1.We produce less than 2.5million barrels of oil a day, which is about the same the UAE produces, but then the UAE has 12million people

2.Where do you get the idea I supported the govt plan to. Disburse the abacha loot? Or the N5000 plan (one if the reasons why I stopped taking APC serious as far back as 2014)

3.The power.sector.needss billions of dollars not millions. 300million may just give us some MW.

4.Oil cannot feed us. Manufacturing and innovation will. But it is too much work and we don't want to do that. We want our daily drop of our oil money so we can import stuff. And

Man, where are you getting this notion from? The masses are working their as$es off on daily basis just to eat one or two meals per day. The only few people who spend the oil money are less than 1% of our population. Nigeria governments at various levels don't provide free food or money to anyone.
You don't expect someone using hoe and cutlass to produce much. He needs to go mechanised but where is the government support?
You don't set up factories with stones, you need money.

So, because of that they should just abandon the project and steal the money? I see your sense. It was a very sophisticated well reasoned.
theoldpretender:
So,we call on the Chinese government to fix the airport...and it looks beautiful..

then what?

The problem I have with Nigerians is that they want people to do things for them. Nigerians won't vote for sensible people to run things. They insist on paying small taxes, or N20 for something that costs N20000 naira. They somehow think that the funds for maintenance and construction will come from the sky...and so on.

The truth is, if we want beautiful airports in all our cities, we have to be prepared to vote for the right kind of people..not bring back a party that messed us up for 16 years (and pretended to fix the Port Harcourt airport...) or bring back an elderly general that really needs to be retired...or even vote for 'the young men and women'...but people who are prepared to work.

And we must be ready to pay proper taxes. And pay proper bills.Yes, it would be expensive. Yes, what have they done with the money they spent before? But you cannot buy a house for N200million, and be prepared to only spend N50000 annually for maintenance. High quality means high maintenance costs.

I didn't argue with you about the oil income and our population. The little we've got so far had been looted and still being looted by the few privileged individuals, it wasn't used for developments. It has never benefited the masses in any way. That's my point.

If we're going to invest in agriculture, is it not the oil money that will be used? Now, let them budget 2 trillion naira for agricultural revolution in 2019 budget. You will be surprised to know 95% of the budgeted money will be released while implementation will not surpass 5%.
Our income is low from civil servants to private organisations to artisans to traders, so should expect the purchasing power of people to be low and prices of goods and services to be equally low. That's Economics 101 for you.

The reason why they loot is because most Nigerians are too lazy to hold them to account, or only hold the chap to account if he is from the wrong tribe.

Plus, many Nigerians think development equals more money.

If GSM companies followed your logic regarding prices, the whole GSM revolution won't have happened. Once upon a time SIM was very expensive. But thanks to the high amounts of money raked in from selling Sims At 10000naira, GSM companies had the cash to expand and upgrade facilities. And to eventually bring down prices. And to think some people wanted govt to make them charge lower back then

LOL i have no problem with no individual....Buhari is a dreamer and he actualized that in his life time so is Atiku and the rest......dreams are free

If you are also one of those that was very convinced that Buhari was the solution then........You dont pay attention to details......his pedigree says contrary and Yorubas only played tribal game to support Tinubu

sequel to the above, you re not a visionary and so is Sowore

We need a visionary not just an ambitious fellow full of sudden dream with no road map

So Yorubas played the tribal game when they voted for Buhari. What game were they playing when they fought for Jonathan to be made substantive president after the death of Yar'Adua?

What game were they playing when they voted for Jonathan in 2013?

What game were they playing when they rejected Buhari more than 3times at the poll prior to 2015?

Are you even aware of what's going on in Nigerian politics? I doubt it.

It is fine to mention pedigree when talking about Buhari. You voted for Jonathan despite his pedigree as a non achiever. He as deputy governor and then governor of Bayelsa state yet did nothing.

He was vice President and then President for 6years yet all we got was corruption.

He didn't even clean up the oil spillage in his home town and it took a Fulani man, the same Buhari to start the process. Yet you talk of pedigree? Ok o

But then its your vote, your life. You've got one. You are free to vote in whoever you like.

It's very convenient for you to blame the victims ehn undecided So because Nigerians are not paying enough, the people in charge of all the institutions you mentioned should just cart away the money for themselves. I like your reasoning.
theoldpretender:

Yes, we know. We can all recite this poem off head.

But then, you Nigerians go and vote for a party that messed us up for 16 years....or the ruling party that has no idea to bring in the needed change to make things better.

And bills? You people insist on paying less than $5 for light monthly...and you expect 24 hours light...when you should be paying 5 times that? And you expect DISCOS and GENCOS to suddenly have the cash to be able to pay for gas?

You want good universites...and you insist on paying N50000 fees for N1 million naira education?

You insist on paying N97 for fuel that should at least cost N250 per liter...and you wonder why there are scarcity (and you blame govrement...for the worng reasons).

You know that there is a lot of infrastructure in a lot of countries...because people pay heavily in taxes and bills. Not the cheap thing we pay for in Nigeria.

Oil money cannot feed all of us. Neither can restructuring...because the prices of agric and other commodities rise and fall like oilprice. We need to invest in industrial development, and making things that the world needs...not in importing stuff and wasting our money on useless subsides...that prevent job creation, and leave millions unemployed.

You guys just made it look like the Yorubas votes are being controlled by Tinubu. Funny. Check the last presidential votes for both Jonathan and Buhari in the SW and tell us the margin. People belong to political parties because they see themselves as politicians and they will vote for the parties they belong to irrespective of the tribe of the candidates.
Let Tinubu cross to SDP or LP today and let's see if APC and PDP won't record more votes for their presidential candidates in 2019.
Lastly, Yorubas don't play tribal games, we're the most detribalised ethnic group in Nigeria of today. Go to SE and SS and see the block votes for a particular party. In the SW, you can never see anything like that. So, where is the tribal game coming from? May be, you would have preferred a block votes from the Yorubas too which is the real tribal game.

it would turn chaotic...the reason this country is as it is is because of the love of money and greed...

before oil came Nigerians coexisted in peace. .. as oil came greed came...people lusted after power...war came strife came sense of entitlement came or otherwise, why is the FG looking for oil in the chad basin? so that the north can also lay claim to being an oil producing region afterall that is why threat of secession came to be

...the hope of every secessionist agenda was built and centered on oil not any ideoligical principle...oil producing Cameroon and Gabon has the same presidents for how many years now ? Gabon's current president took over from his father in 2009 after his death. His father ruled for 42 years. Biya nko ruling since 1982 thats about 36 years...has the citizenry fared any better? thats the future of a Nigeria divided along tribal lines....worse off than the current status quo

too much self centeredness and greed...
Cameroon has over 200 tribes and civil war is almost looming. The English have been continuously marginalised and want their own country. What started as protests turned into people carrying arms. Gabon is also a very poor example to use. Poverty is also very rampant and the country is very diverse too as there are over 50 tribes.

Don't deceive yourself, the prices of SIM cards and tariffs came down because of competitions. I remember mtn telling us that they couldn't charge at per second billing until glo came with per second charge. DSTV subscription had been at the high side since. How many years now in Nigeria? Actually, the oil money cannot feed all of us.

If we want to be well fed, we have to follow Mr Aigbeni prescription and manufacture what the world needs.

Saudi, Dubai, Norway are well fed by their oil money. They also have populations less than 20million people each. Do the math.

i read several of your analysis...

only if we had a million people like you, Nigeria would have become a better place....

That's all you've been yammering about. To paraphrase you: "Nigerians don't pay high taxes, therefore people heading institutions in the country should 'flex' until the people are ready to pay high taxes" If you cannot allude this as what you've been commenting all along then forgive me for not helping your comprehension skills.

From your comments, I can you almost deduce that you do not own or run any legitimate business in Nigeria to talk about taxes and levies and how much more you would like the government to increase them.

Is it high taxes that make over 75% of Nigerian annual budget to be recurrent expenditure and the national assembly consuming as much as 30%?

How much has Nigeria accrued from oil trade over the years and what exactly is the one sector or public institution thing you can lay a finger on that is efficient?

I read earlier you attributed private investment (GSM) to the government. Bloody shame on you! What next, Olamide is successful because of Nigerian government and policies?

There is no accountability and you are talking about taxes. Have you asked if all states have been able to pay the N18,000 minimum wage but you want increased taxes, from whom if I may ask?

Is it insufficient tax rates, that cause politicians to abscond with money for projects which you clearly think is the main reason the airport has been in that condition since 2012?

Or would you pretend not to be aware that all 'white elephant projects' that have been investigated revealed that the contract sums were not only over-inflated but the funds were fully disbursed.

I don't know if you are trolling, if so then you got me, but I hope there's just a little bit of conscience left in you and that is what I try to reach, even though you may be feeding fat off these sham projects and government officials' stealing.

Yes but being diverse is also a major problem. A country that is almost 100 percent homogenous would be able to tackle this corrupt leaders easily but you can't in an extremely diverse nation as they would always play the tribal card. Rwanda is working because it's almost completely homogenous. The hutus and tutsis speak the same language and were just words used to different people in the past based on the wealth they had
