thanks. It's a PLAB 2 under Business visa tho the standard visa covers it. It's just very confusing. I am just worried

Business visa, General visa, family visa, etc are all classed under standard visitor visa.

He should apply for the intended number of days to spend in the UK. What get you a visa is not the shortening of number of days to spend, but the reason for the visit, documents to back it up and solid home ties to Nigeria.
He will. Thank you very much

You did not proof that your mum sends money to you..basically no evidence to support that claim.

Immigration wise your brother will be regarded as your sponsor as he is the one picking up the bills for your travel

Thank you for your reply but my mum does not send me money and i did not mention her at any point. I only filled her details and my dad's under parents' details. I presented my bank statements highlighting all monies in my account from brother every month and school fees paid by him. To be honest, maybe the ECO was on something because clearly he or she did not look at my application at all.

Did you upload the refusal letter here before?

I noticed somethings here about people that were refused, i think we should stop presenting two or more statement of accounts, its like its confusing the ECO and they will start looking at a point were you once have a very low balance to make a decision.

Just thinking aloud

So my mums visa application to come and visit me and my family for a one month visit to see her grandson (5 month old) on holiday was refused.

Attached is the refusal letter.

She is not a first timer. She has visited us in the UK before back in 2011 to attend our marriage blessing (wedding) and she only spent two weeks which was what she quoted on her application form at the time.

Here are the documents that I submitted:

1. Invitation letter
2. My British passport
3. 6 month pay slip from work
4. My Son's birth certificate
5. My current account statement (with balance of less than £100)
6. My Savings account statement (with balance of a little over £7,000 pounds)
7. My wife account (where all our household expenses are debited from)

8. My mortgage statement (to prove my residence)

9. 11 months worldremit money transfer receipts (I send N50,000 each to my dad and mum every month for their upkeep.
I also include a money transfer receipt from february this year showing that I sent home money to pay their rent at the flat that they live in).

My mum submitted the following documents

1. Her bank statement (that reflect the monthly 50k money transfer I do through the agent into her account every month)

2. My dads bank statement (that shows that I send the same amount to my dad too)

3. A letter from my dad stating that he is giving permission for my mum to visit us in the UK for one month

4. A copy of my dads passport showing that they bear the same last name (they don't have a marriage cert. They married under traditional marriage)

5.

In the invitation letter, I stated that I will be funding her trip from Lagos to Nigeria to heathrow and to my house and back to Nigeria at the end of the trip using the money saved in my savings account (i quoted the account number).

I also said that my parents are dependent on me and I send them regular stipends (with the money transfer proof and their bank statement to show it) as they are older (dad is in his 70''s) and do not have any form of income like pension.

I also mentioned that she will be staying the entire trip at our residence. And i mentioned that I have earmarked the sum of £3,500 out of the funds available in my in my HSBC savings account for her trip.

I gave a detailed budget below:

Flight Ticket and Airport Transfer £1,000
Grocery/Food shopping £600 (for four weeks)
Visit to attractions £500
Stipends (for her to spend) £750
Travel Insurance £150
Miscellaneous £500

Can you good people in the house help me look over this and suggest what I can do to resolve the issues that the ECO raised. Thanks.

Sorry for this refusal. My take is that why did you say that your mother is unemployed? Secondly your budget for her visit was expectionaly high. She only requires return fight ticket +100£ for any travel incidence. What ever you spend on her during her visit is non of anyone business. You can re apply and only present your saving account. Or move money to your current account and explain in a cover letter that ECO did not take into account your savings which is sufficient to support your mother visit.

Thanks very much ekpotek. I mentioned that she is unemployed because she is a housewife. She does not have a job. Or am i wrong to think that being a housewife is considered a "job"?

The only source of income she gets is what I send to her account directly every month (same with dad). My dad is in his 70's and closed down his business too without any source of income.

Kindly advise.

How do I address the budget in the new application? Should i create a new budget stating only that I am paying for her travel expense?

ANy chance you can help with examples of how to deal with this please?

I am happy to present my savings account alone. But won't the ECO want o see proof of my earnings? hence why I include the current account in the first place?

Thanks for your help on this.

Seriously how can you submit such budget? £500 for sightseeing? £600 on food alone? Miscellaneous £500?

You blew it.

Did you submit recently dated bank statement?

Me putting miscellanous of up to £500 was to coer for any expenses that was unforseen.

What would be a better budget?

Kindly do help give guidance on how to write an acceptable budget please.

Yes I submitted a bank statement (savings & current) up till April 2018. Application was done in May.

Good evening all, ardent follower of this thread. I apologize for the potentially long post. God bless everyone for their good works and thanks @justwise for creating this platform.
I am a student in Europe, full time. my school is now on break and I applied for a UK visa to spend time with brother and family last month. Unfortunately, my visa was refused AGAIN for the second time in 6months. for the latest, I was notified via email with a PDF attachment yesterday. I have not received my passport yet.

1. Applicant’s current original passport and copies of other passports with my travel history-visa stamps
2. Applicant’s proof of legal residence in study country (residence permit)
3. Applicant’s confirmation letter from school stating student status and holiday period
4. Applicant’s student ID and academic transcripts.
5. Invitation letter from brother.
6. Brother’s bio data page and proof of legal status in the UK(He's a British Citizen)
7. Brother’s 6 months bank statement and council tax bill
8. Printed online application form and checklist.
9. Applicant’s bank statement of 6 months.
10. Applicant’s housing agreements (for my flat)
11. Applicant’s study agreement.
12. Applicant’s chat history of about two years with my brother(217 pages).
13. Some pictures of me with my brother and his family
14. Cover letter explaining ANYTHING that may not be clear and my holiday plans to go shopping, sightseeing and so on. my brother stated I'd have 2000 pounds to spend on my holidays.

PLEASE NOTE- I did not mention my "mother" at any point except for the part of the form that stated parents details. My mum is retired and my brother has been responsible for me. This is a serious oversight from the ECO just like in the first refusal where he said i did not plan to stay with my brother which i clearly stated otherwise in my cover letter and application form. I stated i was a non-working student and all my expenses are FULLY taken care of by my brother with proof of my bank statement with money transfers from my brother which I HIGHLIGHTED. Why are they referring to him as a UK Sponsor? He is my eldest brother and also included both our birth certificates. i have no right to admin review and my brother plans to call and send emails to them for this oversight. Cos i am not sure my application was looked at at all.
Please I really need your opinion and insight sirs @justwise @ekpotek and all other gurus. THANKS AND GOD BLESS!

What was the reasons for your first refusal 6 month ago and was the issues addressed in your second application?

I will suggest you leave out your hubby for now. Apply with you son and see how it goes. You have enough fund to take the vacation.

Hi Gurus,

Quick one pls!!

I got PTDF Scholarship to go for my PhD in the UK and I will like to go with my son and husband as dependants, now here are my questions

1. Is my husband's statement of account needed to process his visa?

2. Do we all have to share the same last name?

3. If we don't share the same last name, what are the documents I need to provide to proof we a family

4. How early can my husband get a Job on the UK?

5. Please what the average monthly rent for a bedroom OR 2 BEDROOM apartment in EDINBURGH.

Thanks!!!

1. He will apply for a Dependant visa. Yes his account statement will be need if you’re applying together unless your scholarship also cover family up keep of your husband and son

2,3. Not necessary as long as you have civil marriage certificate to proof the relationship.

4. Depend on his qualification and job availability. It could immediate or may take longer. There are always unskilled job to do in the UK
5. Check UK house renting site for that information.

Unemployment is only acceptable if your mother is looking for work. Home making/housewife is preferably if she is an elderly person. What was her status in her previous application in 2011? Just explain in your cover letter why your mother is unemployed.

You budget line should only be for her flight ticket and perhaps £100 for incidentals. Accommodation and feeding is free. She coming there to see her grandson, so all those expense like shopping, etc should be eliminated. Move money to you current account and re submit both current and saving accounts and explain to ECO to show you have access you saving account, you have moved £2000 to your current account. Then you can also credit your mum account with flight ticket money and £100 pocket money. Again move the fund from your savings and explain to the ECO that you doing this so that you have access to this account and she can buy her ticket from Nigeria. The ECO want so see that you have access to your saving account, so show it.

Good evening sir
1. They said I had only began my studies and planned to visit the UK for a month. It was the end of my first semester.
2. They stated my confirmation letter from school was not in English but I attached a legalized official English translation that was overlooked by the ECO.
I am doing a two-year masters program and I am done with my first year already.
Could not reapply then because my holidays were almost over when the refusal came.

If you still plan to have your vacation reapply ASAP. Address the initial refusal, by stating:
1. You have by now spent a year session in your studies affirming that you are bonafide student in XXXX university undertaking xxxx programme which you also supported with xxxx documents in your last application.

2. That the ECO did not see your legalized translation of your confirmation letter, which you have added again to this application. I suggest you mark boldly on the translated and original confirmation letter for the ECO to know.

Review your school admission documents to see if there is anyway you have indicated your mum as as a sponsor for your master studies. The ECO may have access to information about you that you are not aware from your previous UK application. If your mum was sending you money provide document to support this. If not then also provide document to counter the statement of the ECO (sponsorship document)

Account Closing balance? Any fund lodgement that is twice your salary in the last 6 months. What is the reason for the trip? How long has your wife being unemployed? Both your chances is largely dependent your work history, and integrity to return back with your wife after the trip. How you will convince the ECO is a matter of conjecture. So start drafting a convincing cover letter, focus on your working history in Nigeria, marriage and family life. Clearly enumerate your intention and reasons to take your wife to Bleep holiday in the UK. Discussed why she is unemployed, or you prefer her not work as you are capable of taking care of her need. Finally show that your position in your work place cannot allow you to overstay and you would be returning back with your wife. Clearly you need more documents eg marriage certificate, promotion letters, work contract and pay, 6 month pay slips, leave letter, birth certificate etc. Any information you put in the application form must be supported with evidence.

Been unemployed doesn't matter on the eco decision.
I for Instance wrote unemployed in my application form, though I work in hubby's company and he pays me monthly, I didn't have a salary account.
What I did was to explain in my cover note that I also work in our family business and carry out some duties atimes to the best of my ability .
I got my 6month visa with my 3 children recently , though hubby has 2years UK visa already.
I also have 2years US renewed visa.

Wife unemployed. ECO will see this as immigration intent. Do you and your wife have A grade travel history? [/quote]

Thinking about this now, I think I stated that she was a hosue wife back in 2011 when we applied. At the time, the form was self explanatory. I guess where I misunderstood the form while filling out on her behalf was the online form asked if she is either employed or unemployed and I naturally picked unemployed. I guess I should have selected "Other" and type in Housewife/home making in it.

When re-applying, I will explain the above in my cover letter.

Thank you for this. I will do everything you suggested and re-apply. God bless you real good and many thanks to Endlessgrace and Justwise and everyone else who made contribution.
