Stnomso:

Asaba was founded in 1884
I would argue that this isn't true. Asaba was founded by an exiled chief/rich man in Bini city. I say so because I encountered a document about bini by a Portuguese explorer that said the Oba of Bini was confiscating the properties of anyone in Bini city that was richer than him or had a bigger house. One man refused and was exiled "2 days" east of Bini City. He later came back with an army and sacked a large part of the city before retreating in defeat and founded his own kingdom.

I theorize that this is Asaba because the origin story of Asaba and Onitsha is a similar story. Only the visitor was from the 16th century. Another explorer reported that Asaba has 'spilled east' and a new settlement has been founded there and has even outgrown Asaba since the last visit. This sounds like Onitsha.

So you can say Onitsha started in the 1500s because the document matches your account but Onitsha based on my sources was once the same city as Asaba that soon surpassed the predecessor (I believe because east of the river is denser and at the time as today economically more important and active).

the computer where I kept the documents was stolen but when I find them I'll update anyone that's interested and not just angry because I implied there are bigger cities in the world than Onitsha.

By this accord, you can say that Onitsha was the first city in what we now call 'the south east'. I will say that Arochukwu, Nri and Orlu were very large and predate Onitsha though I don't know if they can be called cities because modern urbanization started at Onitsha for the region with the missionaries that came soon after the second document I wrote about.

Igbos, the only group without head nor tail. They don't know where they are and they don't know where they are going.

They are always comfortable whenever they see bread dipped in chilled water. They build their tent there and forget that there is tomorrow.

Igbos, no old generation to learn from and no next generation to look up to. The worst that can ever happen to a people.

Igbos, where is your God!!!

Obiano is bent on cleaning up Anambra but I want more.

I want more and more trees.

Standard public toilets.

Clean paved roads without sand dunes.

Better drainage system.

Grasses and green every where.

Every house must knock down their fences and plant trees and grasses

Every house must remodel their exterior and repaint it.

I want a squeaky clean, green and beautiful Anambra in 10yrs.

For clean, green and beautiful you need law and order. You need to make sure you fix your transport system and your unruly markets. For now the Obiano government is not serious. They announce no street trading yet commercial streets still full of shacks and barrow hawkers and people selling inside gutter.

Now just consider that there are less than 50 major commercial streets in the state. If you cannot manage 50 streets with your hundreds of ATMA and OCHA brigade staff you shouldn't call yourself a government.

Over 100,000 people pass through Times Square in New York a day yet you don't see the rubbish of filthy illegal hawkers as you see in Anambra where less than 5,000 visit any one of the markets. There once used to be drug peddlers and Chinese hawkers but the NY govt are firm and uncompromising unlike the corrupt Obiano OCHA brigade.

Look at Onitsha expressway, the emergency lane is littered with trailers, abandoned vehicles, pickup trucks you name it. You can't protect your roads and you call yourself government? Better governments would clamp those vehicles and collect massive fines to serve as a deterrent.

What's your own ethnic group by the way? Let's see what we can learn from you guys.

Why do we find it hard to get a handle on environmental issues? This is his 5th year as governor, you would have thought that by now we would start seeing a marked improvement in the aesthetics and ambience of roads in major cities in the state! It's not rocket science is it?

The govt in partnership with 2 private companies are building 2 trailer parks in Onitsha metropolitan area. The one @ Obodoukwu rd Okpoko is almost completed and will be commissioned anytime from now. The issue of parking on the express way will not continue!

This figure of 2.5million cannot be the true population of Onitsha metropolitan area. It may be For OBOSI TOWN & OBOSI urban with more than 20,000 high rise buildings with each housing over 50 people per building is over 1million people. There are other low density bungalows numbering in thousands which will bring the real population of both OBOSI TOWN & Urban to over 2million people!

I think Anambra state government need to slow down with rural roads and fix inner cities roads, so much money is being wasted on roads that see less than 3 vehicles a day while roads in Nnewi, Onitsha and Awka are in sorry state.

Roads in fegge, awada and inland town, even nkpor are very disgusting

Maybe you also need to do PPP for cleaning up commercial streets and ridding them of hawkers and illegal vehicles parked since ANSG is too corrupt.

This Obiano government unfortunately does not understand the importance of order for real estate development. Get rid of hawkers, retailers renting shops benefit, enforce sanitation laws and building requirements and landlords will upgrade, enforce no parking laws people will build car parks and get revenue.

In Lagos because they practically pushed out fruit n veg vendors from the major streets you now see real organized grocery shops forming.

@Dawatnama, Obiano is working on most urban roads in Onitsha and Awka as well as he is working on most rural roads. I have even posted some of them here before now. What i kept asking myself is where does he get all the funds to be able to meet up with all these.

Anambra needs to have better urban planning not just roads. Water, health, sanitation, industry. Onitsha to me is what you get when you leave the common man to plan. Chaos. A city that was a beacon of modernity with missionaries, schools, western trading companies has degenerated into a city of unregulated filth and commercial madness. Onitsha is supposed to have all the regional HQ of multinationals and banks but they flee to Enugu and Asaba.

Everyone knows that that person is always making senseless and unfounded comments. Does he think that Onitsha of 2018 is the Onitsha of 1980? I have decided not to reply his lies borne out of bitterness. I wonder what people gain by lying all over the place.

Anambra virtually has no rural-urban difference as such as we speak, everywhere including villages, towns and cities are all well connected.
Most people wouldn't understand except they live or from here.
Is Ikeja and Agege different from Surulere and Lagos Island?
