YES, absolutely. Again what is wrong with that? mind your business. If you get irritated over someone else's application or inquiry then it's time to take a break. Leave nairaland for a while and interact with real people so you can have a clue of other people's diverse backgrounds. Learn to identify what is and what is not your problem to get irked about. I called you out on this the other time.

Deep seated convictions for 'fit' for an undergraduate degree cheesy Are you going to pay for him after the fit?
You need to grow up!

Hi everyone, Can one pay visa fees without booking a date just yet?
Yes. You can't pick a date if you haven't paid.

Hello. I'm entirely new to this trend and new to nairaland. But my quest for success in my upcoming student visa interview has brought me here. Would like to ask the following questions:

Is it compulsory I must take an exam(gmat, toelf, etc) before going for the interview because I never took any exams, so far. If asked, what should I say and telling them I never took an exam but going for my Bsc in computer engineering, is it acceptable.

Secondly, I was delayed previously bcus of my sponsors account which happens to be my uncle, my question is this, if asked, should I say my sponsorship has change to my elder brother, and if yes, what if they asked further, why didn't he sponsor you at first, what should be my response here? Alternatively, can I just say, according to the blue paper given to me, I did not show any strong tie to my country however, that was due to the fact that I was timid being my first time and now I am more confident.

Finally, what is the best answer to "why this course and why study in the US" for a computer engineering student.

Please help a brother with your sincere response.
You must not take a standardized exam. But you have everything to gain by taking it: scholarship opportunity (waivers) and a chance to demonstrate your readiness to the Consular Officers. It is now up to you to decide.

Regarding switch of Sponsor, you see, we are rational beings and that means we have reasons to justify any action we take. It is babies that act on their impulse. Why was your uncle's account dishonoured? You may need to let us know. Why now are you switching? You may like to tell us so we help fine tune your responses. I for one will not prepare you to lie, but I can assist you present your matter more maturely.

Regarding the reason for selecting your choice course and the US, you had your reasons for doing so. Nobody here foisted it on you, so why should we now tell you your reason for doing so. I'm not a psychicgrin

Anyway, let us know what you have and we'll take it up from there.

Hello everyone, I just want to ask this. I got admitted into one of the school in the USA. And I'm getting prepared for my visa interview.. I've reading likely questions such as how many schools did one apply to..
And honestly , I applied to only my admission school.. I didn't try any other.. Does it matter to apply to more than one school? Or what's the motive behind such question ? Or do I have to start applying to some school prior the interview date so as to have something to say regarding that.
You see, interview questions try to test different things all at arriving at a safe conclusion. This is one of those questions that test on frivolity issues. It is not a crime applying to a single school, but you will do well to explain why you applied to just one out of the multitude of others. Once you're able to give lucid reasons, you're cleared on that test.

If you begin to talk about weather, cheap tuition, proximity to a relative and similar frivolities, you are denied straight up.

Please id love for the gurus to evaluate my transcript and tell me where i can improve. Thank you!
You have a great template. Read it thru and thru. And work on your delivery. Be ready for questions that could develop from your responses.

For example, what journal did you read from?
Elucidate on the concept of 'Green and sustainable construction'
...and other questions of sorts.

Work and pray and you'd be good to go.

US Embassy current exchange rate is N370 =$1.
Current F-1 visa fee is $140, which equals to N51,800
F1 has always been pegged at $160. If 370 NGN is now the new exchange rate, then 59,200 NGN may be the latest fee regime.

I feel it is about how one plays one's study plans. I have seen someone who told a Visa officer he isn't coming back to Nigeria as Nigeria does not have adequate equipment to carry out research in Cancer Biology and the VO agreed with him. Above all, it is a chat and one just need be confident about one's responses. Just my thoughts.
I agree quite frankly.
There goes a rider to your stance on this matter- the ability of the candidate to present rational and robust argument during the chat. But for candidates who are unable to sway the argument to their gain, my advice for them- don't mention PhD!

Hello Gurus... Please, I need your input on this:

I got admit + funding for an MS. "I have an intent of progressing to a PhD after my MS before returning to Nigeria"... Is it dope to tell the VO this (when asked plan after study) or will it show migration intent?

Thanks. I await your responses..

Personally, I won't advice you say this since the funding does not cover the PhD program. By reason of logic, you may need to violate your visa conditions to support your next program. Sponsorship would be their primary interest here (since we are not sure how you'll survive the extended stay), and then migration tendencies (just maybe).

hello people, a bank statement to be presented at the embassy should be for how many months, from what duration to what, for instance if visa interview is Dec. 3.
Your statement should cover at least 6 months. You can print 3 days to your appointment.

Actually my reason of stating that I don't know their status is because throughout this year, ever since I got married to my wife, my parents cut contact and relationship with me. They were never in support of the woman I married, thus that's why I have only done intro, and court marriage.

Secondly, before they decided not to return back to Nigeria, my Uncle who's a citizen have agreed to file for them a green card. I don't know what status I will call them considering the fact that I have not been in communication with them for a while now, and I don't know how things are going for them there.

Do you think this genuine reason is enough for the V.O? This is the only reason I have.
Firstly, you need to realise that the advises we dish out here are not perfect and expert advice as most of us may not be Officers. What we do is give logical explanations based on experiences over time and the information candidates present here. Lagosismyhome have advised you to say what you know since your relationship with them is direct. They are not your distant relations.
If you claim not to know about their status, inquire from your uncle. If you feign ignorance about their status on the basis of what you just explained, you may be denied on grounds of misrepresentation or attempt to conceal information.

I am not asking you to tell them everything you just explained now, but tell them what you know about their current status. Be honest and confident about it (as they already know). If you're able to convince them on every other aspect of your application, you will very likely be approved. Good luck!

A decade ago, every school is accepted at the US embassy, except if it is not accredited. And a school that's not accredited will not even issue an I-20 to international students.

The legislative arm better speedy up that age discrimination bill to stop this madness by companies
Let me shock you. Let's say the bill is finally vetoed. The best that will happen is that employers will leave out age criteria on their advertorials, but during the actual recruitment, they'll quietly sift the wheat from the tar. Would it not then be better they even informed the public before hand?
Government should look to address the remote causes responsible for late school enrolments and graduation. In saner climes, students are done with Colleges by 22.

Isn't this the whole point of this thread, to follow a blueprint? While you may have some points, you shouldn't be condescending about it.

Saying people should not apply to schools that accept Nigerians with full waivers and scholarship is being disingenuous on your part.

Nothing wrong in applying to 'certain schools' at all. The worst that could happen is a denied admission.
You need to read between the lines. I have not discouraged anybody from applying, rather I am advising that people eschew laziness. You don't follow my blueprint because it may not suit you. Design yours!

Regarding the bolded, you must learn to choose your words aptly. A faceless forum does not require you to churn out rude remarks behind your keyboard. Let me stop so far.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by 100kobo(m):
Regarding this heated argument, I want to join the fray. You see, the bane of most visa refusals boils down to laziness. I will explain.

Mr A comes here to share his interview success and how he got waivers. Mr B, the lazy opportunist, quickly inquires of Mr A about this 'certain school' and the next thing he applies without carrying out due research. Tell me how Mr B will make it during interview when all he did was apply because somebody else has succeeded there. Most people are simply copycats. And what they fail to understand is that interviews are case by case and conducted on the merits of what each candidate is able to present.

You don't learn how to shoot in the battle field, you learn before the battle. Visas are there for grabs, but you must show yourself qualified. VOs are not silly nor are they there to dance to your whims. Even the lowest ranked of universities/colleges can earn you a visa once you are able to show strong/compelling reasons why you chose them. You don't hear that people have been going to VIU, and you simply apply without your personal reasons and convictions...surely doom awaits you. My point is: any school is good to go, but you MUST show yourself approved thru a diligent research.

Conclusively, it is not how far, but how well. When the journey is ended, what's next for you? US is interested in what you can offer in terms of skills, yes. But this is one place where I know your background history matters a lot. The Yale and Harvard graduates would just knock you off in the labour market because they enjoy the pedigree and corporate network. This is why you must also be selective in your choice of schools. But if you're studying to go back home and compete, that may work. After all, you have a certificate from Amelika grin.

Take your destiny in your hand!

PS: This thread is not here to spoonfeed you, but to give you a lead. Be smart, be proactive, get busy with research.

Hi guys, pls can someone be so kind to assist me with this. Comparing these three schools.

Texas A&M university, Kingsville
Illinois State University
Umas Boston (University of Massachusetts)

Which is the highest and lowest placed schools, considering one is offered admission in all three under the same circumstance, which will the VO more likely to perceive as a good school and which will the VO more likely to feel is the least.

Thanks
Any school approved to issue i-20 can earn you approval. However, some schools have been notorious for allowing 'students' to cross over using their documents only to end up abandoning the program. These escape centres are better known as "visa mills" and approval rates for students into those schools are low.
To the best of my knowledge, those 3 are not visa mills.
