This is for the graduates and people that want to be self employed.

Someone said a mail to me few days ago, that he just graduated and wants to start a plantain/cassava flour business.

I was perplexed and don't know what to say

Don't get me wrong, its a good idea but business wise,it might not be a right business for you at this time.

Do you know the amount it takes to setup a flour business,do you have the capacity, management skills to see it profitable?

You don't have the skills, probably don't have the resources, even if you do,you will waste it because its a terrain you have not pass through before.

Why can't you start from food trading, buying and selling or food retailing and gradually move towards processing

There is also a great opportunity in the food retailing agribusiness.

You can get in touch if you want to explore this area to guide you.

Don't let your head be bigger than your neck

If you don't have the resources, start with what you have and gradually acquire capability to move up to other areas.

President of AFDB, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina said 2 years ago " agribusiness in Africa will reach $1 trillion by 2030,if you are looking to make money, this is the sector to be"

Nigeria population is projected to be third largest in the world after India and China in a decade from now.

It means we have more mouth to feed and opportunity for farmers and agropreneurs to generate income and wealth for themselves.

So this is the best time to keep working, position yourself for this great opportunity

Therefore, roll our sleeves, buckle up and get to work.

Good morning and have a nice day ahead.

Okay.
first, they won't fruit at the time
its like starting all over again.
what you can use to salvage the situation is to start irrigating the remaining surviving ones in the evening till the rainy season

The ones that survive till then is viable but those that didn't survive should be replaced.

Note:
do not irrigate during the morning only in the evening

best of luck.

Never give up!
Re: Hidden Truths About Plantain Farming Business by Lesgupnigeria(m): 6:07pm On Mar 11, 2020
There is no doubt in the fact that our population is growing at a geometric rate creating a huge gap and opportunity for agropreneurs to produce more food and create wealth in the process.
Nigeria will be the third largest population in the world by 2030 lying behind China and India estimated to be about 300 million in numbers.

Looking at the current situation of agric sector in sub Saharan africa, nigeria inclusive
There is no doubt that Nigeria being the most populous nation in Africa, blessed with millions of hectares of land, yet we produced less than what our population can consumed; by about 80% small scale farmers.
Guess what, most of the "less" food produced by this small scale farmers never reach the final consumer
Most are lost due to lack of access to market, poor logistics, poor storage etc

According to Rockefeller foundation,

40% of tuber crop are wasted
25% staple foods and
20% vegetables doesn't get to the final consumers
Most of their efforts are wasted.
Imagine billions of dollar worth of foods lost on the Africa farm that doesnot even get to the market!

We might even reduce hunger for the millions of people who are victims and greatly improve food security

This should tell you that there is money in food marketing and as a prospective farmer/agropreneur,you should take marketing serious so that you don't lose your revenue on the farm.

When starting your farm business, how to see and market should take 80% of your time and 20% takes decision/work on how to produce.
Fortunately, you might not have to worry much about market as you have access to market when you purchase your farmland on our farm estate and join other agropreneurs to feed the nation

Ok.
Paraquat is only active and kill weeds within 12 hours after application and therefore within 1 week new weeds have started growing and regenerating.
The only solution is to use slow acting herbicides like the gramozone or glyphosate but Note that these herbicides can take 2weeks before weeds die off and make sure it does not get in.contact with the plantain.

Wonderful information. Please i just want to try something on a plot of land. what is the quantity to apply on a plot of land. Thanks in advance.

You only need about 150 suckers on a plot.
1 litre of paraquat is okay on a plot
