This is what people are missing about New York POE and the asylum seeker going to Canada. New York is quite close to the border of Canada and most Nigerian prefer using New York as their POE because the ticket is generally cheap but unfortunately most Nigerians trying to cross the border into Canada came into U.S through New York so most time if you fill Texas in your form and you entered through New York you will be flagged which means intense scrutiny at JFK POE or your visa will be revoked before you leave Nigeria. As for those seeking asylum some of them are already resident in U.S maybe for 1 month to 2yrs or more. Most of them decided to move to Canada because of President Trump immigration policy. My final advice is that don't be caught in the cross fire. Fly to the nearest international airport to your destination and be armed with everything you will need to defend yourself. 3 Likes |

seyewest: It is because of these people that minister Hussein came to Nigeria to get the government's commitment to issuing travel documents to them when removal time comes. Most of them dont have travel documents. |

Please i saw this on instablog and I don't know why the writter is emphasising on JFK....because I have just received my visa and in my form I filled I will be going on a vacation with my family in New York and am about to book my ticket going through JFK; but my wife can't come with me for this week due to her family issue... and I need to go as my work leave is counting and my daughter can't follow me as she's still young. My question is that is it safe to travel now and through JFK as I will be going alone with all these news of POE all around the corner?? (Am a 1st traveller) Thanks

mayorkays: If that's the case explain yourself clearly to the CBP officer.... I'm sure there won't be any problem just be calm. Safe Journey and remember to share your POE experience with us. |

JFK now a trap according to some rumors or facts? This is so uncalled for! Well I guess the catch is for the first time travelers, cos as a 2nd time traveler you’re not at a full risk cos u would have absconded if u wanted the first time. Also how would they know at MMA that u filled Texas and going through NY? I thought that can only be seen by the CBP Officer, just wondering why a visa would be cancelled at MMA This JFK is tiring o! People going for genuine reasons are now thinking of rescheduling their tickets to other POEs. I have to attend a conference next week, ticket bought and travel plans arranged. I even tried to hear cost of rescheduling flight and wow! A whole $1400 is required to change destination.. Mba nu that cant work I go face JFK like that God dey! seyewest: 1 Like |

Greetings everyone. Seyewest, this is really a nice job you're doing. This JFK and Canada asylum saga is not really serious the way we think. It's just that the intelligence agency there have beefed up securities at the POE . I reside in LA but I came back to Naija last week Tuesday for a family meeting and after my assignment in Naija, I returned back to the US on Sunday but this time around, I had to fly via New York to see a friend but when I got to JFK, I was expecting to see what people believe happens but I didn't notice anything, I even asked an airport official and she said nothing like that exists. They don't revoke people's visa for any unsuspecting reason but the only thing is that there's enough security now. I'd also like to use this opportunity to assist some persons here with useful info. Please, don't travel like me. I didn't stay up to a week during the course of my journey because I'm a Citizen, so don't try it. 5 Likes 1 Share |

jamesgordon: Bro no one said JFK is bad... it's one of the best airport and POE for Nigerians but you must be aware of the issue happening now as per one of the Canadian border proximity to New York. I like to inform the readers about the current trends happening in airport around U.S because information is power and I'm sure you know how much extra scrutiny we're subjected to as carrier of the green passport. If you have nothing to hide and if you have a genuine reason for traveling to U.S then you can come in through New York. All the best. |

The crux of this whole discourse is that first time travelers (Nigerians) to the US on B1/B2 visas should up their consciousness of matters at hand currently if they intend using JFK as their POE, the stakes will be very likely higher for them particularly.... 1 Like |

OmoBendel24: We need to even be sure that the people sent back from MMIA are first time travelers, I have not used the renewal visa I did in September last year I just hope it wont be a problem as I also chose NY. |
Re: U.S Visit: Port Of Entry Interview/stories. by seyewest(m): 10:45am On May 24, 2018 |
keni: The truth is if you have not abuse your visa before (Even though they renewed your visa) you have no problem. Things they normally overlook, they don't anymore especially for Nigerians. |
Re: U.S Visit: Port Of Entry Interview/stories. by OmoBendel24: 10:53am On May 24, 2018 |
keni: Truly that's another angle that needs to be cross-checked. I'm on my 4th US visa, and not even once have I used my visa on the date I gave for travel, haven't had issues so far except on my first visit, and it was at JFK, but I have enjoyed subsequent use of JFK too, hardly have I entered the US without either entering from there or exiting from there, it's always cheaper and I love seeing Manhattan environment always.... Someone earlier posted doubts on such things happening in Lagos, that only CBP is saddled with such responsibility. Okay oh! Well, I don't know whom they were exactly, but I know that a couple of years ago myself and other US bound passengers were made to step aside right after the then first immigration boarding gate at MMIA by some white folks with laptops and some other devices, my passport and visa was checked using the instrumentality of the above things, and I was subjected to a brief questioning/interview before being allowed to proceed to board, but one of the guys pulled off the queue and scrutinized was asked to come with them, the end result I don't know till date. |

OmoBendel24: Anytime you booked a plane ticket to U.S every airline is required to obtain crucial information from the passenger (crucial info are Passport data page info, address etc) this information is first run against your visa then run with other relevant institutions to ascertain if the passenger is fit to travel especially passenger who abused the terms of their visa and also assist the Canadian Govt. It makes more sense to them to cancel the visa before you board in Nigeria so as to assist the airlines. |

So I'm a silent listener and this is how my story goes. As a first time traveller it's only natural that I'll be afraid that I'll be overly scrutinised but the reverse was the case I read through most of the pages trying to find poe experience for philadelphia but didn't really find any so I just had to have faith that it won't be as bad as the dreaded o'hare. As God will have it, when I was looking for a cheap flight to atlanta, I saw BA had a promo but it would mean goin thru philly but cos I didn't know anything about the poe over there I was skeptical but as it turned out philly is a very easy poe So as we landed we moved straight to the line(very short queue) and within minutes it was my turn although I was targeting on nice looking lady who looked like she wasn't scrutinising too much I ended up in front of one old cbp and this is my transcript: Cbp: hello Me: hello Cbp: what's the purpose of ur visit Me: vacation Cbp: how long do u plan to stay Me: 5 weeks Cbp: I can see ur visa will soon expire in September Me: yes it will (expecting the next question to be why I took this long before using the visa) Cbp: do u have any food items Me: yes I do Cbp: what Items did u bring Me: crayfish garri ogbono semo...... Cbp: okay I'll stamp u in for the duration o ur visa which is till Sept 19 (he then wrote a red A on my customs form) and sent me to agriculture where my kilishi got seized, if to say no be my first time I wouldn't have declared I had food items and na so I for pass without any shaking as one woman who saw me later was advising me as she na regular flyer all her foodstuffs survived cos she didn't declare. Na so I go carry my bag dey head to the domestic departures part of the airport to check in for my final leg to atlanta. In my opinion for anyone who is considering philly as a port of entry just go ahead cos I think they are not as strict as other airports cos my whole experience was a breeze through the whole process NB: this Yankee fine o but e no fine as e be for film o people wey dey go fast and pray just to come US I no see gold for road it just looks so normal 8 Likes 1 Share |
