u try in describing the snake, that's not king cobra, that Naja katiensis, cobra from Naja family... king cobra belong to another family of cobra which is Ophiophagus meaning snake eaters bcoz they eat snakes... Naja have three sprcies: Naja haje, Naja katiensis and Naja nigricolis. Mambas is another group of cobra from the family Dendroaspid...

It looks like a forest cobra, commonly found in the west African sub-region as well as parts of central Africa. They are good swimmers and competent climbers and can be identified by the yellow markings on the dorsal area. They are shy snakes but unfortunately, they regularly find their way into human habitats in search of rats and other prey - often with disastrous consequences for people unlucky enough to run into them.

There are suggestions that forest cobras may also have the ability to spit their venom when threatened although there isn't much of a consensus on this. What is not in doubt is that they are dangerous snakes that are highly likely to strike if cornered or threatened.

P.S. Some posters here keep mentioning king cobras but king cobras are NOT native to Africa. Even though the forest cobra specimen in this thread is quite large, it is nothing near the size of a king cobra - a fully grown king cobra would simply be too large to squeeze through a normal sized toilet bowl.

Spitting cobras are real and very common throughout Africa, so their existence is not a matter of speculation at all. They can launch highly acidic spray that can reach out to targets as far as ten feet away, with surprising accuracy, and they do aim for the eyes of their target, in the same way that bees in attack mode swarm the eyes of their victims.

I have seen a European snake collector nearly blinded by a spitting cobra in Nigeria, when he was attempting to subdue the serpent in order to make it a part of his venomous snake collection that he kept at home at the time.

God saved me from a dangerous horrible looking  cobra yesterday night  in my toilet Seat(WC) here in Abraka delta state.

It was around 7.34pm when wanted to use the toilet (pee)  I decided to use my touch light to view the sink  before action,i saw a black stuff below the water in the toilet seat and I was trying to identify what it could be because I used the toilet some hours ago. Lo and behold it was a horrible looking cobra. I called the care taker of the hostel where I live, he came and confirmed it.The snake is so big that we couldn't devised another good means to kill it than the use of Gun .For more than 2hrs the snake was there until we called the attention of the vigilante group and finally it was killed with the aid of a gun.

Please always make sure you look very well before using your toilet. I couldn't believe how it entered but verifications say it came from the toilet suck away pit.
