Actress Yvonne Okoro has explained why most celebrities are still single. This is coming after she slammed a journalist, Kofi Okyere Darko, for claiming that men prefer to marry quiet and not well known women over the societal and loud ones. According to the 36-year-old single Nigerian-born Ghanaian actress, a lot of female celebs find it difficult finding true love cos most men are either coming because of their fame or money. Yvonne Okoro said “A good number of celebs are single because they are confused as to who to accept in their life. You see, you are not sure if the person is coming in because of your fame and money or the person wants to be with you because of real love”. Men don't have the courage to walk up to me - Actress Yvonne Okoro Speaking about her own love life in the interview with showbiz, the actress said: “The issue is men don’t have balls to come forward to ask me out because they think I am already hooked or perhaps I am very high maintenance. Also, I may still be single because most people think celebrities are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing partners but that is a very wrong perception.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/men-dont-have-courage-to-walk-up-to-me.html

HEDA: It’s a clear signal that it is no longer business as usual for oil companies in Nigeria By Bayo Akinloye The Royal Dutch Shell and Eni, along with a number of their senior executives, will on Monday face criminal charges in Milan, Italy, for alleged aggravated international corruption for their role in a $1.1bn deal for a Malabu Oil’s OPL 245. This was made known in a statement yesterday by the international corruption watchdog, the Global Witness. It noted that no company as large as Royal Dutch Shell or senior executives of a major oil company had ever stood trial for bribery offences. Eni’s Chief Executive Officer, Claudio Descalzi; former CEO, Paolo Scaroni; and Chief Operations and Technology Officer, Roberto Casula, are also standing trial alongside four former Shell staff, including Malcolm Brinded, former Executive Director for Shell’s Upstream International Operations and two former MI6 agents employed by Shell. “The prosecution by the Milan public prosecutor was triggered by a complaint filed in autumn 2013 by Global Witness, The Corner House, Re: Common and Nigerian anti-corruption campaigner, Dotun Oloko. The case had also been investigated in Nigeria and the United States following the groups’ complaints. Public prosecutors in the Netherlands are also investigating the case,” the statement said. Speaking about the coming landmark trial, Barnaby Pace of the Global Witness said: “This trial should signal a turning point in the way the oil industry has operated for far too long. Some of the most senior executives of two of the biggest companies in the world could face prison sentences for a deal struck under their watch. Shell has recently accused one of these former executives of taking kickbacks in a separate Nigerian deal.” Speaking on the latest development, the Chairman Human and Environmental Development Agenda, (HEDA) Lanre Suraju, said: “This trial is a clear signal that it is no longer business as usual for oil companies in Nigeria. It’s time justice is served.” Casula, who will also stand trial in Milan over the OPL 245 case, took a leave of absence from the company in April. He had told Reuters that because of the recent allegations made against him, he had decided to take a temporary leave of absence from work. “My primary objective is to fully and promptly address these allegations and cooperate to the fullest extent with the judicial authorities,” he had stated. For years, Shell had claimed that it only paid the Nigerian government for the OPL 245. But after the joint investigations of Global Witness and the United Kingdom investigative journalism group, Finance Uncovered, Shell confessed it had dealings with “convicted money launderer and former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Dan Etete”. Global Witness claimed that Etete had awarded the OPL 245 oil block to his secretly owned company, Malabu, while serving as oil minister. The case against Eni and Shell brought by the Milan public prosecutor alleged that $520 million from the deal was converted into cash and intended to be paid to the then Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, members of the government and other Nigerian government officials. The prosecutor further alleged that money was also channeled to Eni and Shell executives with $50 million in cash delivered to the home of Eni’s then Head of Business for Sub-Saharan Africa, Casula. “This is not a case involving a few rotten apples. The evidence points to systemic corruption – from the top down. In this case, Italy has championed the rule of law over abusive corporate power,” Nick Hildyard of Corner House said in the statement. The statement added: “Spokespeople for Shell have referred Global Witness to the company’s statement following the company’s indictment, ‘We are disappointed by the outcome of the preliminary hearing and the decision to indict Shell and its former employees. We believe the trial judges will conclude that there is no case against Shell or its former employees’.” Meanwhile, Eni has said in a statement on its website regarding the case that the trial “will give the opportunity to Eni to fully defend its position and to provide full evidence of the correctness of the actions taken with respect to the OPL 245 transaction.” Regarding the allegations against Eni’s CEO, the company said: “Eni’s Board of Directors has reaffirmed its confidence that the company was not involved in alleged corrupt activities in relation to the transaction. The Board of Directors also confirmed its full confidence that chief executive Claudio Descalzi was not involved in the alleged illegal conduct and, more broadly, in his role as head of the company. Eni expresses its full confidence in the judicial process and that the trial will ascertain and confirm the correctness and integrity of its conduct.” On March 28, 2018, a Shell statement sent to Global Witness had said: “Shell filed a criminal complaint with the Dutch authorities because we suspect a crime may have been committed against Shell by a former employee in relation to the sale of Oil Mining Lease (OML) 42 in Nigeria in 2011. Based on what we know from an internal investigation, we suspect this is a case of possible kickbacks, related to the actions of a former employee who left Shell more than three years ago. The individual in question is Peter Robinson, then VP Commercial Sub-Saharan Africa.” Shell also had added “that based on what we know today, the OML 42 issue is unrelated to the OPL 245 settlement.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/malabu-oil-trial-of-shell-eni-ceo-other.html

The Oyo State Government on Thursday warned groups and individuals against causing trouble capable of disrupting Saturday’s local government election and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Local government congress in the state. Executive Assistant, Political to Governor Abiola Ajimobi of the state, Dr. Morohunkola Thomas in a statement sent MC EBISCO, disclosed that security operatives had been put on red alert to ensure peaceful conduct of both exercises. Thomas said that the warning became necessary “following the fresh plans by dissident groups and their sympathisers within the All progressives Congress to cause mayhem on Saturday”. While assuring residents of hitch free exercises, Thomas remarked that necessary security arrangements have been put in place to protect lives and property and to ensure that residents exercise their franchise without let or hindrance. According to him, latest intelligence had revealed that the members of the Unity Forum were planning to use their thugs to unleash terror on innocent electorate and loyal members of the APC. He said that the government appealed to all citizens, including the self-styled Unity Forum to embrace peace and allow the elections to hold in a peaceful atmosphere in the overall interest of the state and sanctity of democracy. Thomas said “The government has put security operatives on red alert to ensure the safety of election officials and voters. It has therefore become necessary to warn groups and individuals bent on fomenting trouble on Saturday to have a rethink. “The law of the land is no respecter of anybody, no matter his or her position in the society. As leaders in their own right, those crying blue murder should rise above pettiness and join hands with the government and our great party. “The government is using this opportunity to caution all political parties, including APC and their followers against any act of violence before, during and after the local government election and party congresses. The full weight of the law will be visited on troublemakers without discrimination. “The government wishes to tell the public that an earlier interim injunction stopping the LG election had been vacated by a Federal High Court, Ibadan, thus clearing obstacles before the conduct of the election.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/steer-clear-of-lg-election-congress-oyo.html

A Federal High Court in Lagos has granted fresh interim orders to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to seize 8.4 million dollars (N3.02 billion) and about N7.4 billion found in bank accounts linked to a former First Lady, Patience Jonathan. The EFCC secured the order by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun through an ex parte application (without notice) on April 20. EFCC had earlier failed in its bid to get the funds permanently forfeited to the Federal Government on April 13. Justice Olatoregun had dismissed the application by the anti-graft agency following objection by the defence counsel, Mr Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN). In the new interim order, EFCC joined as defendants Patience Jonathan, Globus Integrated Services Ltd, Finchley Top Homes Ltd, Am-Pm Global Network Ltd, Pagmat Oil And Gas Ltd and Magel Resort Ltd and Esther Oba. After issuing the interim forfeiture orders, Justice Olatoregun ordered the EFCC to “publish same in the Punch Newspaper and any other major national dailies for interested parties to show cause why a final order should not be made. She adjourned the case until May 11. In its application before the court, the EFCC claimed that its investigations revealed that the funds found in the bank accounts linked to Patience emanated from the coffers of Bayelsa. It said the funds were moved at a time when the former First Lady served as a permanent secretary in one of the ministries in the state. An investigator with the EFCC, Huleji Tukura, who deposed to a supporting affidavit, said Patience first opened a bank account and then “procured” a former aide to former President Jonathan, Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, to fund the account with “proceeds of unlawful activities.” The commission urged the court to grant the order as prayed. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/efcc-gets-fresh-order-to-seize-n74bn.html

Popular Nollywood actress, Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha has revealed how her mum adopted an unusual disciplinary measure to keep her in check. She said her mum never used cane but used every other thing at her disposal at any given moment – including hands, slippers and pestle – to mete out discipline. The beautiful thespian disclosed this in an interview published by New Telegraph on Saturday. Speaking about memories of her mum, Chukwuka-Akpotha said, “It’s going to be five years that she passed away on May 22, I miss everything about her. She was my best friend. She didn’t use cane on me. She used hands, pestle, slippers and so on. She was a ‘leftie’ and I kept forgetting all the time and expecting the slap from the right hand while slaps landed on my face from the left. She went to her grave with 90 percent of my secrets. That was how close I was to my mum. She was practically my backbone. She did Omugo with me when I had my first child for almost a year. There’s a proverb from the Igbos that says, the day you lose your mum is the day you lose your god. I’ve been thrown in the open but I believe she’s an angel, she sees better now and she’s fighting for me.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/mom-died-with-my-secrets-chioma-chukwuka.html

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, has called on some state governments to take a critical look at some policies and law being implemented in their states and possibly make a review of them in order to resolve crises bedeviling the country. He insisted that certain policy and law being implemented in some states needed to be reviewed to give everyone a sense of belonging. Buratai stated this in Ugba, the headquarters of Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, where he undertook an on-the-spot assessment tour of destroyed-communities invaded by Fulani herdsmen. He added that some inter-tribal fight is also fuelling the crisis in Nigeria, stressing that if this policy and law is fundamentally reviewed, it would enhance securities across the country. The army chief also stated that the army would deploy more troops to cover the areas prone to crisis in the state, particularly those communities located along the riverbank and shared boundary with other states. According to him, a place like Anyibe in Ayilamo, Logo council area that shares boundary with Taraba and Nasarawa States would be reinforced with the troops to guarantee the security and safe returns of the people already displaced. He said the lack of effective mobility on water route and other roads have continued to hampered troops to quickly move in and respond to cases of attack, noting that both the state and local government area needed to work out modalities for the provision of rural roads and other social amenities so as to enhance emergency and quick operations. “The water route is what we are looking at very critically. I wish it can be improved. Already, there is a planning committee on ground from the defence headquarters who are working on this, and there are those of us that have been brought in for deployment in the water. “But as I said earlier, the overall security will depend on the number of factors. Everybody is coming to play his role especially the state government, as well as the security agencies and the local government. The state and council areas has their roles in the provision of roads and other social amenities. They are quite fundamental and l hope they will look at it and see how they can improve on the terrain in terms of movement and provision of roads. You can see how difficult the terrain is for us to get into the affected areas in Anyibe, Ayilamo,” Buratai explained. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/buratai-army-will-secure-nigeria-better.html

A chieftain of the National Democratic Coalition, NDC, Dr. Amos Akingba, has blamed the British for the underdevelopment of the country. He said at independence, the colonial masters handed over the country to the Fulani, who according to him, naturally do not like development. He spoke at a symposium organised on Thursday by the Magodo Associates, with the theme, “Nigeria: Which way forward?” held at the Afe Babalola Auditorium, University of Lagos. “The Fulani were the ones the British gave Nigeria to as an estate . From independence, they rigged the election in favour of the caliphate. “They gave it to the one who does not want modernisation or modernity. In fact, when we were going too fast for them, they invented Boko Haram. “For as long as all this continue to happen, so long will there be retrogression,” Akingba said. Akingba added that the delay by President Muhammadu Buhari to form his cabinet after he was sworn in was part of the script to slow Nigeria down. “They said Buhari was a bit late in forming his cabinet; he’s happy. Why should he rush?” Akingba said. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/akingba-gives-reasons-buhari-delayed-in.html

Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, retd, Thursday, warned against any move to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari. Gowon said doing so would not augur well for the nation’s fledging democracy. The former Head of States said this in Abuja on Thursday while playing host to members of the Northern Leaders and Stakeholders Assembly, NLSA. He said that disagreements remain vital components of a democracy, but maintained that “such disagreements could be handled differently without necessarily taking the impeachment option.” Gowon said this against the backdrop of the submission of a report on motion for the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari over the purchase of $496 million Tucano Aircrafts without legislators’ approval. He said, “It may be too early in the day to start impeaching Presidents in Nigeria. Otherwise, there is no President that will not get impeached because of these interest groups. He called on the different groups in the North to “come together to project a common front” adding that “too many groups could send wrong signals to other parts of the country.” “We need to come together as a people. The Arewa Consultative Forum, Northern Elders Forum and the Northern Leaders and Stakeholders Assembly should come together or we would end up polarising the North,” he warned. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/496m-tucano-gowon-speaks-on-move-to.html

The senator representing Rivers East District in the National Assembly, Andrew Uchendu, has stated that Governor Nyesom Wike is at war with his conscience. He said Wike betrayed his benefactor, Rotimi Amaechi, a former Rivers governor and current Minister of Transportation. Uchendu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday in Port Harcourt stated this in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Solomon Okocha. The federal lawmaker described as shocking, the decision of Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to work against Amaechi who facilitated his re-election as chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government council, made him chief of staff, Government House, Port Harcourt in 2007 and recommended him to the then President Goodluck Jonathan for ministerial appointment in 2011. Wike, through Rivers Commissioner for Information and Communications, Chief Emma Okah, had alleged that Uchendu, a three-term former member of the House of Representatives, was at war with his conscience over the sack of Senator George Sekibo of PDP by the Court of Appeal. The Rivers governor also condemned the decision of Uchendu not to accept his gift of a brand new, 2017 model of Toyota Land Cruiser Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), which other members of the National Assembly from Rivers state recently accepted, to facilitate their jobs and positively project the image of the Niger Delta state. However, the representative of Rivers East senatorial district stated that he had not been officially informed of the allocation of SUV by Wike’s administration. Uchendu said: “I am at war with my conscience over my electoral victory, because the same judiciary that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to withdraw the certificate of return from George Sekibo of the PDP, and immediately gave it to me, having won majority of the lawful votes cast during the December 10, 2016 rerun, was the same institution that declared Wike governor of Rivers, even after the Supreme Court described the 2015 governorship election in the state as a theatre of war. “If there is anybody who is fighting with his conscience, then it should be Wike, who after so many years of eating from the same plate with his former master, Amaechi, turned around and betrayed him like the Biblical Judas Iscariot, simply because of inordinate political ambition. After treating the former Rivers governor in such a manner, Wike has no moral right to talk about who has conscience or not. “Wike’s conscience is also troubling him, because the six police officers, who he used to invade the Rivers East collation centre, to make sure that I was not declared the winner of the re-run election, have all been dismissed from service. The sack of the 23 INEC officials, who confessed to have received N360 million from Wike to rig the polls must be a terrible burden on Rivers governor’s conscience. “It is unfortunate that Wike, who did not contest any election with me, has continued to wail on behalf of my opponent. This is simply a case of one crying more than the bereaved. If Wike is not satisfied with the judgment of the appellate court, he should get ready to meet me in the field, if I eventually get the ticket of my party to run in 2019. “As at today, no official of the Rivers State government has informed me of any vehicle allocated to me by Wike’s government. My written request to the Rivers governor over four months ago for a courtesy visit and a reminder a month ago were met with cold silence. So, saying that I refused to accept the SUV from Wike is an attempt to blackmail me. “I wish to advise Wike to stop fighting me, because I believe that the time is ripe to make peace for the greater good of Rivers State. Wike knows that I have the capacity to make peace happen. Fortunately, Rt. Hon. Amaechi has consented to my proposal for reconciliation, peace and development in Rivers State. Wike should take a cue from the Transportation Minister, by first responding positively to my request for a courtesy visit.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/why-wikes-conscience-is-troubling-him.html

More than 60 people were killed in twin suicide bombings in Mubi, Adamawa state on Tuesday. Two local residents who attended funerals of the victims revealed this to AFP. Suicide bombers killed dozens of people at a mosque and a market in northeast Nigeria on Tuesday, in a twin attack bearing the hallmarks of Islamist insurgents Boko Haram. One Muhammad Hamidu, said: “I took part in the burial of 68 people. More bodies were being brought by families of the victims.” Another, Abdullahi Labaran, said: “We left 73 freshly dug graves where each victim was buried.” The blasts, said to have been carried out by young boys, happened shortly after 1:00 pm (1200 GMT) in Mubi, some 200 kilometres (125 miles) from the Adamawa state capital, Yola. Imam Garki, from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said a joint assessment with the police and Red Cross found that 26 people were killed and 56 were injured, 11 of them critically. They were transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Yola for treatment. But a medical source at the Mubi General Hospital said they had received 37 bodies, while a rescue worker involved in the relief operation said he counted 42 dead and 68 injured. “These I saw with my own eyes. We were counting as they were being taken,” said Sani Kakale. Two local residents who attended funerals for the victims said the death toll was much higher — and could climb further. “Before I left the cemetery I took part in the burial of 68 people. More bodies were being brought by families of the victims,” said Muhammad Hamidu. “I think this is the worst attack Mubi has ever witnessed. The human loss is unimaginable.” Abdullahi Labaran added: “We left 73 freshly dug graves where each victim was buried. There are still unclaimed bodies at the hospital. Conflicting death tolls are not unusual in Nigeria. The authorities have also previously played down casualty figures. Suspicion for the attack immediately fell on Boko Haram, the jihadist group whose quest to establish a hardline Islamic state in northeast Nigeria has left at least 20,000 dead since 2009. Mubi has been repeatedly targeted in attacks blamed on Boko Haram since it was briefly overrun by the militants in late 2014. Nigeria’s government and military have long maintained that the Islamic State group affiliate is a spent force and on the verge of defeat. But there has been no let-up in attacks in the northeast, particularly in Borno state, adjacent to Adamawa, which has been the epicentre of the violence. Last Thursday, at least four people were killed when suicide bombers and fighters attempted to storm the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, raising fresh questions about security. Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has been in the United States this week and met his US counterpart Donald Trump, who pledged more support in the fight against Boko Haram. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/new-details-emerge-as-60-die-in-adamawa.html

The coalition of civil society groups under the aegis of Northern Youths Coalition for Justice and National Orientation has slammed president Muhammadu Buhari and his anti-corruption war, saying his role in the sack of Acting Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA Ambassodor Mohammed Dauda was questionable. The group, said the dismissal of Dauda following mere allegations without thorough investigation was grossly unjust. Briefing newsmen in Kaduna through its convener, Comrade Abdullahi Rabiu, chairman of the group accused the presidency of being responsible for the entire saga, which led to the illegal dismissal of the most senior Director of the NIA. Rabiu wondered why Buhari, an avowed anti-corruption fighter would allow the controversial $44M NIA funds recovered from Amb Oke whose appointment was terminated to finally end up in the custody of those individuals hell bent on looting it. The group also lambasted the presidency for not taking the allegation made by the embattled director general against certain government officials seriously in national interest rather than resorting to dismissing the director. He said, ‘It is on record that Amb Dauda fought corruption at NIA gallantly and rejected all enticement and reward for confirmation as substantive Director General by disgruntled elements who wanted to plunder the $44M NIA funds in his custody if he had succumbed and cooperated. “Instead of being rewarded and honoured, he was framed up by the same people and dismissed from work. This the greatest injustice that is despicable and unimaginable, the coalition said. “It is also the height of injustice and oppression which symbolizes dictatorship and tyranny that is unacceptable in a democracy.” While commenting on the appointment of a substantive director general for the agency, the coalition also observed that due process of law and agency guidelines were deliberately ignored to pave the way for the appointment of Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, the President’s kinsman, who was unceremoniously asked to retire from service five years ago following his failure to pass compulsory promotion exams to the rank of deputy director on three consecutive occasions. It also faulted his appointment because the Kingibe committee set up to restructure the NIA which he served as secretary recommended that only the most senior Director would be appointed as Director General of the agency. Ahmed Rufai Abubakar the coalition said retired as an assistant director five years ago after failing promotion examination on three occasions. “The appointment is therefore practically short of requirements and grossly shrouded in illegality,” it maintained. The coalition further stated that the administration’s purported fight against corruption is now being labeled as a mockery on the sensibilities of Nigerians due to its selectiveness and insincerity. Dauda last month appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Public Safety over $44 million missing from the NIA. President Muhammadu Buhari had appointed Dr Abubakar Rufa’i as new NIA boss. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/coalition-reacts-as-controversy-trails.html

The Indigenous People of Biafra has attacked and criticized President Donald Trump of the United States of America for inviting President Buhari to the White House in Washington DC. In a statement signed by its spokesèerson distributed to journalists in Awka, the Anambra State capital, the pro-Biafra group berated Trump for what it described as tacitly supporting the massacre of pro-Biafra supporters in spite of the fact that they rallied to celebrate his victory during his inauguration where scores of them were allegedly manhandled by security agents. The statement read in part: “What the Trump administration appears to be doing is inadvertently giving the green light to the brutal anti-democratic regimes in Africa of which Buhari’s APC is one, to murder and detain at will, innocent people and dissenting voices. If not, there is nothing democratic about ‘Buhari’ to justify his invitation to the White House for any discussion. “Whoever it is at the United States Embassy in Abuja, responsible for compiling and transmitting reports of the regime’s atrocities back to the State Department in Washington, failed woefully in his or her duty, because the Buhari regime is the worst government in the history of Nigeria.” IPOB statement read further: “We would like to seize this opportunity of the meeting between President Trump and ‘Buhari’ to draw the attention of the American people to the plight of Biafrans in detention across Nigeria, especially the four in a maximum security prison simply because they came out to celebrate with millions of other people around the world the day President Donald Trump was sworn into office. “It is also important that we remind the US presidency and the good people of United States of America, since it appears the US embassy in Nigeria failed to do so, of the enormity of the brutality and cold blooded massacre of innocent citizens merely exercising their right to freedom of assembly on that fateful day of January 20, 2017. “There is something morally repugnant about ‘Buhari’ visiting Washington to discuss democracy when his administration is not democratic. The failure of US government to hold this regime to account is what may have emboldened and encouraged them to embark on the wholesale ethnic cleansing of parts of Benue State.” “IPOB would like to know if President Trump, by virtue of this invitation to Buhari, is justifying the cold blooded massacre and illegal detention of tens of innocent Biafrans that rallied in Igweocha, Port Harcourt, on that fateful day of January 20, 2017 during his inauguration. “What the Trump administration appear to be doing is inadvertently giving the green light to brutal anti-democratic regimes in Africa of which the ‘Buhari’ APC is one, to murder and detain at will, if not there is nothing democratic about ‘Buhari’ to justify his invitation to the White House for any discussion on governance and democracy. “Whoever it is at the United States embassy in Abuja, responsible for compiling and transmitting reports of regime atrocities back to the State Department in Washington, failed woefully in his or her duty, because this current ‘Buhari’ regime is the worst government in the history of Nigeria.” According to IPOB, “the present APC government in Nigeria led by President Buhari has nothing qualifying it to be given the honour of visiting the office of the leader of the free world, both in terms of brutality, wickedness and total disregard for democratic norms and rule of law.” “Welcoming Buhari to the White House means welcoming tyranny into the bowel of democracy. It sends out the message that United States of America is standing shoulder to shoulder with a mass murderer and tyrannical government, contrary to its stated objectives. “What those who are behind this visit of President Buhari to the White House may have succeeded in doing is give the official President Trump administration endorsement to Nigerian President Buhari, to go on killing and locking people up at will, including those that came out on the streets to celebrate President Trump’s victory.” IPOB said “the visit by President Buhari to White House makes a mockery of the ideals, values of the founding principles of the United States of America”, adding that “if the man responsible for the illegal detention and brutal murder of those celebrating the election of a US president is being welcomed to White House as if nothing happened, one wonders if President Trump is not aware of the 20th of January 2017 massacre at Igweocha, Port Harcourt, or the US mission to Nigeria, especially the US ambassador, failed to inform the White House and President Trump about the incident.” IPOB named Mr. Ikenna Igwe Mazi, Mr. Uchenna Innocent, Mr. Bright Sunday Okoro and Mr. Chidinma Godwin Nwafor, as some of the people arrested and until date still languishing in prison for no other reason than the fact they were celebrating Trump victory. “They were detained on a trumped up charge of treasonable felony for celebrating the inauguration of a US president that is today wining and dinning with the same man that threw them in jail. There is something morally repugnant about this. The very least President Trump can do is to demand that ‘Buhari’ immediately release all IPOB activists and other political detainees across Nigeria.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/trump-tacitly-supporting-brutal-anti.html |

May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.” Speaking on behalf of the Lanlate monarch, the Osi Lanlate, Chief Adegboye Adelani, described the death of Adeyemo as a tragic loss to the town and the Ibarapa zone, following what he called his monumental contributions to their development. He said, “I cannot begin to recount the positive contributions of Adeyemo to the progress and development of our land. He was our illustrious son whom we hold in high esteem. I appeal to the governor to continue to remember Lanlate for good, in memory of our son. “My other appeal is to his colleagues in the Assembly to uphold the legacy of peace and sustain the existing cooperation between them and the executive, which Adeyemo established during his period as speaker of the House.” Speaking on behalf of the late speaker’s family, a leader of the APC in Ibarapa zone, Apostle Samson Aderounmu, said that the parents and the entire family were taken aback by the news of his sudden death. The APC leader said that he held a meeting with the late speaker on the eve of his death, during when he said he did not show any sign of illness or premonition that he was seeing him for the last time. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/04/adeyemo-gov-ajimobi-visits-late-oyo.html

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Thursday, warned the Federal government of Nigeria to desist from any form of ill-treatment towards the duo of Senator Enyinnaya Abribe and a former minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, over their roles in facilitating the release of its leaders, Nnamdi Kanu. The group said any attempt to victimise Abaribe and Chidoka would be resisted and would push them to react appropriately . The warning was contained in a press statement issued by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, and made available to MC EBISCO in Awka. The group wondered why the Federal Government was contemplating going after the two men knowing full well that Kanu’s inability to return to court as contemplated was frustrated by the alleged military attack on his residence in Afara Ukwu, Abia State. Parts of the statement read, “The orchestrated witch-hunt against Chief Chidoka and Senator Abaribe must stop with immediate effect or else every APC infrastructure across Biafraland, both human and material will be decimated beyond recognition. “We are not interested in engaging in any direct confrontation with anybody but if Nigeria thinks they can harass these outstanding Igbo sons because they merely stood up to surety our leader, then they are grossly mistaken. “There are countless corrupt Fulani men in Nigeria. In fact that Nigeria is so backward today is because of Arewa misrule and unprecedented entrenchment of mediocrity at the heart of governance.” The group said the obsession of this APC regime with Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB and Biafra is its greatest undoing. It said using blackmail to intimidate the political class in the South East does not mean there are no more men of good conscience who can rise up to criticise evil when they see one. The group also added that, “IPOB is not and will never be interested in Nigerian politics but any politician unfairly singled out from the South East, South South and Lower Benue, to be ridiculed and messed up by either the EFCC or any other Fulani controlled government agency, will be resisted to the hilt. “This nonsense is becoming intolerable. What are the crimes of Chief Osita Chidoka and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe? “Senator Abaribe merely criticised this regime which is his duty to do as an opposition lawmaker since at least on paper Nigeria is still a democracy. “Leave Senator Abaribe and Osita Chidoka alone! If you want them to forfeit their bail bond please use the appropriate channels which is the law court not crude and primitive intimidation by the EFCC. “It may have worked with Senator Dino Melaye but it definitely will not work with Senator Abaribe because IPOB will not allow it,” it said. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/04/biafra-ipob-warns-nigerian-government.html
