Politics / Re: Do You Know Nigeria Has An Ethnic Arab Tribe ? by 2sd(m): 1:28pm On Apr 11, 2012
Rossikk: KnowAll said

Why do you want to see more of them in the next 50 years or whatever rubbish it is you wrote? Because they are Arabs?? It is people like you that sell out Africa everyday. Always valuing the light-skinned foreigner over your own fellow blacks.  Do you think they don't have black populations in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Libya etc? How many Iranians or Libyans do you see ''wishing the blacks will play more of a role in the next 50 years'' in their country??

Until blacks like you understand that you have no friends outside your own race, save those wishing to use, abuse, and dump you, you will continue to play second fiddle to other peoples.

Right on point!

That is the perception of an average black man believing people with lighter skin are better. It simply means the guy is hanging his hope of better Nigeria on them. This is bad! The earlier we realize they are no better the better for us. Do you know they are more aware this than us? They know things are only evolving and its only a matter of time for us to realize and take our rightful position. We need to have strong believes in ourselves and with strong conviction that we can effect the right changes we want beginning from now. Do you know all these problems are no problem if we set our focus on solving them. They are aware of that as well but no need telling us because it suits their purpose except for few who are bold enough to tell us like Bill Clinton.

Politics / How Jonathan Diminished Thepresidency – By Chinedu Ekeke by 2sd(m): 3:44pm On Apr 08, 2012
When you elevate a child to a position far above his
capacity, the first thing he does is to reduce it to his
level, and thereafter make a constant mess of what
is left of it. We saw within the week how Nigeria’s
presidency was diminished by a man whose
psychological qualification for the office has
remained subject to critical questioning from day
one. The cathedral image of the presidency was
whittled down to fit into the narrow mind of the man
who occupies it. The president of the Federal
Republic Of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, solicited a
gift from an Italian construction company, Gitto
Construzioni Generali Nigeria Ltd. The gift came in
the form of a church built for the president in his
small village of Otuoke. He had complained that the
church in his village was unbefitting of a president’s
village. And the company seized the moment to
curry the his favour.
This, to be clear, goes beyond its legality or
otherwise. This amplifies the character of the
president, and, for me, his depth of appreciation of
the office he occupies.
But first the legality of such a conduct. Section 6 of
the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, in the First
Schedule of the 1999 Constitution, states in clear
terms; “ …the receipt by a public officer of any
gifts or benefits from commercial firms,
business enterprises or persons who have
contracts with the government shall be
presumed to have been received in
contravention of the law” . Mr Jonathan has
contravened the law!
Now the argument from the president’s handlers is
that the church was built for the entire village
residents, not just the president and his family. But
that is an invalid argument considering that the
church was built after the president personally
expressed his desire to see a church befitting of a
president’s village. The president asked for it, and
he was given. If the request had been for the cost of
the church to be paid directly into his personal
account, it would have been granted.
The question isn’t about those for whom the church
was built. The question is about the purpose for
which the donors made the donation. In fact, the
chief beneficiary is President Jonathan himself. The
villagers didn’t complain. Their primary challenge as
citizens of Nigeria isn’t to have a big church. They
have more pressing needs to contend with. The
president voiced out his need, and those who seek
the president’s favour rose to the challenge. They
built the church to compromise the president who,
as it were, implicitly expressed his willingness to be
compromised. The intent is clear. No lawyer needs
to scratch beyond the surface to convince an upright
jury that an offence has been committed. This is a
case of contravention of the code of conduct for
public officers.
I have not hidden my concern for President
Jonathan’s penchant for not appreciating how big his
office is. Apart from his knowledge of the amount of
money he can amass from false and unrealistic
budgets, as well as the retinue of sycophants at his
beck and call, the president doesn’t know what he
represents. Great leaders know that any position of
leadership effectively denies “their people” the
opportunity of being treated special. The moment
Goodluck Jonathan became Nigeria’s president, he
ceased being an Ijaw leader or Otuoke development
crusader. His constituency is wherever the Nigerian
borders end and those who make up his people have
increased from his family and state to every nook
and crany of Nigeria. Merely professing this will not
do; acting it, and being seen to act it, is the
leadership we seek.
So why doesn’t the president know this? Being in public office is not
for everybody. There must be a certain level of grooming, earlier-on in
life, for whoever wants to be a public servant. The mindset of
leadership is cultivated over time. The president doesn’t have this
mindset. This is why he could only feel embarrassed about the poor
church structure in his village but not bothered about the thousands
who live in round huts in Benue, Kogi, Nasarrawa, Taraba and other
states in the North and Middle Belt in 21st Century Nigeria. He is
concerned about the local church in his village, but not bothered that
thousands of Nigerians float on water in a place called Makoko in
Lagos. The president doesn’t feel embarrassed that in every local
government in Nigeria’s South East are many families whose hearts
leap each time it starts raining because the thatch roofs under which
they live leak. The president isn’t aware, that somewhere outside his
Otuoke village, in the same Bayelsa state, people still live under
thatch roofs. Bad enough, that’s the state Mr Jonathan ruled as a
governor for two years. It takes grooming to be a great leader. We
don’t have such a figure in Aso Rock.
It should worry every one of us that we have a president whose
approach to governance speaks of gargantuan pettiness. The president
is even feigning ignorance of the weight of the offence he committed.
That, again, amplifies the perception many have of him as lacking in
clues as far as governance is concerned.
Societies with functional legislature would have immediately
commenced impeachment proceedings on the president for bringing
that office to disrepute. But that’s for such societies. What we have
here is almost the state of nature where entropy is the rule, and
insanity makes for orderliness.
Ours is the caricature of a working society, with all of its systems
designed to remain perpetually non-functional by those whose only
chance at relevance and survival is guaranteed by disorder.
It is such disorder that threw up a Jonathan as political figure and
crowned him the president of Africa’s most populous nation. That
disorder it is that has given Mr Jonathan the leeway to want to defend
this act that highlights him as a president who abused office, rather
than quickly dropping his resignation letter to clear way for proper, and
uninterrupted, investigation into this misdemeanor.
It is this disorder that we will live with for as long as we ignorantly
choose to wait before collectively rising up to establish our relevance
as the true owners of the land.

Politics / Air Force, Police Embark On Aerial, Groundsurveillance In Kano by 2sd(m): 12:37am On Apr 08, 2012
Kano (WorldStage Newsonline)-- In order to ensure a crime-free Easter celebrations in Kano, the
Nigerian Air force base and the Kano State Police Command are conducting a round the clock
ground and aerial surveillance on the metropolitan city of Kano.
Following anxiety in the city, since last week, as a result of reports that Islamic militants, the
Boko Haram, were planning another fresh attack, the Joint Task Force is rolling out its tanks with
men embarking on a round the clock surveillance of the city.
According to sources close to the Air Force base and the Bompai Police Command, the operation,
which would be conducted separately, would begin as early as 6am on Easter Sunday.
During the joint security arrangement, the Air force would deploy its gun boat helicopters, and
will be supported with the police conventional helicopters, two of which have been in operation in
Kano, since the deadly Boko Haram attack of January 20, 2012.
Since the January 20, multiple attacks, Police helicopter has been hovering the ancient city of
Kano.
Meanwhile, apart from the involvement of the Air force in the security build-up, the 3 Brigade
Kano has already deployed armoured personnel carriers to strategic locations in the state in
addition to improved vehicular patrol.
Churches in the state capital particularly have also been fortified by the security agents.
In another development, the Kano State Police Commissioner, Idris Ibrahim said that the
Thursday’s attack by gunmen in which a Pastor was said to have been killed was a clear case of
armed robbery, as he was shot in in his house by his attackers, who made away with his vehicle.
According to him, the incident had no religious connection whatsoever, adding that the victim was
not known to the police as a Pastor but as an Engineer working in a private firm in Kano.
The case, he said is been investigated.

We must commend the government for this security arrangements but it will nice if this can be replicated in other Nothern cities to prevent these BH Terrorists from carrying out their plans.

Education / Re: Why Is Critical Thinking And Common Sense Elusive To Most 'Educated' Nigerians? by 2sd(m): 12:08am On Apr 08, 2012
irohadis: Let us not reproduce the same thing that we criticise. To make such general assumption on Nigerians and black people is less than critical. So it is, also, to suggest that it is a "black thing."

It is true that the universities as spaces of learning and thinking are failing our youths. But there is a lot of innovation and creative (critical) thinking operating at the popular level in Nigerian society. It is absolutely not possible to survive in Nigeria without the ability to think creatively. It is creative to figure out that the traffic snarls on third mainland bridge and Maryland can be converted into market places. It is also creative to figure out what can sell under such conditions. Even the yahoo boys can be viewed as most creative in the strategies they deploy. Nigerians do not borrow completely from the west, we transform western cultures and infuse them with strong vernacular accents. Our vibrant contemporary music is a case in point. Political discuss is vibrant and operates in bars, homes and communal gatherings. If you are present in any of these, you will realise that contributors advance their arguments critically.

Religion is a belief system and incompatible with logic. This is the case anywhere in the world. If not, tell me why states in the south of the US advance creationism in schools even when there is scientific evidence against it? With religion, the "dumbness" is universal.

It is patronising, myopic and uncritical to project such condescending notions about Nigerian thinking. The problem lies in spaces of formal education where knowledge is imparted rather than interrogated. At the level of everyday life, Nigerians are naturally creative. This is why some cultures answer questions with questions - probing.

This is a clearly thought through argument unlike the OP's myopic and baseless argument.
@OP you need to go back and think through your Points before drawing baseless conclusion.
Health / Stop Referring Patients Abroad For Medical Treatments by 2sd(m): 12:19pm On Apr 06, 2012
The Federal
Government has
threatened to sanction
doctors in federal
tertiary hospitals who
are in the habit of
referring patients
abroad for ailments
that can be treated in
Nigeria.
The Minister of Health,
Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu,
who sounded the warning
on Thursday in Abuja while speaking at a meeting with Chief
Executives of Federal Tertiary Hospitals in Nigeria said the federal
goverment will no longer tolerate doctors who refer patients
abroad for services that can be rendered in Nigeria.
According to him, “Some times we are wasteful with our
prescriptions. So many people travel abroad because of their
ignorance, they are not aware of such services in Nigeria…
management of the government hospitals should uphold medical
standards and discipline in their hospitals.”
The minister further said, “From whom much is given, much is
expected. Nigerians expect best services from you and Mr.
President also expect no less from you…Medical practice demands
much more standards than other sectors. We have to do all to
meet the standards. I want to urge the CMDs and CEOs to ensure
that their managements are up to the task. We must go by all the
laws on ground.”
Meanwhile, all public hospitals have been instructed to embrace
the use auto disposable syringes with effects from October.

www.channelstv.com/home/2012/04/06/stop-referring-patients-abroad-for-medical-treatments-fg/

This is a welcoming development. Nigerians keep taking much needed funds abroad when seeking medical service in these countries not knowing some of these services are available here in Nigerian. We need to encourage Nigerians and government institution who put in their best to give us some of the good news Coming out of our teaching hospitals.

Its a nice development. Its long overdue. I'm surprised they woke up so late, they wouldn't have woken up until they are threatened. A lot more developments are coming. If we had had this long time ago, maybe thing would have been a bit better with each region knowing exactly what it is and its relative strength and form alliance easily with each other. Politics would have been played better.

I think their leaders were too weak to voice this out before now, allowing the future of their children to hanged in the balance. It took Boko Haram threats to make them open their mouth. Weak leaders who couldn't fight for their children's future!!!

I think your wife is taking you for granted. But getting her to change is going to be difficult because she's got used to it. It'll take a lot of things combined together to achieve a result but it is possible. Firstly, you must decide how you're going to deal with the situation. I'll suggest-

1. Get her a job.
2. You have to stop assisting her in the kitchen. That has to go for good, that should be one of the consequences of that behaviours of hers to send
   her a very strong message.
3. Apologizes only when you wrong her.

watch closely her reactions to these changes and make amendments when necessary. You need be firm with her at this moment and may later get a little soft when there is any changes from her. You must stand firm on some important issues.
