The CAS_AMSadique is at the Regiment Training Centre (RTC) Kaduna today, 31 May 2019, for the graduation ceremony of Special Forces (SF) Instructors’ Course 2/2019, comprising 51 offrs & men who are set to join the RTC faculty to groom subsequent sets of SF personnel.

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, was at the Regiment Training Centre (RTC) Kaduna today, 31 May 2019, for the graduation ceremony of Special Forces (SF) Instructors’ Course 2/2019, comprising 51 offrs & men who are set to join the RTC faculty to groom subsequent sets of SF personnel. As customary, the event featured counter terrorism drill demonstrations by graduating students covering vehicular and foot assaults. In order to further boost Nigerian Air Force (NAF) SF training capacity, the CAS announced that 3 RTC training centre annexes would be established at Ipetu-Ijesha in Osun State, Owerri in Imo State and Bauchi in Bauchi State, for enhanced terrain training. With assistance from British Military Advisory Training Team and Israeli Four Troop Team, NAF RTC has trained over 3,000 Regiment and SF personnel in the last 4 years, significantly boosting NAF force protection & SF capability in line with the capacity building initiatives of the CAS. Details later.

Manpad missed flare , I am guessing it was igla isn't it ?

Actually I have seen R 73 miss flares during IAF exercise. Proximity fuze did not trigger due to small size of flare in the case of R73. AAM don't have impact fuze.

Wonder why igla missed / did not trigger the warhead
Later versions have both impact and proximity fuze.

My guess will be since igla flew past the flare , so proximity fuze did not trigger due to small size of flare and also small size of flare rules out direct hit possibility ( not always ) sometimes it scores direct hit on flares.

They use probably the Qw2 chinese copy of the igla produced under license in algeria .

And for the target you are right they use very small thermal flare . that's why it crosses the trajectory of the thermal lure without exploding .

Algerian army use , the enix 95 and mirach III target drones for serious and big air defense exercise and in this case you can see the impact

Isn't the Nigerian Airforce becoming too interested in terrestrial capabilities?.

Of course,I understand the need for trained manpower, but I think this is more the domain of the NA. All these resources we are spending to expand NAF infantry should be used to order more combat and surveillance aircrafts, and improve on R& D of local components.

Maybe it is a sign of vote of no confidence on the army to hold the ground to protect the air force, so they choose to produce their own ground force to protect them

And the NA procuring an aviation wing could also be interpreted as lack of confidence in the NAF's ability to provide timely air support.

Training units upon units of special forces combatants simply to protect air assets?,where are the air assets that needs such level of protection; a couple of push-to-start alpha jets, two rusty F7s and an unknown number of unspecified drones?.

I commend the CAS for his efficiency and transformational strides in recent years, there is no denying that he is the best service chief we have had throughout this BH insurgency. What worries me is how sustainable some of these policies are. A large NAF infantry will require huge resources yearly.

I agree with you honestly, I just don't see the need for the expansion of the Regiment and SF (especially) based on Internal Strife.

Its perplexing, the seeming comfort the military finds in running Internal security operations.

That said, the(some) threats we face internally are high risk but I will prefer investment is made towards NSCDC & MOPOL/CTU to counter it

I quite disagree with you concerning the number of special forces/regiments the NAF is "producing", apart from protecting NAF assets most of these guys are inserted into hot zones in the fight against insurgency. We need every single uniformed personnel in this war and no number is too small putting into cognizance the abominable land mass in the theatre of operations. The question should be why are other services not replicating the NAFs model on personnel training and capacity building especially the army which by default suppose to be the queen and leader of the fight against terrorism, isn't it from the same purse NAF is getting funds cos if you look at it, it seems they have special oil blocks where they fund their activities from. Rather than fault them I'll advice other sister service to take a cue and expand as much as their budget can permit.

The best approach in long tern will be to decentralize the police and then give them autonomy under the law.The current centralized system is cheaper, but much less effective. Naturally, our internal security issues are not beyond what the police should be able to handle, but any investment made toward increasing the capabilities of the police is like pouring water in a basket, the institution is too bureaucratic and centralized, corruption and inefficiency will overshadow such efforts.

In short term, I think the MOPOL and CTU should be brought together and merged(along with the regular red beret army police) to create an elite military police force that reports to the DHQ, with jurisdiction over internal security. Let the regular military force be left with only their constitutional duties.

I quite understand the rationale behind the CAS actions. But the current trend may lead to heightened inter-service rivalry and overlapping duties that could lead to future problems. Another thing is funding, the already pitiful amount allocated to the NAF annually will be further made sorrowful if we have to start budgeting huge sums from the crumbs for NAF infantry. Considering what it would cost us annually for maintenance, routine equipping, training, salaries and eventually pensions of a vast NAF infantry, I think we should be more cautious.

In any case, I agree that we need more men on ground, not just men, skilled fighting men. If the NAF can provide them, then so be it.

The NA is really not serious, and I hope the President kicks out the current CoAS and put in someone who knows his onions. When he began his administration on his belly, displaying an impressive tally of push-ups,I honestly thought he would do a far more excellent job than his pot-bellied predecessors, however he has proved to be only marginally better. If by now we still have rickety Hilux trucks conveying our troops around sambisa forest, then there is something wrong.

During preliminary investigation, the apprehended suspects confessed to have been involved in kidnapping incidents in the general area, as well as sending their victims to their ring leaders that are based deep in the forest at Ruwan-Godiya.

Consequently, troops further exploited deep into Ruwan-Godiya Forest setting Bandits/Kidnappers hideouts on fire.

Troops continue to dominate the area with patrols, to deny the bandits/kidnappers freedom of action.

@Odunayaw, I get your frustration. Seriously,we have been calling for police reforms for ages, yet nothing. Even the skinny new oga patapata is finding it hard to reform ordinary SARS unit of the police.

About putting the MP under the DoI,well, the nature of the MP is such that it will be drafted into active combat in event of war. So, I don't think bureaucracy will favour placing such a unit under the DoI.

Would be interesting to compare photos of ISWAP/BH person-borne IEDs / suicide vests with these latest 2 images from @ToudaKaka. I reckon the style has changed, arguably become more sophisticated and produced in a less roughshod manner. Reflective of increased ISWAP capability.
