Its really Very Unfortunate that we have People Like creativity in this our Country, People that see the truth by the day and yet want to Hide it Away, when asked Genuine questions they dodge to something else, OKiro that is crying Foul was Promoted to the IG instead of AIG ONOVO, and what has the RULE Ruse of Law done to correct that? So its Only Ribadu that has a track record that we can fight? the People he fought have not gone to court to protest their Innocence, we have seen People Locked up Illegally and after they are released they go back to the courts and get Justice, if this so called Enemies of OBJ were Innocent why don't they go to the courts so their names can be cleared? and its Simply Becos he did not accept his demotion now that you are quoting the Rule of abi na Ruse of law? Please the ruse of law should not just be for the Privileged few it should extend to all and it should start from Okiro, the President was the one that Made him the IG not the PSC they should review it, and is it the Rule of Law for the EFCC to have dropped the charges against Igbinedion to just one from 189? Rule of Law that with what we have heard of him the Present EFCC could not get a good Judgment against him and want to waste Public funds for an Appeal? the Judgment the got against him do you know cannot pay for the Legal fees they have accrued on that case? and we call that the Rule of Law Please if that is what the Rule of Law is then I would not wanna follow that I'd rather Follow Ribadu. Go and reason well and know what you are following, Ribadu did not only fight Politicians He as well fought the Yahoo yahoo Boys, it was known in his days that When people hear Ribadu in a Public Function they start to hide cos their ways were not straight. and it Never bothered People whose ways were straight hes the only man that People looked into at the Police force and were surprised that there was a Police officer of his character. Creativity are you sure you are doing this in your senses or you have been bought over? think o;

When Ribadu was going after corrupt politicians and civil servants in Nigeria, instead of critics to call a spade a spade, they say he was only going after political enemies or detractors  of Obasanjo. Well Obasanjo has been out of office for more than a year, yet we haven't seen these accused and convicts haven't been queueing up to institute court cases against Obasanjo, EFCC or Ribadu.

Look, I found so ridiculous when people say it was bec they were "political enemies of Obasanjo". Why do Nigerians think it's good that politicians they like can get away with corruption? Or is true that Nigeria populace are corrupt as well?

Plz let's call a spade a spade?

SaharaReporters, New York
Legal authorities in the UK have confirmed that Mrs. Theresa Nkoyo Ibori’s trial will proceed, despite distorted media reports in Nigeria that the wife of former Governor James Onanefe Ibori of Delta State had been cleared of wrong doing.

Both Attorney General Michael Aondoakaa and Ibori’s associates have claimed Mrs. Ibori was free from prosecution following a verdict by the London High Court that ruled evidence received from the "Letter of Request 2" should not apply to her since she was not mentioned in any of the correspondences.

Despite the impression in sections of the Nigerian press that the case against Ibori’s wife had collapsed, SaharaReporters learnt that Mrs. Ibori was denied the bail variation she sought. “Her trial is very much on course,” said an official in the Crown Prosecution Office.

On Monday (December 22nd 2008), Mrs. Ibori's lawyers were to approach the Southwark Crown Court to ask that her passport be released to enable her to visit her husband in Nigeria, but she abandoned the application midway. That means that the stringent bail conditions imposed upon her since her release from the Holloway Prison in May 2008 remain in place. The conditions include 250,000 pounds surety as well as seizure of her passports and travel documents.

However, the judge noted Mrs. Ibori’s recent broken ankle injury, and agreed that she not be forced to return to the Metropolitan Police to sign on her bail bonds in a police station while recuperating.

The judge also refused to vary the bail conditions of Ibori's UK-based lawyer, Bhadresh Gohil. Our source said Mr. Gohil is believed to be involved in a fresh scandal involving the former governor of Akwa Ibom state, Obong Victor Attah. While the source did not offer specific details, Mr. Gohil’s shady dealings with Attah were said to pertain to the V-mobile shares converted by the former governor. Attah is one of the former governors named by the Ribadu-led EFCC as engaged in extensive money laundering while in office.

Mr. Attah has been spared from interrogation or arrest by the new EFCC leadership under Mrs. Farida Waziri who is working quietly to sabotage all corruption investigations and prosecutions of former state governors indicted by the EFCC.

Ibori's other associates accused of money laundering include Adebimpe Folayinmi Pogoson (aged 39) of Barons Court, Church Lane, The Hyde, NW9, and Ibori's blood sister, Christine Omatie Ibori-Ibie (aged 49) of Woodhill Crescent, Kenton, Harrow, Middlesex. They as well as his lawyer, Mr. Gohil, will remain on bail as earlier granted until January 12 2008 when their trial is expected to commence at the Southwark Crown Court.

Meanwhile, Ibori's mistress and co-accused, Mrs. Udoamaka Okoronkwo (nee Onuigbo), will remain at an all-female Holloway Prison in London until January 12 2009. The judge refused her bail due to insufficient bonds offered by way of houses belonging to her friends in London.

Sources told Saharareporters that there would likely be two trials. Ibori's sister, Christine, Mrs. Pogoson and Udoamaka may be tried as a group, while Mr. Gohil, Ibori’s wife, Theresa Nkoyo, and Udoamaka will likely face another set of charges.

In another development, the Crown Prosecution Services (CPS) through the UK Home Secretary has dispatched another letter to Nigeria's Attorney General, Michael Aondoakaa, requesting formal permission to use a trance of evidence known as the "Letter of Request 2" earlier obtained directly from the EFCC. The CPS has requested that Aondoakaa endorse the evidence so that they may be introduced in the trial of Ibori's associates.

Even as the letter is on its way to Aondoakaa, sources close to the AGF told our reporters that Aondoakaa has already begun making plans to frustrate the UK’s request.

Closely allied to Ibori, Aondoakaa reportedly worked behind the scene to help secure an appeal court ruling that asked the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court to reassign Ibori’s to a "jurisdiction" close to where the crimes were committed. That means that a judge in Delta State would be asked to take over Ibori’s case. “I can tell you that Ibori and Aondoakaa celebrated the verdict,” said one of our sources, close to both men. He disclosed that Ibori “plans to use a combination of intimidation and bribery to secure his acquittal.”

SaharaReporters also learnt that Ibori and Aondoakaa have decided to use Mrs. Pogoson's lawyer, a London-based Nigerian lawyer named Oba Nsugbe, to frustrate the prosecution of Ibori’s associates.

Our sources said Oba Nsugbe has been asked to formally appeal to Aondoakaa to write another brief challenging the first trance of evidence already accepted by the London High court for use in prosecuting Ibori’s associates. Aondoakaa and Nsugbe are close pals, according to a source who knows the UK-based lawyer. If Aondoakaa contests the use of the first trance, “he is likely to damage the already questionable image of his office,” said a UK-based lawyer.

A legal analyst told Saharareporters that Mr. Nsugbe and Aondoakaa appear determined to seek ways to further frustrate the prosecution. Part of their strategy may be to introduce new delays that would divert attention from the UK’s letter of request to Aondoakaa requesting his endorsement of the second trance of evidence. The Home Office has asked Aondoakaa to respond to their request on or before January 9 2009. On that same date, Mrs. Ibori has requested for a hearing to dismiss the case against her.

Aondoakaa has already written several letters and unsolicited legal briefs on Ibori's behalf to frustrate the UK money laundering cases. He recently made public statements giving conditions under which he would accede to the request for endorsement of the evidence, citing "territorial integrity of Nigeria" and the need to avoid "double jeopardy" for Ibori, even though Ibori is only facing trial in Nigeria (technically none at this time). Only Udoamaka Okoronkwo is facing trials in Nigeria and the UK at the same time. Besides, Udoamaka Okoronkwo’s trial in Nigeria is effectively in abeyance following the recent Court of Appeal decision in Kaduna.

One source told SaharaReporters that, should Aondoakaa refuse to endorse the second trance of evidence, the CPS may ask the court to admit the evidence all the same using what is called the "fruit of the poison tree" doctrine.

Dale1 and others, every Nigerian is entitled to His opinion, in USA where You travelled to Do they use abuse of rule of Law to check Corruption, Is abuse of rule of law not corruption in USA?

Ribadu abused rule of Law while checking Corruptiopn, OBJ was the sole preacher against corruption whereas corruption slept with him in the Bedroom, any finger pointed at OBJ then was swiftly defended by Ribadu, while Babas Political enemies where being Harrassed without respect to rule of Law,

Corruption is a vice to any society,Whether financial, abuse of rule of law, Turture to Investigate and so many undemiocratic noms are still forms of Corruption,

Rule of law is established to enable a society fight corruption, even My brother Ribadu knows, What about You.

Meanwhile all that are defending Ribadu's Abuse of Rule law and praying that he gets justice from the Judiciary, without the respect to rule of law where would he get the justice?

"My pet example is the 220 billion pounds ($500 billion) of development assistance that has been stolen from this country since independence to date by past leaders." -Nuhu Ribadu

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu, has accused past Nigerian leaders of stealing $500 billion donors’ assistance from Western countries to Nigeria since independence.
Speaking at the public launch of the Fix Nigeria Initiative (FNI) on Monday, he accused past leaders from independence of stealing $500 billion meant for development projects from Western donors.

He cautioned that if not tackled now, corruption would plunge the country into deeper economic crisis in no distant time.

His words: " Without seeking to befog you with statistics, let me share a few examples of what corruption has cost us as a people and as a nation.

"My pet example is the 220 billion pounds ($500 billion) of development assistance that has been stolen from this country since independence to date by past leaders."

Ribadu described corruption as the most difficult obstacle to national development, adding: "When corruption gets to this level, it can dissolve and rupture an otherwise thriving state as was the case in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC.)

This is partly true also of the tragedy in Sudan, as it was of Liberia and Sierra Leone, where the state practically failed and imploded.

He also said the number of Nigerians that daily throng foreign Embassies seeking visas to travel out of the country was alarming and blamed the situation on what he described as the megalithic kleptocracy of past leaders.

He called on Nigerians to effectively participate in the war against corruption by supporting the EFCC in its anti-corruption campaign.

Ribadu, therefore, described the FNI as project designed to give ownership on the war against corruption to Nigerians, saying: "We must come together to confront the common enemies of our people who have destroyed this country."

Speaking, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Adams Oshiomole, said the politicisation of the war against corruption was a drawback.

He insisted that excuses by those who were indicted by the EFCC of being persecuted because of their opposition to President Olusegun Obasanjo did not make sense.

This makes you think twice and wonder why Ribadu deserve the way he's been treated since Obasanjo left office.

When are we going to start calling a spade a spade?

Festarch,
if we go by your words above, could you please tell nigerians how u are going to prove ribadu's critics wrong at least by mentioning one person who is not obj's enemy or anyone who is close to obj that was brought to book by ribadu. if you do not have any name, does it mean non of obj's allies like bode george, borrishade, tony annenih, chris and andy uba, adedibu etc i corrupt?
if you believe ribadu has been badly treated since obj left office, is ribadu surposed to be hiding under obj or the constitution of nigeria? what will u say tomorrow if a new govt come in tomorrow and pick professor Iwu for questioning?
remember, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. ribadu had absolute powers and was absolutely corrupt.
with such a self acclaimed saint, why was the situation with our roads, security, police, power supply etc went so down with a large volume of funds spent on them over the regime of obj?

To cre8tivity I'd say that if you do not know what witch hunting is , good luck to you. If you see white and call it black, your children will one day reap from it. You can support the rule of law mantra for all I care but for those who are truthful to themselves we know the rule of law is not anywhere near Nigeria. Next time a Policeman stops you on the road, tell him the IG has ordered that all road blocks be closed and this is the era of rule of law.

Now, Rule of law is a very good thing for those who are sincere about it. You said rule of law is the first step out of darkness. Maybe you should go to the Chinese embassy in Nigeria and ask our brothers why they are leaving Nigeria "the land of rule of law" for Lawless china and they may just let you understand that no one eats rule of law. Rule of law does not light their house and infact Rule of law is killing Nigeria very fast. Even Yar Adua knows that rule of law does not treat Malaria. Maybe you don't know but some people are even suggesting that Lawless OBJ is better than Mr Rule of law. When the latest social climber "Farida Waziri" launched her anti corruption revolution, Yar Adua told her to be ruthless with Corrupt officials, can you be ruthless with "rule of law" or we have a new slogan coming "ruthless rule of law"?

To Chidichris, since you don't understand what the state governors have to do with our low quality of lives, I will try to explain. Fashola has only been governor like 19 months and even his enemies "PDP" will tell you that he has done most things well. Most Lagosians can testify to that fact. I live in Lagos and for as many of us whose lives or areas he's yet to touch directly, we can at least hope. Now imagine that being replicated in all 36 states not just the state capitals. We won't even disturb Umoru. You talked about Kalu, I'm not aware that all the streets in Abia state were tarred during his tenure and I know for sure that ABA was one of the dirtiest cities during his tenure. His state's allocation were not seized as far as I can remember. I think a question needs to be answered inthis country, What can a billion Naira do? SO the next time we hear of billions we can at least know what to expect. The governors will tell you they spent billions of naira doing roads that can't survive the next rainy season. If you belong to my generation, you probably went to a Public state school or a federal government school. Now ask the woman that sells roasted corn along your street why her son goes to an "international private school" where the teacher cannot speak good English and she will tell you that her sons stands a better of chance of making her proud in those schools than the same state schools most of us went to where walls now collapse and kill students.

It's easy for the governors to blame the President but truth be told, they aren't pulling their weights too even though they have colonized the local government allocations.

Someone talked about USA and the rule of law, I'd say Ribadu's treatment of corrupt officials is our equivalent of Guantanamo and if you say yes what has Guantanamo achieved, I'd tell you No U.S President has ever treated terrorism (and this will include Obama) with kid gloves (now these are even faceless people) how much more the Iboris and Odilis,I don't care if they are dumped in Jail with/without rule of law.

Now am I a blind supporter of Ribadu, maybe or maybe not but one thing we can agree on is people thought twice about taking their state's money to UK when he ran the show and for that I'm grateful. No country has perfect heroes but they don't denigrate them the way we do here and celebrate mediocres like Ibori and co. Mr. Ribadu could have become a billionaire overnight from his job as EFCC boss like Tafa and Ehindero did as IG's of Police and Okiro is fast doing but he chose not to (at least even with all the Federal powers at their disposal, that has not been proved), now that is what i call service to Fatherland.

For all those lovers of rule of law, please go to the police station closest to you, there are people in detention without any charge, let the IG and AG do something about this.

We know ministers who have died on roads they refused to construct and to Farida Waziri, please let someone tell her we don't need a new anti corruption revolution.

Once again on this issue of selectivity, i am of the opinion that selectivity of those they punish is not so bad, let somebody probe OBJ's enemies, another one Yar Adua's enemies and we can get the game going. Is the Rivers state government not shouting selectivity against Waziri already. You catch a thief, he complains that it's because he's a Yoruba man and everyone buys it, not asking about the real issues.

people should understand what drove ribadu was passion.the guys really passionatly hates the senseless corruption that was taking place in the country and when he was given the oppurtunity to assualt it using the powers and the tools available to him(depending on how u look at it) obj issue with his percieved or real political enemies(was a tool also). but one thing we should all note is that a passionate person into something like ribadu is into right now cannot lose, because i personally thinks that ribadu does not care about that police job again and his enemies have played to his script perfectly,by just making him more relevant even after obj left they would have just posted him to interpol before u knew it nigerian press would forget him like obanikoro. ibori and co f**#ed up big time.

As someone said earlier on this thread, Nigeria is going down!!! The action taken against Ribadu with the tacit
approval of Yar Adua is a mere symptom of the Nigerian rot. Before any of the Ribadu haters begin to spout off,
please google for J Edgar Hoover. The FBI building is named the J Edgar Hoover Building because he more than
anyone else built the FBI, nevermind that he looked the other way when the mafia was becoming a major threat
to the US. Strangely, enough some people want Ribadu to be perfect in everyway possible, I am sure even that
will not satisfy them. The bible a people perish for the lack of vision. This country is cursed with vision-less leaders,
hence the country has now way to go but down. You can blame Ribadu all you want, but the the attitude of some
people here will ensure that Nigerians will continue to reap what they sow, meaning they will continue to reap bad
roads, non-existent healthcare, illiterate graduates, flying coffins, etc.

Goodluck to you guys, its sad to say, but I am so glad to be out of that country for good.

Nuhu Ribadu’s Dismissal: A Case Of Farcical Illegalities

I have read like other people the
purported dismissal of Mallam
Nuhu Ribadu from the Nigeria Police by the Police Service Commission. The dismissal is illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional in the extreme. It is farcical to say the very least. I intend to show why I have taken this position.

First, Category M, paragraphs 29 and 30 of Part I to the Third Schedule vests disciplinary control of officers of Ribadu’s rank exclusively on the Police Service Commission. The commission cannot delegate that important duty to any other organisation or body. Thus, the recommendations of the Committee set up by the IG and not the Police Service Commission is absolutely illegal. It offends the maxim delegatus non potest delegare. I have no doubt that a court of law and of equity would nullify the recommendation of a panel set up by a man who has no power to discipline officers of Ribadu’s rank.

Second, even if we concede for the purpose of argument that the Commission could reach its decision by looking at any report brought to its notice, it is clear beyond any doubt that having received the illegal report the Commission owes Mr Ribadu a duty to invite him to explain his side of the story before deciding to act on the one-sided report of the Committee set up by the IG. This is a constitutional duty guaranteed by section 36 of the Constitution. By that section, all Nigerians have a right to fair hearing in the determination of their civil rights and obligations. For breaching this important democratic right the decision of the Commission is fitting for the waste bin as a court of law and of equity would waste no time in thrashing it. The issue here now is not the refusal of Ribadu to appear before the illegal committee but the fact that he was not given any opportunity to appear before the Police Service Commission. The Commission seems to have confused appearing before the IG committee with appearing before it.

Third, the Commission is aware that all the issues upon which Ribadu was charged from refusing to wear his ‘demoted’ rank to the transfer to Benin are matters submitted to the jurisdiction of the court. By dismissing him on those issues the Commission has trampled on the rule of law and gone against the decision of the Supreme Court in Ojukwu v Governor of Lagos State that no party can take the law in his hands. Indeed, what the Commission has done by sacking Ribadu during the pendency of the case amounts to executive lawlessness in the words of the Supreme Court. That is enough to nullify the nonsensical dismissal.

The most laughable charge is that there is a pristine regulation of the police breached by Ribadu. That regulation according to the police forbids the institution of action against the police by officers. That regulation is illegal and unconstitutional as section 6 of the Constitution clearly stipulates that the judicial powers of the country shall extend to all persons. Indeed, any agreement that ousts the jurisdiction of court is void. It is embarrassing that the police authorities can be quoting such an illegal regulation. It is shameful indeed.

The authorities could have exercised patience for the court to rule one way or the other. Now they have helped Mr Ribadu prove his case that he is a victim of some corrupt gangsters that are out to humiliate him by all means. It is disgraceful that men and women of the Police Service Commission have made themselves willing tools in the hands of the corrupt and deadly cabal. What a shame?

I call on the President to reverse the farcical dismissal of Ribadu. Happily, section 158(1) makes it clear that the Commission is subject to the direction and control of the President in the exercise of its power. If the President is not section 158 to reverse the purported dismissal of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. Period!

RIBADU HAD HIS OWN FAIR SHARE FROM GOVT. OF OBJ. HIS CASE IS LIKE THAT OF "RUSH DIE". HE JOINED 22 YRS AGO ROSE TO AIG IN A SPATE OF TIME, THANKS TO THE DEMOTION,FORGETTING THAT HE WHO RIDE AT THE BACK OF TIGER CAN EVENTUALLT END IN THE BELLY OF SAME TIGER, HE WAS A TOOL IN THE HAND OF THE POLITICIAN ,JUST LIKE HIS ESTWHILE BOSS 'SUPER COP' WHO WAS USED TO RIGGED 2003 ELECTION, CAPTURING THE WHOLE COUNTRY, WHEN HE IS NOT USEFUL AGAIN, THE SAME RIBADU WAS USED TO MOLEST HIM, SO THIS HIS OWN FAITH, LET HIM ACCEPT IT, JUST LIKE EHINDERO HAD ADVISED. HE HAS ATE HIS FUTURE IN THE PAST, sad SO LET HIM DRINK WATER TO IT. LESSION FOR HIS LIKES. cry grin
