A 500-level undergraduate of the University of Lagos, Odusami Matthew, has died after slumping at the Biobaku Hostel.

042report learnt that Matthew, a student at the Estate Management Department, was playing football with some of his friends on Friday when he slumped.

He was reportedly rushed to the school’s medical centre where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

Our correspondent was told that the remains of the student had been deposited at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba.

When our correspondent visited the hostel on Monday, one of the residents confirmed that the incident happened around 4pm.

He said, “He stayed in this hostel. Around 4pm, he decided to play football with some of his friends. He was not tackled neither was he with the ball when he collapsed.

“Nobody understood what went wrong with him. He was rushed to the medical centre, but he died on the way. It’s really a shock to us.”

A colleague of the victim, who spoke to our correspondent at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, said Matthew cried that his head was stiff before he died.

“Actually, he had stopped playing. He took time off to rest and sat on the sideline. Suddenly, he started crying that his head was stiff and he could not feel anything again. He slumped shortly after and died,” the colleague, who did not want to be named, said.

A man, who claimed to be Matthew’s close friend, said he spoke with him on Friday, adding that he never had any premonition that he would die suddenly.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the friend said, “He was a nice guy. He was also hard working. He had a strong second class upper grade. I still cannot believe he’s gone. I am grieving and don’t want to say more than that.”

However, the Deputy Registrar and Head of Information Unit, University of Lagos, Mr. Toyin Adebule, said Matthew was playing football at the university’s sports centre, where he slumped and was rushed to the medical centre.

He said, “A student was brought from the sports centre to the medical centre. When he got there, he did not have any sign of life. The director of health centre and other workers there tried to resuscitate him to no avail. He was dead.

“The dean of students’ affairs and other representatives of the school were there. We have reached the family and broken the news to them. Our prayers are with them that God will give them the fortitude to bear the loss.”

Sequel to the recent workshop convened by the Honourable Minister of Education on the modalities for admissions into Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria, the Federal Government hereby approves the following guidelines for admissions:
Approved Guidelines for Admission into Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria - FG, Jamb

presentation of the list of candidates who qualify for screening into individual institution based on the stipulated guidelines by JAMB (find hereby enclosed);
screening should not demand for another test in any form either written, oral or electronic;
candidates are to present Their Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results/Advanced Level (AL) results for verification and clearing purposes;
WAEC, NECO, NABTEB results or equivalent are acceptable as maltriculation requirements;
each candidate is expected to have a minimum of five (5) credits at SSCE including English, Mathematics and any other three (3) relevant subjects to his or her discipline;
any candidate who does not possess the requirements as listed in item four (4) is deemed to have failed the screening process;
the list of qualified candidates awaiting SSCE/AL results can be kept in view (K.I.V) pending the release of their results;
consideration of the recommended list as forwarded by JAMB should be completed within one month from the date of receipt of the list;
any Institution that has a shortfall in the admitted candidates can make-up for candidates from other departments on the institution list;
the screening list has been uploaded on JAMB website –http://www.jamb.org.ng for possible users;
reason (s) for rejection of candidates on the list should be clearly stated with proofs provided alongside; and
the Federal Government has directed that these guidelines should be strictly adhered to without any alteration.

Stanbic IBTC Bank says it is collaborating with Google to train youths and Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises (SMEs) operators in Nigeria on digital skills.
Stanbic IBC amd Google partners on digital inclusion in Nigeria

A statement issued by the bank on Saturday said that the collaboration would facilitate capacity-building for SMEs in the country, adding that beneficiaries would be trained on skills and value of digital marketing.

It said that the training would also help entrepreneurs to strengthen their businesses and support digital education initiatives geared toward job creation.

“By organising the capacity building sessions in different parts of the country, the partners hope to build critical mass of businesses through increased adoption of digital technology and enhance their contributions to economic development,’’ it said.

The bank added that the programme scheduled to kick-off in Lagos and Kaduna on July 19, would also hold in seven other states across the country.

It said that the initiative aimed to digitally empower no fewer than 1,000 SMEs operators in one year.

The statement quoted Mr Obinna Ukachukwu, Head, SME Banking, Stanbic IBTC, as saying that digital technology on empowering youth and stimulating growth of SMEs was imperative for diversification.

Ukachukwu said that the bank had embarked on several capacity-building initiatives in various sectors of the economy, including transport and logistics, trade and finance “to support individuals and businesses’’.

He pointed out that SME was pivotal to economic growth of any nation, and that Nigeria should not be an exception.

He stated that the bank’s collaboration with Google would expose the youth and SME operators to modern and innovative marketing, financial and management skills, using digital technology.

This, according to him, will help them to achieve successes in their endeavours.

“We are quite pleased to partner with Google on this strategic initiative.

“Our ultimate goal is to cause, in the long- term, an exponential growth in the digital technology space, knowing that this is the path to the future, with the youth and SMEs as the main anchors,” he stated.

Mrs Bunmi Banjo, Head of Digital Education, Google Africa, according to the statement, said that the company was happy to collaborate with Stanbic IBTC to provide free digital training to local entrepreneurs.

“With over 97 million online subscribers, Nigeria continues to be one of the highest online populations in the world, and this presents big opportunities for the small and medium business sector.

“We believe that when these SMEs have the right digital skills, they can better leverage the Internet to grow their businesses, create more jobs and boost economic growth in Nigeria,’’ Banjo said.

She added that the collaboration entailed further training focus on general digital skills for proprietors of SMEs, who were between 18 years and 35 years of age.

According to her, the curriculum would address such issues as e-payment and online banking, using digital platforms to grow businesses and hiring and retaining third parties. (NAN)

Ok this grievous atrocity happened in Togo , Lome two days ago.

This man is a Nigerian businessman in that country and was having a relationship with the lady in the picture and pregnancy resulted . He denied the pregnancy and call off the relationship . He took back the motor-cycle he bought for her when the relationship was still rosy .

She couldn't take it , she mobilized her family members plus her kinsmen and they layed ambush for this Nigerian , beat , stoned and burn him to death. ....

My take :

1. If you are living in a foreign country please play by their rules in everything or stay alone .

2.If you impregnate a woman please try and take responsibility or wait till the child is born before you take a position after DNA proofing.

3. When you are in a relationship with a woman or a man , anything you give out should not be taken back . It was given with love and so shall it be .

I call on the Nigerian government to press for redress and that justice should be done . Everyone who partook in this wickedness must be brought to book .Too many Nigerians has been killed arbitrarily in foreign countries and nothing seems to be done . THE TIME TO STOP THIS NONSENSE IS NOW ..IT COULD BE ME AND YOU .

A clergyman of the Evangelical Church of West Africa, Reverend Zakariya, has been killed by attackers suspected to be herdsmen in Nasarawa State.
Three of the killed pastor’s children are said to be in the university.
Zakariya was murdered on Thursday on his farm by yet-to-be-identified assailants in Obi Local Government Area of the state.
According to a Twitter user, @uncanny_sam, who announced the death of the clergyman, Zakariya will be buried on Tuesday.
“My late uncle, Rev. Zakariya was killed Thursday by herdsmen in Obi LGA of Nasarawa State. They attacked him on his farm, cut off his arms and legs; then they chopped his head with machete. I received a call on Thursday evening that my uncle, a pastor with ECWA was killed by Fulani herdsmen.”
The nephew of the murdered pastor in a series of tweets called on the Federal Government and Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, to find the killers of his uncle.
“All I want is justice to be done. Nasarawa State and the Federal Government must find the killers of my uncle. Whoever is close to Governor Al-Makura of Nasarawa State should please inform him that we demand the perpetrators should be brought to book.
“We have become preys that are hunted by marauding beasts in our land. I will keep shouting till justice is done. For how long will we suffer? He has left a very young family; three of his children are currently in the university. No one is saying anything about the clandestine killings by Fulani herdsmen happening almost every day,” he said.
Late Zakariya’s nephew lamented that relevant security agencies were not doing enough to protect innocent citizens from violent attacks by suspected herdsmen.
“No one is saying anything about it, clandestine killing by Fulani herdsmen happens almost every day. Does a life of a Nigerian mean anything to our government? If yes, then Rev. Zakariya deserves justice. Why are we so insecure in our land? When will we be free from the shackles of insecurity?
“The death of Rev. Zakariya must not be in vain. This barbaric and despicable act must stop. I plead with everyone that has re-tweeted and quoted my tweets to please help me demand for justice for Zakariya; his death must not be in vain. Isn’t life sacrosanct anymore?” he stated.
The nephew stated that herdsmen in the state usually kill people for no reason, adding that killing has become a hobby for herdsmen in the state.
“The biggest question is: who will defend us from these marauding beasts? This carnage must be stopped. Your government (Al-Makura) vows to secure our land but we have never been this insecure. Security is one of your cardinal objectives but the security in our land today is unprecedented,” Zakariya’s nephew said on Twitter.

Two years after , it was the Age grade yam festival where the high and mighty come to the village to celebrate . Me and my father was riding past that road that August afternoon in a public transport going to the village for the celebration and red dust covered our faces . The road, plants , bushes , human , cars and everything on that road was covered with red dust . You dare not wear a white shirt when travelling or you will become a native doctor . The road wasn't done even with Ojo our son as a transport minister . Everyone in the vehicle cursed as much as they can . Ojo was cursed badly .

Some poles by, we got to this tiny bridge ' nmiri omeniko' . This bridge was constructed by the old British colonial masters and it was in this bridge that the renown Pastor , Uma Ukpai lost his seven children in a day . Still undone . And after some miles we got to a very large house that is like a palace . This house is arguably the biggest house in that village own by Chief Ojo Madueke except that of Chief Kalu Idika Kalu another former minister of finance . And the curse resumed again.

Three days later he was spraying money in a particular ceremony at the village square . Even in the red dusty street that has been abadon with his shiny wrapper .

It was Orji Uzor Kalu that finally did that road .

Today he died at 71years. I know he might have helped those close to him but he never did anything for the public at large . Because the road he was suppose to do that me and my father plus our villagers knew of him was not done . That's the memory we have of him .

Brothers and sisters , life is sweet and her trappings enchanting when you have money and position . Please try and help people . If you are appointed into an office use it well , we only have limited time on earth . All the glamour and class of chief Ojo has come to an end . Now the legacies he left behind will speak for him .

For me, the only two things I gained from him as my kinsman in power is this English I learnt from him when he wrote one column I read in the dailies in the nineties ' THE QUESSENTIAL GENTLEMAN ' . And how to ride a bicycle in a busy road .
