Kaduna Governor Missing in Action While Residents
Pick Up After Deadly Blast
April 9, 2012 - 17:03 — siteadmin
caption:
Governor Patrick Yakowa
By Saharareporters, New York
The explosion damaged the nearby All Nations
Christian Assembly Church and the ECWA Good News
Church as churchgoers worshipped at an Easter
service, the possible target of the bomber.
Witnesses said it appeared the explosive-laden car
attempted to go into the compound of the churches
before it detonated, but was blocked by barriers in
the street and was turned away by a security guard
as police approached.
By tradition, Nigerian governors usually visit scenes
of disasters and hospitals to comfort the victims and
their families. Since the Easter bombing, however,
relations and associates of victims at the scene and
hospitals waited in vain in anticipation of Yakowa’s
visit.
Suspicions are now growing that the governor and
his wife are not even in the country. According to a
tip received by SaharaReporters, Patrick Yakowa, 63,
and his wife were sighted in United Kingdom last
week, allegedly on a routine medical check-up. It
was also gathered at the Nigerian High Commission
in London that he is likely to be in United States to
meet with his god-father, Vice President Namadi
Sambo who is billed to arrive in the US to meet with
US Vice President Joe Biden.
A source in Kaduna also averred that Yakowa left
without formally writing the local parliament, made
up of mostly his PDP cronies and also without any
announcement to the people of the state as to the
whereabouts of the governor.
Several calls to Secretary to the State Government,
Lawal Abdullahi were not returned by press time.
Only the Deputy Governor, Mukhtar Yero, Director-
General of National Emergency Management Agency
(NEMA) Mr. Sani Sidi and Commissioner of Police
were sighted at the scene on Sunday. No other
prominent Northern official residing in Kaduna was
seen commiserating with the victims and their
relations.

EducationCBN Donates ₦500M To University of Agriculture In Abeokuta (UNAAB) by 13volts(op): 6:06pm On Apr 03, 2012
The University of Agriculture in Abeokuta
(UNAAB) has received a N500 million special
grant from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)
to upgrade its facilities. Prof. Olufemi Balogun, Vice Chancellor of the institution, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of
Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Dutse, Jigawa.
He said that he was in Dutse to announce the conferment of a doctorate degree in agriculture on the state governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido. He said that the donation would encourage the university to
improve on its academic and other relevant programmes aimed at making the nation self-sufficient in food production.
``It will also enable the university to maintain its leading position as the best university of agriculture, not only in Nigeria, but in the whole of the African continent.
``The University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, is ranked, not only as the best university in Nigeria but the whole of Africa and that is why CBN gave us this money to boost our academic programmes as well as upgrade our facilities,’’ he said. The VC said that more priority would be given to the
improvement of courses like veterinary medicine,
agricultural engineering, agricultural economics and
agronomy, among others. Balogun said that the grant would also be used for general renovation and erection of more structures in the university. NAN reports that the 20th convocation of the university comes up on May 5. Apart from Gov Lamido, other recipients of the university’s honourary awards are Mrs Obiageli Ezekwesili, the Vice President of the World Bank (Africa Region) and Chief Jonathan Olopade, an elder statesman and business magnate in Abeokuta, Ogun.

on August 5, 2004, Nigerians woke up to the horrid news that the Nigerian Police had recovered as many as 20 human skulls, 50 corpses, some still fresh and
headless and in their coffins. Thirty suspects were also arrested including the priests of two of the shrines - Ogwugwu Isiula and Ogwugwu Akpu, [Other shrines are Ogwugwu Mmili, Ogwugwu Apunama, Ogwugwu Ahaya Afa, Ogwugwu Idigo and Ogwugwu Idimgo in various hamlets strewn around Abakaliki.] The 80-man-strong
police operation led by the Commander of the Special Anti- Robbery Squad (SARS) in the state, CSP Mr. Gabriel Haruna and the state commissioner of police, Mr. Felix Ogbaudu. The case blew open at the specific instance of a modern-day Anoruo, but this time not a policeman but a Hare Krishna convert posing as a medicine-man.
