Yea ur right doyin13, the windies are dead and buried. Lara's retirement was the last nail in the coffin. You can hate the aussies but you've gotta admit that they are the best team in the world at the moment. Speaking of which, what do you think of them not wanting to tour Zimbabwe because of Mugabe's government. I think sports and politics should be seperate, no one should use criccket as a political tool. Moreover they'll have to pay $2million if they decide not to go. Would make financial and sporting sense to tour Zimbabwe whatever the state of the politiics might be. |
I recently just found out that Hepatitis B is endemic in Nigeria. Something like 15% of the population are living with the virus. You hear a lot about HIV (rightly so) but never hear anything about Hep B which is much more infectious than it. It is quite deadly but can be prevented via a vaccine, however it has no 'cure'. One would think that it would be given a lot more publicity considering the fact that a vaccine for it is available. |
doyin13:You are right there were a few down sides to the world cup the greatest of which was Bob Woolmer's murder, but overall i think it was still a great spectacle. I was indeed glad with the perfomance of the irish. I love upsets and their win against pakistan ranks only second to a game i saw a few years ago of Bangladesh against Australia which Bangladesh won. India, Pakistan and may i include Sa deserved what they got considering their perfomances. I expected a lot more from them but they didn't deliver. uzomaeze:I reside in Europe alright but i started following cricket right from when i was in Nigeria. In case you're not aware, cricket is played and enjoyed by quite a number of people in Nigeria. Tafewa Balewa square is cricket haven in Lagos where you'll see a lot of people honing their cricketing skills. There also operates a cricket league which dare i say is better than the Nigerian football league, considering the lack of support for cricket compared to football and its survival notwithstanding. Cricket is an awesome sport. I love cricket! |
This is to all cricket lovers, sign in here and comment on the recently concluded world cup. I thought it was a wonderful and historic one, though i didn't get to see all the games. Was sad to say goodbye to two of the world's greats: Glenn Mcgrath and Brian Lara. I'm gonna miss them. A couple of amazing things i got to see were Herschelle Gibbs' 6 sixes in one over, was quite awesome, and Malinga's hatrick was really good. Not forgetting Gilchrist's amazing innings in the final. Share a few of your favourite memories from the world cup or any game you've seen |
Now reading half of a yellow sun by chimamanda ngozi adichie. it's an amazing book, higly recommend it. |
Nacho libre. Is the most pointless movie i've ever seen. i wanted to go ask for my money back afterwards. |

Just finished king of torts by john grisham, before that i read The rainmaker by the same author. Now reading the summons by John Grisham ![]() |
Just recently found out that uric acid- one of the components of urine- is a very good anti-oxidant, almost as effective as ascorbic acid (vitamin c). In that regard drinking urine provides anti-oxidants which clear free radicals and minimize risk of cancer. However i believe drinking some vitamin c solution would be far more pleasant than urine. Furthermore other unwanted substances are not present in vit c. |
Again davidylan is on somebody's case. Why do you go around picking on people. Granted you do appear knowledgeable on quite a few issues, but attacking people personally is not the way to go about it, at least not in my opinion. I get irked myself when people parade themselves as knowing a lot when they're in fact ignorant but haba relax. You should just state the facts and let the ignoramus choose to take them on board or not. Clear up misconceptions but don't start personal attacks please. |
oh my goodness, the exchanges between bluenubian and davidylan were appalling. Can't believe you both degenerated to such a level. I think you both owe each other an apology. You've got to accept that nobody has a monopoly on knowledge. Apologies now please! As for urine therapy, it has always puzzled me. I've heard several advocates for drinking one's own urine but it has never struck a chord with me, especially after my study of human metabolism. One has got to ask himself if urine is so useful why is it excreted. Urine contains among other things: hormones, urea and uric acid. Accumulation of these compounds cause very debilitating disorders such as gout etc. Conclusion is that i wouldn't advice anyone to drink their own urine. Those compounds are excreted for a reason. Trust your metabolism, it's usually right. |
i don't want to miss a thing by aerosmith good job getting razorlight bunmii. This should be a lot easier: When you are with me, I'm free I'm careless, I believe Above all the others we'll fly This brings tears to my eyes My sacrifice |
wow this thread tells me how long i've been away from 9ja, haven't seen any of them, My friend and i were talking one day and some1 said 'i thought you'd never ask'. This sounded familiar to me and thought it must have been from an ad, however i couldn't remember which one. Could someone help me out by telling me wat the ad was for and what the scenario was, it's been wrecking my head for weeks. I THOUGHT YOU'D NEVER ASK (i think it might have been an mtn ad) |
The game- dreams esylnera! no circumventing the rules! now back to my one; Now I'm just waiting for something that might never come If it's a million to one shot I'll make sure I won Seems that nothing is safe, except the truth turns to lies Never figured it out, I figured out why |
seal- crazy Now I'm just waiting for something that might never come If it's a million to one shot I'll make sure I won Seems that nothing is safe, except the truth turns to lies Never figured it out, I figured out why |
I am thinking of becoming a psychiatrist but worried of what the uptake of my services would be like in Nigeria. I think our society lives in a state of denial with regard to mental disorders and urgent help is needed in that regard. Many people are turning to the wrong places for solutions to problems which science has already provided a proven solution. Don't get me wrong i'm all for prayers and spiritual interventions but i believe that when coupled with therapy, the overall prognosis is far better than either on its own. |
LadyT:See that's exactly our problem! Granted that the caucasians go over board with their therapy thingy, there is no denying that it is effective and can be very useful especially in a case such as this. I have considered becoming a therapist but it is sentiments from people like lady T that incense and discourage me. Many of us have varying psychological illnesses but refuse to admit it. 'Pull yourself together and get over it', doesn't always work. With regards to the main subject matter, i suggest that the poster seeks help from a psychologist, specifically a cognitive behavioural therapist. I've studied the methods of the aforementioned therapy and find them to be very helpful. I know it may be quite difficult to find one in Nigeria which is why i am considering pursuing this carreer. However i am worried of how the perception and uptake would be like. I am going to start a thread concerning this and urge you all to look for it and comment. NB Prayers and other spiritual interventions are also quite helpful |
Free:Thanks for being honest free, so u see dude, it's usual, get over it and get on with in. |
Just thought i'd add my experience regarding the subject matter. I asked a lady out on a first date a few days ago and she paid despite my protestations. I didn't really mind. She insisted and being the polite gentleman i am, i obliged. It didn't cast her in a bad light in any way but rather highlighted her independence which i quite admired and suppose that any sensible contemporary man would. |
Medicine is a pretty difficultt course but ultimately rewarding. Anyone can do it if only they would apply themselves accordingly. However because it's a pretty tough area( human lives involved), one's motives are quite important. I know from experience that it is very easy to feel down and out due to the amount of work required but if you're doing it for the right reason and enjoy the subject matter then it becomes a doddle. An important indicator is if studying is a chore for you then medicine definately isn't your thing. As well you have to be compassionate and resilient because all your mental and emotional resources will be severely tested. Imagine rooting through loads of people daily and having to recall diverse information at the snap of a finger while trying to be caring at the same time. Not the easiest thing in the world. All in all it is very rewarding and fulfilling because if it wasn't nobody would do it. I'm doing it and i can testify that it is great fun. Medical professionals are among the greatest people in the world. Join the medical profession but do it for the right reason.money and prestige is as good a reason as any.Oh did i say that the last sentence was a sarcastic one. |
Feel free to vent your spleen on valentine's day and make people aware that it is just an avenue for hallmark and its ilk to exploit us. And for those that love it, make a case for it and watch yourself get shot down. |
What is this obsession with valentine's day. Totally gets on my nerves. It s so obvious to see that it is just an avenue to exploit people. One doesn't need to be reminded to express emotions. |
You jump off a bridge or a really tall building, thats what you do! |
With regards to what girls expect from guys, experience has taught me that girls don't know themselves. So we just end up running around in circles going absolutely nowhere. Thus this is one question for which there is no answer |
Heavy metal, now thATS ONE puzzle i cant figure out. |
oh the naivety! Now that there's opportunity to break hearts, break oh. Because when your turn come, there'll be no mercy. I can assure you that much. |
Welcome to our world dude, now MOVE ON!!! and don't be a cry baby |
Just thought i'd say from a scientific point of view that the butterflies in your stomach is from activation of the sympathetic nervous system which withdraws blood from the gastrointestinal tract and redirects it to other organs. Get some kind of epinephrine blocker and You#ll be GRRRRRRAAAAAANNNNNNNDDDDDDDD!!! ![]() |
dude you should realize that with women its all about them. She's allowed to forget your birthday and your not to mind cuz ur a man, but you dare not do the same. The world as far as women are concerned revolves around them. In the words of Chris Rock; whenever you wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and say %@&$ you, %@&$ you, %@&$ you, because today like everyother day is all about her. That's the one thing loads of guys never learn. Know this and your sorted in the woman department for life, So the next time she forgets your birthday smile and bottle it up because nobody gives a damn how you feel. |
Unbelievable!!! |
mgs without a shadow of doubt |
Hi doc Balogun, read d posts and hav to commend the time and effort u put into them. I'm a med student myself in TCD, read in one of yor posts that you trained in Dublin. I'm curious to know where you did your internship and how it worked out as it's tough these days for non eu nationals to get a spot in hospitals in Eire. |
