Okay.Plainly, any name with ikú is abikú's identity. Itis a fact that Yoruba tradition profess positivism in all challenges, inclusive ikú which is negatism.

Herein, every name given that either is having ikú (prefix or suffix) is absolutely rejection of death in such family.

Kindly know also, there is no shrine for ikú to be worshipped or venerated in ifá. Infact immortality was for humanity in totality but when the laws were broken, then death begun to kill humanity.

This is why, death is seen as a mean of ascending to the abode of the ancestors for reincanation to be once there is a reason for such person or individual who died without fulfilment of his purose on earth, must return back to do such. Hence, Bátundé/Bábátundé came to existence.
This makes sense.

Because why would someone bear names like 'kumuyi', 'ikuseka', 'ikujenyo', if they hadn't been plaged by many people they cared about dying around them?

I feel for our ancestors sha. They just didn't understand why those people were dying and they just expressed their emotions and beliefs in the naming of their kids

I never said Malaolu is a Celestial name. I only said religious names are taking over our Yoruba names! We can of course retain our traditional names while we still have religious names.
You mean Abrahamic religious names are taking over? because names containing Ogun, Osho, Sha are still religious names.

Even names that reference reincarnation are religious names.

My curiousity! How do you see "Ikú", in Yorùba tradition cum religious doctrine ? For educative purpose and knowledge exposure.
From what I've researched online, ancient yorubas saw death as a spirit.

Lol! Say who ? I guess, you are looking at kind of khaki clothing for pupils or students grin ? Innovation. Adire or Ankara have patterns that can be used for uniform. It simply means, celebration of Yoruba fabric identity.

Although, you're entitled to your personal view. So, you can disagree. This said clothing material is Yoruba's and making uniform out of it is to carve identity for Yoruba pupils or students
We don't have to make poor decisions in the name of saluting our identity.

Ankara just wouldn't work.

Have you seen any school in the world that wears their cultural atire as uniform?

I love African culture Today ,our names are dying and are being replaced by Imole, Apoti Eri, Morayo ,Murewa, and other Third world names and Cele names. What about Malaolu? Malaolu means. MU ..(.BRING ...ALA..(WHITE CLOTH )...OLU...( GODS )
MALAOLU BRING WHITE CLOTHE TO GOD. ASA WA O NI PARUN
Could the white sultana worn by celestial members be incorporating paganism into Christianity? because I know Ala is significant to orishanla.

Wealth or abundance associated with royalty.

Okùn is sea though Okùn also means wealth, abundance. The sea which ancient Yorubas referred is more than what is literary since it is seen as means of livelihood.

Ajé is also wealth in Yoruba tradition. And Ajé is the daughter of Olókùn who is among Yoruba's pantheon same as ajé.
Cheers. But why is the 'ola' term for wealth more ubiquitous?

It turns out ola doesn't even mean wealth.
'Oro' means wealth.

So how did alot of yorubas get it wrong?

I think one day, I may write about this topic on a tabloid or aptly to the authority on it.

Peradventure, you are in a position to do same, then do the write up because this idea of yours in outstanding and needed to be considered.
How can school uniform be made out of Ankara? Ankara is not sustainable for regular wash and wear.

Life isn't fair to men. My fiancee is the first and she told me point blank when we met that she's the first and if we settle she still need to help her other siblings pull through. Entitlement mentality has nothing to do with family like have been saying. We are bound to help each other.
Until she puts her siblings before you and the future children you may have.

because you men are good at that

He at least confirmed something I always knew, women would most times put their husbands before their families. He thought women reason like men who go about singing how they have suffered with their families before marrying. If it were OP’s husband, know he would give his brother that money and if his wife says pim - we would sit to discuss how she wants to scatter the brotherhood.

If I were her, I would give my brother something, definitely not the 120k sha.
You're completely correct. A man would have prioritised the family he left behind instead of the one he created. They'd carry their mum, dad, cousin, brother forgetting they're married with young children.

Women got it right.

Yes I'd give him something only if I can and want to, not 150k

But what (university, I assume)school fees in Nigeria is 150k? because it seems like they're trying to milk her.
Put me straight if I'm wrong.

Selfish? Lol. You might be 60 years and be successful but one way or another you might still need help somedays. Pick her husband before me.... The earliest you learn your spouse is your only family who is not your relative the better for you. Divorce is quite rampart this days, your spouse can choose to leave, your partner can leave at a time of distress but family is where one runs too at the end.

About the sister thing, I needed some help at some point that could have made life better for me. I had like a million saved needed just 300k. My sister point blank told me her husband wanted changing his car and other family stuffs. I cried deeply as I also paid part of her masters fee before marriage even when it was not convenient. I ended up letting go and when the small god go, the bigger ones come. A complete stranger ended up helping. Am good now but it really laid a kibosh on our relationship.
You're contradicting yourself. You said family is so and so, but you made money come between yourself and your sister.

If you're a grown adult, you aren't owed anything, so you sound kind of entitled to bear grudged towards your sister because she didn't give you 300k.

Did you and your sister have an agreement that told help each other out financially?

Did you pay part of her Masters out of your own freewill or because she asked?

Make life better you in what way? Can you be more specific, in what you wanted the 300k for because it doesn't seem like you needed it because you were sick and helpless or destitute.

This is a very serious issue. If u were not staying with your mom now or u didn't mention the money to them it would have been a different case. What about ur dad is he late? And is it just u and your brother your mom have? Also did he just get admission to school? For those of u saying at 24 he should be able to hustle and provide for himself, what work can he do without certificate that will provide the 120k he needs for the school fees. At least if u are giving advice also give us the solution. That money is going to make a lot of people enemies in that house whether u give it or u don't that is why making your mom aware of the money was a very big mistake.
Why is the school fees even 120k? Is it a private school? Is it the fees for multiple yrs? undecided

Most of the folks here are telling you not to mind your mum. Watch how you create if not an everlasting enemity between yourself and your brother. Even your mum won't be able to bridge the gap. Family is everything. Your brother might be desperate for the money. If you are to get an house rent won't you path with close to the amount and this is your blood brother we are talking about here. My sister once choosed her husband before me years ago and till today I still carry the grudge. Don't create an enemity, cut your budget cost for the business and help your brother even if not everything. Las Las that your hubby might loose guard you,. The 300k might finish or get stolen but the people you have are everything.
The boy is 24 years not under 18. He's an age where he's old enough to cater for himself. He needed the money for school fees, he wasn't sick and helpless in a hospital.

What do you mean your sister chose her husband before you?

Did you want your sister to throw her husband away and marry you instead?

If your sister has kids, the family she has created are now a priority over the family she left behind.

You sound like a selfish and self-centered person.

Your post is a wide tangent off point. I specifically mentioned divorcees.

Misery loves company.
Okay, let me ask you a question. Have you ever seen a divorcee giving advice to married couples on how to enjoy their marriages?
Kevin Samuels does, but yes you're right, most divorced Nigerian women aren't positive about marriage.

Then again it's not a divorced person's place to advice married couples.

Even ppl that are married who flaunt how happily married they are, always end up revealing themselves in the end
