Akwa is mostly sourounded by the Igbos and could had shared some cultural aspect in common. But I hadly heard much of the drinking the corpse bath-water in my state but for seizure of the decease husband properties, so rampant as it is, I commend the state government.

In 2001, the Government of Enugu State passed The Prohibition of Infringement of a Widow's and Widower's Fundamental Rights Law, 2001-A Law to Make it Unlawful to Infringe the Fundamental Rights of Widows and Widows, and for Other Related Matters (WIN NEWS Spring 2002; Widows' Rights International n.d.). Subsection 1 f) of this law specifically forbids forcing a widow to drink the water used to wash her husband's corpse (WIN NEWS Spring 2002). To publicize the law, the Widows Development Organisation, assisted by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), has published an explanatory guide (Widows' Rights International n.d.). According to a report by the project coordinator of Women's Rights Watch - Nigeria, "three states have passed laws against punitive widowhood rites, Enugu, Edo and Oyo state" (Rufarm 2003). However, the report states that despite these laws, the mourning rites continued to be practised in these states in 2003 (ibid

A widow can shave her hair in honor of her late husband,that is not ill treatment. But drinking contaminated corpse water is unthinkable.

check your fact well. But I agree with you. Akwa Ibom is very backward in terms of:
1. Not destroying herself
2. Not delivering devidends of democracy to her people
3. Allowing her people to be illiterate, thanks to the free and compulsory education and the Ibom e-library
4. Not bringing development only on paper
5. Etc

2. Ritual in Which a Widow Drinks the Water Used to Clean Her Husband's Corpse

Sources from 2010 to 2012 indicate that the ritual in which a widow drinks the water used to clean her husband's corpse continues to be practiced in various locations and among various groups in Nigeria, including:

Edo State (Historian 5 Oct. 2012);
Delta State (Delta State 2010);
some eastern states of Nigeria (Leadership 27 Aug. 2011);
the southeast of Nigeria (Onyekuru 2011, 356);
among the Igbo ethnic group (Samuel 2009; Researcher 5 Oct. 2012); and
among the Yoruba ethnic group (Aransiola 2010).

However, some sources suggest that this ritual is no longer as prevalent as it was in the past

NOTHING IS WASTED. IT ALL TRANSFORMS. THE POO OF 7 BILLION PEOPLE WHEN FLUSHED IN THE TOILET RETURNS TO THE SEA AND FROM THAT SAME SEA IS WHERE YOUR WATER SUPPLY COMES FROM BUT IT IS TREATED. I said this is a cultural practice. It is not a religious one.

however the practices of the muslims is ordained by their religion!

I have ancestorial homes in Abia, Enugu and most especially Ebonyi. I know all their respective cultures and one of them is NOT drinking corpse water. So, I get confused when folks think all Igbos practice such dirty culture.

Good move Akwa-Ibom.
