sonofElElyon: Kereokwu: Are you saying there aren't several businesses abroad willing to invest and establish factories in Anambra if given the right investment climate Must you risk state funds for this I don't need to mention any particular one. Check previous predictions on nsempa. Or does the governor not have access to investment advisors? You are turning this into a political argument bro.. |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Dum20: 11:01am On Jul 27, 2022 |
sonofElElyon: Hello Bro, I am responding to you not to have a political discussion but investment discussion. Why do you think past presidents beg for foreign investments? Even politicians boast about bringing in foreign investors this is because the best investors are the ones that come in to build factories and employ labor. You are doing your assessment using the wrong metrics. For example: 1. The brewery had to buy land-- Land owners have made money and will feed their family, cloth their family, pay school fees, hospital bills, data, power supply, the economy will be good. 2. The brewery has to be built --- Engineers, technicians, labours will be employed these will also buy food, house, pay bills stimulating the economy. 3.Contractors has to supply goods and services to the brewery ---> Contractors and their family get to feed, go to school, houses will be built in and around Anambra. These category of people will pay taxes to the government, the goverment makes money for every money this category of people spend. I can confidently tell you that Anambra government has made back the money they spent on the brewery and is still making money from the investment. In 2020 Zenith bank price went as low as N11 while some people bought it at N20 with hindsight are going to say an investment in zenith bank at N20 is a bad investment? The responsibility of every government is to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and pay taxes and that is what the man did. The focus was not share price and dividend. The returns from dividend is miniscle when compared to other returns on investment. 19 Likes 2 Shares |

sonofElElyon: Oga, you are very funny. You ask someone to bring his money and you do not bring part of your money to give the investor confidence that you are serious? I am sorry to say you are speaking from a position of ignorance. Do not take it as an insult. I am telling you that the government has recovered the money the put into that brewery and are still making money from it. I am talking and analysing an investment I am not talking politics. I am trying to show you how it is a wise investment but it seems you have closed your eyes to it. That brewery exists and still produces drinks. 12 Likes 1 Share |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by sonofElElyon: 11:15am On Jul 27, 2022 |
Dum20: Okay. We have agreed to disagree. Funny enough Obi focused all the time during the last election on returns on the investment like i have done... however you chose to widen the benefits bracket and indices.. which is fine.. i said before that there are always foreign companies willing to establish factories given the right investment climate which essentially is the job of the governor to provide. He didn't need to invest state funds to achieve that. That's the point! Zenith isn't on all fours with international breweries bro.. in every material particular.. EPS, dividend percentage yield vis a vis price etc. Even at current price it's a super deal ! Anyway we have agreed to disagree |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Dum20: 11:20am On Jul 27, 2022 |
sonofElElyon: Please what is he supposed to invest state funds in? Are you aware that the Lagos state government is building a rice mill at Ikorodu? Are you aware that Lagos state government is part owners of BRT buses? Do you want me to list investments governments have made? Please if you have the time go through Intebrews annual statements, check the taxes they have paid since inception, also see if you will find the portion of the taxes that go to Anambra government and see if it was a wise investment or not. Have a lovely day. Let us continue sharing knowledge. 3 Likes 1 Share |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by sonofElElyon: 11:22am On Jul 27, 2022 |
Dum20: Funny you. You are the ignorant one.. I repeat.. there are many companies willing to invest in Nigeria without govt putting in money. Several foreign companies doing business in Nigeria without government investment. You are ignorant of the fact that our population alone is a motivating factor. Tired of this discussion. Hold on to your subjective opinion. You are clearly biased. God bless |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by sonofElElyon: 11:29am On Jul 27, 2022 |
Dum20: You continue to baffle me.. that rice mill is owned by lagos state. BRT again isn't on all fours with inter breweries. They didn't buy into another company's shares.. no price fluctuation of shares. Safe investment because again there's the population in lagos to consume the products. If you choose to buy shares then you are looking at returns on investment (Obi always emphasised that during last election please). Regarding the tax inter breweries pays, are you saying foreign companies in Nigeria without government investment don't pay tax?? If a governor provides good investment incentives and climate foreign companies will invest without govt putting in funds ! |

sonofElElyon: Oga, Please do not feel offended or insulted in any i say you do not like it is not my intention to. I am just discussing business and investment. On the bolded, Lagos is the majority share holder. There are other shareholders to the Rice Mill, lagos does not own them 100%. Lagos government does not own BRT 100%, there are other shareholders There is nothing wrong if a government owns a business 100%. Have a lovely day. There is price fluctuation in the price of the Rice Mill shares and BRT shares this is because they do not make the same revenue every year. What you will say is that the shares are not listed on the NSE so we do not see the price fluctuations. When you put money anywhere you should look for return on your investment. It must not be cash or dividend, it could be good will and well being of the society. Like building of roads and schools by governemt, the return on investment is not cash or dividend. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Pls as at the time PO left office more than 8years ago, how much was the said investment. If the new managers felt it was bad decision why didn't they reduce or liquidate. The same country that lots of firms where moving their factories to neighboring countries, obviously you don't know the economic and security implication of that. My grandmother would say 'when person talk you go know e level of reasoning'. Citation of industries does not just have economic benefits but security as well. If the billions wasted in trader money and school feeding program was invested in toyota establishing factory in Nigeria, imagine the benefits. sonofElElyon: 8 Likes 1 Share |

Thank you for your incisive analysis. It is funny how an investment has been reduced to fluctuating share prices. The investment was actually around 2007 when the business was Intafact Breweries Ltd, which later merged with Pabod Breweries (Rivers State) and Inernational Breweries in 2017 to be the current International Breweries ( a much bigger enterprise). @Dum20, granted there is nothing essentially wrong if government invests and make profit. However, you might wish to recall that investing is not actually the business of government. You might also wish to note that the primary responsibility of government is to provide enabling environment for business to thrive, especially in provision of necessary infrastructure and social amenities like good roads, electricity, security, low interest loans/micro finance for small and midium scale industries and so on. When government does it's own part, entrepreneurs from home and abroad would be naturally attracted to invest. I think that is the point SonofElElyon is trying to make. 4 Likes |
