Baba please how do I join such groups, my gre is in few weeks time. Please help, thank you
GRE is not a few weeks preparation exam. Joining those groups at a time very close to your exam MAY be counter productive. This is just an advice, it's entirely up to you to decide.

You shouldn't have mentioned personal savings even if you have $50k in your account. Supposedly you have gotten a GTA that covers your tuition now, na different matter entirely. Pls don't give up, defer the admission and when next you go, mention a strong sponsor other than YOURSELF.
I don't agree with this. He has been working for 3 years. If he mentioned that he has saved up for this program, it is quite in place. I will advice that this candidate gives another shot at the interview and be sure that both statements of account sufficiently covers his i-20 amount with a little extra.

That VO elected to refuse him even without checking his statement to ascertain his readiness. Another VO may be lenient and chose to look at his statements.

Hello gurus in the house,
Please can I still use statement of Account printed 2nd October for interview purpose in December.
I want to know if it is recent enough to be presented to the VO
From a technical standpoint, you can. But I'll advice you get a more recent statement, if possible.

I'm compelled to respond to this:

First part sounds generic, second part not pointed enough

Was your second chance for an impressive answer to the VO, but your answer came out 90% generic (to me). It's a strong point no doubt, but how does it affect you directly??

Was the part in bold necessary? - I don't think so. The experienced ones here should say a thing about this observation of mine...

Switching schools cannot be an issue.
I'm sad for this. Don't give up!
Been away lately. I concur with you.

Guys should you cram for the interview or you should just know your points and let it flow freely? I feel like if I don't cram it and memorize my answers, I might get too tensed and just won't know how to bring my words together. It's less than two weeks to my interview and I really don't know the better one to do
Look at your Questions and Answers and try to make meaning out of it. Try to connect everything like it's an autobiography. You'll be amazed how you'll flow during the interview. It works, believe me.

Memorising details is a sure recipe for failure, especially if you're not gifted in it. I know some badass niggars many years ago during my university days who comfortably memorised proofs of mathematical theorems and reproduced same in the exam hall without any fuss.

If memory gem isn't your thing, please, abort the plan immediately immediatelygrin

well I can't really say why I was , okay so this was how it went
VO: Good morning, please pass me your i-20 and your passport
me: passes my passport but trying to find my i-20 den she says there it is nd I passed it
V.O: why Lincoln University
me: aside their academic excellence, they admit anyone from anywhere without prejudice and this I realized from the rapport I had with a lecturer at the school.. ....VO then cuts in
V.O: why Sonography
me: sonography as a course is alien to us in Nigeria
V.O: sonography is what?
me: alien to us in Nigeria and upon completion of my nysc I worked as a volunteer at a primary healthcare in my community nd dere I saw a lot of defects in the healthline and this spiked an interest in me to further formalise my love for science
V.O: why do you want to spend so much at Lincoln, u know u can actually get this course at a community school
me: I know, but the quality of education I'll get from here I won't be able to get from any other school
V.O: when did you graduate
me: 2014
V.O: when did u serve
me: 2015
V.O: do u have any siblings ( ds I tot to be do u av any siblings in d US)
me: no
V.O: do u av any siblings in the US
me: no
V.O: I'm sorry ,I do not find you eligible for this visa..hands me d blue paper,u'll find d reason for ur denial on that
Sorry about the refusal. But let me quickly observe that you were not ready. You were denied because you couldn't defend your choice of Lincoln University and your Sonography program. It appears to me these selections were handed down to you and not a product of an intense research. You can prove me wrong by working on those two key areas.

You were not denied because Lincoln University is a wrong destination (flagged), as some may want to posit. You were not denied because Lincoln is too cheap or expensive as mooted when they mentioned "spending so much". That question was for emphasis and if you were prepared, you could have rescued the situation at that point. You were refused because you failed the first test on proving "you're a genuine student." There was no point testing if you're financially capable or have sinister immigration intents.

Way Forward: Don't book in a hurry. Do some personal researches about your school and course. Read particularly one or two interview transcript compilations, then you'd be ready to give it another try.

please I was also denied Visa last week though I can't really decipher where I got it all wrong cos the consular officer made a reference to the school fees which was about $21k as well as asked if I had siblings though I confused that for do I have siblings in the US and I answered No
You may like to share a detailed transcript of what transpired, then we can take it up from there. Don't attempt to conceal details if you crave quality inputs.

I just checked their fees. It’s about $61k. Almost 22 million naira yearly minus feeding and medical insurance. I think that’s why u were denied. Even average Americans can’t afford this truly.
He needs help, yet he's concealing details. That's why I haven't commented as yet. VO wouldn't have been screaming that way over $31k+

Well, for the self-employed, you need to identify key areas back home, where your services and training would be applied in solving real-time problems. Your ability to make them key into your long term vision, can save the day.

Please, my interview is scheduled for 3rd of December and here is my transcript for serious criticism. I appreciate as you take your time to go through it.
For starters, let me commend your efforts for attempting to be original in your responses. But let me warn you not to be rattled in the event where these questions are rolled out in ways you didn't expect.

For example, your second question should not be expected should you dispatch the first question in the solid manner you did. The responses on your second question would be useful when answering questions about Why this School/Course.

WHY USM? Your first two bullet points are okay. But I can't say same about the third which sounds rather generic. What is it about the department of Biological Sciences that stands them out: an ongoing research, availability of an enhanced laboratory equipments, curriculum content and what have you. Please, talk in specific terms those appeals in the department that caught your fancy.

STUDY PLAN: You may need to talk about your course structure, duration and core courses here.
By the way, you should already have a research topic and not wait for the so-called committee to sit and select for you.

SPONSORSHIP: Once you are asked about your sponsor, the best response will comprise your sponsor's identity and income source, and an indication of financial awards from the school (if any). You don't need separate questions to deliver these facets separately.

If your sponsor is not your parent or personal funds, you should also prepare to talk about why your sponsor is willing to commit. Usually this will come as a separate question.

Let me stop so far.

I made recommendations based on the claim that you work with Jocereg Ltd. I am surprised you're job status has suddenly changed. You need to be consistent with your responses so that you don't kill your interview. How can you claim to work with Jocereg and also be self employed. I am unable to assist at this time as I am confused.

You should convince them about your intention to return to your current job, and then transit to other companies in the long term. Mixing up these plans may create a certain impression that you don't have a clear cut career goal.

Hello 100Kobo... What is the way forward? I got 50% international Merit Scholarship at that arrived late after my interview on Tuesday. Since my program of study is almost similar Industrial Engineering and Engineering Technology, is it possible to do change of SEVIS ID to ETSU.?
ETSU is a good profile. Without much ado transfer your SEVIS fee to ETSU, and do well to highlight your scholarship award during your next meeting. You can still be approved. Visa decisions are subjective, fortunately or unfortunately.

Your response on Why MBA sounds hackneyed and is replete with grammatical lapses. Leave out those generic aspects and identify the things that meet your appeal for this course. I couldn't see reasons with you in those responses.

I'm also uncomfortable with your response to Why Ashland. Why did you talk about rank here when the school and the course is not top ranked in principle? Please, drop the issue of affordability here and talk about what makes their program a 'high quality' as you claimed. If you're able to justify their high quality of learning, you've earned the score.

As for your plan after the program. Your current job is your best economic tie. You need to let them see how much you value Jocereg Ltd. But talking about your plans for Jocereg and the likes of maxline, Costco in one fell swoop doesn't sure purpose and direction. You may be denied at this point for lacking strong home ties.

Again, on Sponsorship... Why are your two elder sisters sponsoring you? While it is not out of place, be ready to let them in some more regarding your sponsors.

Hi. Can I present a Letter from My Dads Company that states that he will be fully responsible for the Student Loan in my case? I have attended the interview once with a student loan but was denied
I recall I made inputs on your transcript and pointed out that your refusal had nothing to do with sponsorship, but your uninspiring responses. Work on those.

However, going with a cover letter wouldn't be a bad idea.

Hello house I want to make enquiry on WES evaluation of WAEC results . . In my WAEC I registered 9 subjects but wrote 8 and 8 is the number of recorded subject on my WAEC certificate.... Now I want to do my evaluation, will the one I didn't write be counted as F9 for me during evaluation?
You should bother about how to get your result evaluated. What if you were told it will be reckoned as F9, will you discontinue with the evaluation? WES evaluation procedure is enough headache. Don't add to it unnecessarily.

Good morning my family members in the house. I need help based on analysising my interview transcript that was slated on the 13th of Nov. My visa was delayed under Section 214 (b), but still can really fantom what went wrong.
Transcript Review :

V. O: Good morning.
Me : Good morning.
Me: How was your night?
V.O : Fine.
V.O: Pass me your passport and I-20 please.
V. O : Why are you going to the US?
Me: I'm going for my master degree program in Industrial Engineering at Wayne State University, Detroit Michigan.
V. O : Have you travel out of the country before.
Me: Yes. United Kingdom.. I told her that I finish from University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom.
V. O: What year?
Me : 4th of August, 2016.
V. O : Who is sponsoring your program?
Me : I have international students loan from Prodigyfinance, couple with my savings and my uncle will take care of the rest of the bill.
V. O: Have you married?
Me : No.
V. O: I'm sorry you are not qualified for the US Visa at the moment, then she now issue me the blue paper under Section 214 (b).
Me: I said thank you. Have a nice day.

My Question : what could go wrong?. In my DS 160, I filled all the informations needed. I had 10 years working experience, though my career trends has been working and studying concurrently since 2008. I had my ND and HND in Nigeria and my BEng. in the UK, which I completed 2016.

Please help : Lagosismyhome, 100Kobo, and the rest.
What can I do? I have paid another Visa fee already to rebounce back but my constraint is on the available date for those who have been refuse visa within two months is 11th of Jan. Whereas my class starts 7th of Jan. I need help. Thanks.
Student visa rule does not permit working and schooling except in certain circumstances. They may have analysed your submissions and passed their verdict on you as lacking sponsorship capacity. The fact that you're taking a student loan for your intending program further confirmed their prognosis.

You were easily denied on grounds of sponsorship.

PS: I have not said that it is wrong to take student loans. Viewer should do well to read in between the lines.

Hello Gurus,

I have got a question. My school starts January 9th. Interview dates available: Lagos Dec 31st, Abuja Jan 3rd.

If I pull the emergency option and request for early Dec... Will my request be granted or should I just chill and keep checking for earlier dates? Have anyone been in my shoes and what was the outcome??

PS: I know of the 60 days rule but I have also seen post here on this trend of those that made the request and got denied.

Thanks a lot. I await your response

The emergency option would be your best bet. It is unlikely you'll get an earlier date seeing that we are in the season of student interviews. The rush is usually crazy.

Even though you won't be violating any rule by going with the same document, if it were possible, I'd advice you print a new one. Sponsorship letter may be necessary if your sponsor is different from your parents. You may like to fasten it to your account statement.

Just look at how people are rendering selfless service in order to save lives. Here in Nigeria it is the other way round. The average Nigeria man will think of how to benefit and enrich himself in such circumstance. China rice meant for IDP comes to mind.
I don't agree. I read in the news recently of a man who died while trying to save more drowning children. It happened in Bayelsa or so. Let's be patriotic enough to also celebrate our own.
