadiwe as the minister, after Mbadiwe resigned over a conflict with Azikiwe. As Minister of Commerce, he announced the government's support for a motion suspending trade with the apartheid ruled South Africa, and sought fairer terms of trade for African nations. Zanna Bukar Sulloma Dipcharima, was a popular Bornu politician who served in the House of Representative from 1954-1966, and was later the leading member in the federal cabinet meetings, following the death of the Prime Minister in January, 1966. On January 16, rather than approve the appointment of Zanna Bukar Dipcharima, a politician of northern origin, as acting Prime Minister, the acting President, Nwafor Orizu, from the east, handed over power to Major-General JTU Aguiyi-Ironsi, the GOC of the Nigerian Army, also of eastern origin. Having nominated ZANA Diphcharima as our acting Prime Minister in the absence of the Prime Minister, whose whereabout we didn't know, we approached the acting President, Nwafor Orizu to swear him in because he cannot legitimately act as the Prime Minister except he is sworn- in. Nwafor Orizu refused. He said he needed to contact Zik who was then in West Indies. 2 Likes |
