The new Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig-Gen. Sule Kazaure on Monday took over as the 17th DG of the scheme, promising to be transparent and to prioritise the welfare of the workers and corps members. Kazaure, who said this during the handing over ceremony in Abuja, said the tasks ahead are huge, but added that with unity of purpose, his administration would make progress. He said, “I know that the tasks ahead are enormous and the road is rough, but with unity of purpose, we will make progress. Therefore, I urge all to be pro-active, positive and optimistic in all our dealings so that our individual effort will result into success in line with the vision of the present administration. “On my part, I understand the importance of motivation for staff, I will endeavor to be fair, transparent in my administration to enable us succeed together.” Earlier, the immediate past DG, Brig- Gen. Johnson Olawumi said the agitation for increase in the monthly allowance of the 260,000 serving corps members would soon yield the desired result. He explained that the leadership of the scheme had written series of letters to the Federal Government on the issue, and “there seems to be a ray of light at the end of the tunnel.” Olawumi urged the workers to extend the cooperation he enjoyed during his tenure to his successor. “I want to call on my successor to please prioritise corps members’ welfare during the orientation camp and thereafter. In this regard, the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme needs to be sustained to reduce the tide of unemployment and promote self- reliance amongst corps graduates,” He stated. Olawumi took over the NYSC leadership on January 6, 2014.

MEMBERS
My dear Corps members, l sincerely regret
the late payment of your March allowance.
For avoidance of doubt, your allowances do
not come to the NYSC as the scheme has no
account.
Once it is approved by the Federal Ministry
of Finance, it goes to the Central Bank
account from where it is disbursed directly
to Corps members account.
It is the beauty of the Treasury Single
Account and that explains why you get the
whole allowance in full without any charges.
As at now, we are liaising vigorously with
the Ministry so that fund is released to the
CBN GIFMIS account and once it is done, it
takes us just minutes through the online
platform to remit straight to all the 244,532
Corps members in service.
We are equally mounting pressure on the
Ministry to ensure that the April allowance
for 2015 Batch A and the outstanding one
month allowance for Stream 2, Batch A 2015
is also paid as quickly as possible.
It has become necessary to explain this so
as to clear the erroneous believe that the
Scheme is holding Corps members
allowance.
Please just exercise patience as this will be
resolved in a couple of days.

A Human Rights group, Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency (CESJET), has petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari, urging him to probe the online registration of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), describing as extortion of of innocent Nigerian students seeking to serve their fatherland. The group in a letter of petition addressed to the president and signed by its Executive Director, Attah Sunday described the The four thousand naira fee for accessing the online portal for registration and printing of call up letter introduced under the current NYSC as anti-people. Asaya camp is a lovely place especially the mammy market there are lots of fun to catch and remember you are having just
