Renowned civil society coalition, the Transition Monitoring Group (TMG) has said former President, Olusegun Obasanjo should stand trial if indicted by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. Obasanjo had alleged in a statement on Friday that the Buhari-led Government was trying to frame him up so as to be prosecuted and detained. However, TMG, the umbrella organization of more than 400 Non Governmental Organisations, NGOs, in the country speaking through its chairperson, Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi in a statement said the threat highlighted by Obasanjo sounds unreal. The group noted that nobody was above the law, hence government was free to try the former President over any corruption charges. The statement read “This does not sound like a real threat though. However, the former President has raised an issue that deserves attention, he needs to prove since he has alleged the existence of threats. “However, nobody is above the law, if he has questions to answer, the Government should be free to take him up on it. “After all former President of South Africa was tried for corruption, so what’s is wrong in trying him? “The war against corruption should have no bounds.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/obasanjo-not-above-law-should-stand.html

Lesego Daniel, the South African pastor who makes his members eat grass and drink petrol, has gone a step further by performing miracles using a live snake. In photos shared online, the prophet wrapped his pet snake around a cross made in the shape of a cobra head. This happened during their communion service. The controversial prophet placed the snake in the middle of the communion which was later distributed to members to eat and drink. Sanctify Lesego's members seemed to have no qualms about having a snake in their midst and consuming the communion "sanctified" by the snake. The Middle Belt Youth Coalition, MBYC, has accused the Nigeria Police of plotting against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, concerning allegations leveled against him by some suspects involved in the Offa bank robbery incident. The National Coordinator of MBYC, Abbah Emmanuel, at a media conference held in Abuja accused the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, of deliberate attack on the person of Saraki and the entire National Assembly. According to Emmanuel, the move by police was a total frame up targeted at tarnishing Saraki’s image and political career. The statement read: “We have hereby observed the recent events unfolding in the country. For some time, the Executive branch of the government has been at loggerheads with the legislative branch. This has been a source of concern to the youths and general population of this country. This unwholesome state of affairs has now escalated to an unacceptable level. “To our absolute dismay, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, who refused to appear before the senate to explain the incessant killings across the country, has since then carried out a campaign to use the police brute force to deal with Senators. “He has now embarked on attacking the person of the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The conspiracy is to frame the Senate President for a robbery incident. “This is clearly aimed to destroy not only the person of the Senate President but also the institution that the Senate president represents. To make matters worse, the government rather than caution the IGP, embarked on withdrawing the security aides of the presiding officers. This is designed to make them even more vulnerable. “The latest venture will only serve to overheat the polity and destroy our hard earned democracy. If it continues unchecked, Nigeria will descend into anarchy. We therefore urge you to take immediate steps to caution this government from continuing along this unholy line.” Emmanuel alleged that the executive arm of government has been disregarding and disrespecting fundamental norms of democracy with no regard for the National Assembly. He cited the nomination of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, who was rejected but has continued to act in that capacity, arbitrary arrests of senators, recent invasion of the Senate chambers, and refusal of the IGP to appear on the Senate floor to address the issue of insecurity and incessant killings in the country as cases in point. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/offa-bank-robbery-middle-belt-youths.html

The Minister of state for Mines and Steel Development, Abubakar Bwari, on Monday said the federal government has no money to complete the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited. Bwari made this comment as an ad hoc committee of the House chaired by the Majority Leader, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, opened a public hearing into the troubled steel plant. The House is against the Federal Government’s plan to give the plant to private investor as a concession, and had taken up the former minister of Mines and Steel, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on the issue. The two bills, sponsored by 301 lawmakers, were, ‘A Bill for an Act to Provide for the Ajaokuta Steel Company Completion Fund for the Speedy Completion of the Project; and for Related Matters’ and ‘A Bill for an Act to Amend the Public Enterprises (Privatisation and Commercialisation) Act, Cap. P38, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to Review the List of Enterprises to be Privatised; and for Related Matters’. Bwari, who appeared before the Gbajabiamila committee to defend the government’s decision to give out the plant as a concession, said that the government could not complete the plant because it could not afford the cost. The minister stated, “With concession, the government will not put more money, but will appoint a reputable transaction adviser to move forward. Right now, the government does not have the funds. It is important that we hand it over to those who have the resources. “The government is even borrowing to run services. That is to tell you that there is no money.” Bwari added that it would cost the government far above the $500m to complete the plant and make it functional. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/why-nigerian-govt-cant-complete.html

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that the administration was on the right path in improving Nigeria’s business environment and diversifying the economy. Osinbajo made the submission in an interview with the Financial Timess, where he also said that the federal government’s investment in infrastructure would improve local manufacturing capacity, according to a script of the interview released by Mr. Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity. Osinbajo said that there had been a lot of damage to the environment in terms of business and others, but effecting the correction would take a while. He said that the administration is barely three years old, but is focused on doing the right thing. “The moment you have the right people and you put the right structures in place, you can do a lot, and I think we have been blessed with an incredibly good team. “We wanted us to be much farther ahead in terms of manufacturing. But a lot of these things are also infrastructure constraints that cannot be developed overnight, which explains why we are investing heavily in infrastructure. “We focus a great deal on diversifying; agriculture, manufacturing; we’ve focused on trying to diversify as much as possible, and we think that that is the path to go. There is no other way of doing this. “And if you look at the figures, there has been tremendous improvement, even export of raw materials, agriculture produce, even manufacturing has improved. I think that we are on the right path. I am convinced that we are going to stay the course.” Akande reproduced the interview conducted by Mr David Pilling, the Africa Editor of Financial Times on Thursday, May 31 at Eko Hotels and Suites. Below is the transcript Q: Views of critics that the Buhari administration didn’t make the most opportunity of the recession to diversify the economy. Vice President: First, the nature of the crisis, of course, even beyond low oil prices, we were also experiencing considerably reduced oil production. At some point, we were producing less than a million barrels of oil per day, that being the major source of revenue at the time. But I think that what we did during that period was also very important in bringing the strong outcome that we are seeing today. In terms of corruption, I think that we were able to deal with grand corruption. By that, I mean the sort of corruption where you found huge sums of money missing from the treasury and all of that. And because we were able to control grand corruption, we were able to do more with far less. So, for example, we invested N1.3 trillion in 2016 on capital for the very first time in almost 10 years of the country’s economic history. So, if we were able to invest more when oil prices at some point, were $50 or $60, than when oil prices were at $110, $114; especially on infrastructure and capital; I’m sure anyone could say that there is something wrong with that. I think we managed to do far more with less. Q: What else had been done by the administration? Vice President: If you look at the different sectors, let’s take agriculture, for example, we have recorded very significant growth in agriculture. We are looking to gain at least 3.6 per cent growth in agriculture. That is particularly important to us, because in thinking of diversification of our economy, agriculture is, of course, a fitting point, and we closed that gap. Take rice for example, we were importing rice in the order of about $1.6 billion a year, which is about $5 million every day. Today, we are down to importing just about two per cent of the rice that we consume. So we have at least, ramped up rice production, we are practically self-sufficient. Q: What role did government play in this regard? Vice President: No, it is creating the right environment. For example, the Anchors Borrowers Programme was an important programme in getting people back to the farms, and also, which is one very part of this whole process, we supported the big millers in being able to increase a lot of the paddy rice that was being produced. So there was a genuine effort to ensure that we are able to not just ramp up the production of rice, but also milling, and we found that the private sector responded to that, and we found the big millers, WACOT and others. Dangote is now investing about a million metric tonnes of milling capacity. I think that at this stage, agriculture has recorded significant improvement. Also mining, because of the focus on mining, growth continued through the recession and growth has continued even now… Q: Nigeria’s manufacturing capabilities. Vice President: We are trying to create the right environment for manufacturing, and for business generally. And we took time to focus on the business environment with our Ease of Doing Business initiative, and we worked on various areas, including access to credit, access to registration of title, company registration, taxation and all of those things. We looked at all of the different areas in our Ease of Doing Business, with a view to making life easier, to creating the right environment for manufacturing and for business generally. And we’ve recorded significant growth and this we are seeing in the growth that we are seeing today. I’m sure you are familiar with how our World Bank rating went up and we were also considered one of the best reforming countries in the world. Of course, there has been a lot of damage to the environment in terms of business and all that, but correcting that would take a while, don’t forget that we (this administration) are barely three years old. And we are focused on doing the right thing. Q: What areas hasn’t the administration been able to achieve all that it had planned to? Vice President: I think the one thing we wanted was for us to be much farther ahead in terms of manufacturing. But a lot of these things are also infrastructure constraints that cannot be developed overnight; which explains why we are investing heavily in infrastructure; rail, road and power, especially rail. This is the significant part of the investment that we are doing; concessioning the Lagos-Kano to General Electric, the narrow gauge, developing the standard gauge is important in terms of just movement of goods and all that. A lot of these initiatives would be a great help in moving goods. Q: Why hasn’t Nigeria signed the African Free Trade Agreement yet? Vice President: Nigeria has one of the most vibrant private sectors. Manufacturers associations, in particular, and several others felt that we shouldn’t go into this without further consultations, and we wanted to know exactly what specifically in terms of negotiations that will follow the signing of the framework. And it was the President’s opinion that it would be much wiser for us to suspend the signing until all of those engagements had been done to the satisfaction of the private sector. We work very closely with the private sector in practically everything that we have done. For us, it is important to sit back, take a look at those negotiations first before heading into the framework, which is really what we are doing at the moment. So, where we are is that we are looking at the nitty gritty and we are trying to be sure how it is going to play for our private sector people, for industry, for trade, etc. We are not saying we are going to renegotiate the framework; the framework is already there. Our greater concern is for the specifics. And we are at a point where before we go into that, we will certainly make sure that we are happy with the terms and conditions. Q: How is the administration tackling Nigeria’s security challenges? Vice President: First of all, let me say that the nature of the security threats is asymmetric coping with it. And this is the same with countries all over the world; coping with terrorism is the sort of thing that most countries are grappling with. I think that we are dealing with that as well. And my take is that the way we are going about it is the right way, in other words, we are working with partners in the sub-region to ensure that we are able to stem the flow of small arms for example. We are also working on developing our local capacity. One of the strong initiatives that we are pushing is community policing; because a lot of the terrorism that you see are the sorts of opportunistic attacks that require local policing. And one of the strong initiatives that we are pushing is the whole question of the state police; more local and community policing, and we are working on those initiatives with the governors, like in the National Economic Council, which I have the privilege of chairing. We are trying to see how we can do more in terms of local policing, intelligence gathering, in order to be able to respond much more quickly to some of the threats that we see. For example, in Benue State, we have deployed Special Forces now to several of the places where we have the disturbances. So, it is an ongoing engagement, and, as I said, asymmetric threat of this nature means that we just have to keep planning ahead as much as we can. Q: Criticisms of government’s efforts in tackling herdsmen/farmers clashes. Vice President: If you look at the herdsmen/farmers clashes, it is a different type of problem (to the issue of Boko Haram) and it has to be dealt with differently. Note that this crisis did not start with the Buhari government. These clashes have been going on for years. I think we are at a point that we believe that the right response; our response, has to be robust to ensuring that we are able to keep communities safe, which is what is going on. We are doing that in various parts of the North central. Q: On Nigeria’s dependence on oil revenue. Vice President: I think that what we are doing is that we are managing our finances far better. Today oil prices are about $80 a barrel. Our reserves are at $47 billion, which is the highest in about 10 years, comparable to 2013 when oil prices were higher. So beside the Sovereign Wealth Fund, we have invested far more; we’ve almost tripled our investment in the Sovereign Wealth Fund. I think the question about whether you spend or you don’t spend is really more a question of how you manage the resources in the first place. For us, I think that the management of resources has been a strong point. I think we have managed our resources well. Which explains why we focus a great deal on diversifying; agriculture, manufacturing. We’ve focused on trying to diversify as much as possible, and we think that it is the path to go. There is no other way of doing this. And if you look at the figures, there has been tremendous improvement, in the export of raw materials, agriculture produce, even manufacturing has improved. I think that we are on the right path. I am convinced that we are going to stay the course. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/breaking-nigeria-on-right-path-osinbajo.html

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has lamented that Transparency International, TI, and other non-governmental organisations, NGOs, in Nigeria have constituted themselves as an opposition party against the All Progressives Congress, APC-led federal government. TI recently identified security votes as one of the most durable forms of corruption in Nigeria, revealing that government in the build-up to elections expanded the use of opaque $670 million-a-year funds that fuel corruption. Mohammed maintained that many civil society organisations in the country fail to appreciate the fight against corruption by the current administration. He said this in Abuja while playing host to the Chair of TI, Delia Ferreria Rubio, and the Executive Director of Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, the local chapter of TI, Auwal Rafsanjani. Mohammed was quoted in a statement issued by CISLAC on Wednesday as saying, “TI and CISLAC fail to see and appreciate the sociological dynamics of fighting corruption. “They do not look at the picture but condemn the efforts of the government, like in the case of the Corruption Perception Index. NGOs have constituted themselves as an opposition party. There should be constant interaction with the government instead.” The minister, however, welcomed the TI chair to Nigeria and thanked her for making Nigeria her first point of call in Africa. Mohammed also told his guests that there was no government that has been as transparent as the current administration. Earlier in her remarks, Rubio told the minister that although rules were necessary, they were not enough. She said TI, through its local chapter in Nigeria, CISLAC, was willing to cooperate with the ministry in the fight against corruption. Rubio requested that the fight against corruption be institutionalised so that the same issues do not arise when another government assumes power. Reacting to the minister’s claims against NGOs, Auwal pointed out that the TI only collates the report of the perception of corruption from various institutions like the World Bank and analyses it. He said NGOs support the government whenever it is doing well and raise red flags in areas where government is not doing well. Auwal argued that CISLAC had in various capacities interacted with government and had assisted in capacity building in so many areas, an indication that the organisation is interested in the success of the country. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/transparency-international-others.html

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo and his party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), have announced plans to unveil a mega alliance in June. The move, according to the party, was part of the resolve to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019. National Chairman of ADC, Okey Nwosu, told ThisDay that ADC has opened talks with about 30 other registered political parties in the country. Nwosu said, “We have started the reorganisation of the party, and by June, we are going to address the nation on the way forward and the promise ADC has for Nigerians. “By June, we are going to address the nation on the way forward and what ADC has in stock for Nigeria and Africa. “We are just working on a document to create a continental brand from the ADC, a model political party like no one before.” Of what would become of the present leadership of ADC after the merger, Nwosu said, “Our party had its last national convention in 2015 and at that time, we said the founding national executives could continue in their offices until such a time that the party will start to take a real life. “With this fusion we are undergoing now and the membership we have, I feel we are taking a new life. So any moment from now we are going to fix our convention. “The most important thing for people like me is that I have founded a party that eminent Nigerians approve as a proper vehicle to address the inadequacies that brought about the political situation in our country. “So I am fulfilled and I am like a missionary on a mission of nation-building. Position doesn’t matter to me and most members of the party. My preoccupation from now on is how to move this party to the Villa and state government houses in Nigeria.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/2019-obasanjos-adc-30-parties-in-talks.html

Saraki calls for release of Leah Sharibu, Chibok girls Deji Elumoye, Omololu Ogunmade in Abuja and Abimbola Akosile in Lagos As the world marks Children’s Day today, President Muhammadu Buhari last night in Abuja tasked the security operatives, families, civil society organisations, traditional rulers, and religious bodies to rise up against increasing violence against children. The president’s charge was preceded by a call by Senate President Bukola Saraki, who took the opportunity of the day’s celebrations to renew the widespread calls for the immediate release of the lone Dapchi schoolgirl, Leah Sharibu, and the remaining Chibok girls still being held in captivity by Boko Haram insurgents. In his Children’s Day speech made available to journalists late last night, Buhari said the increasing spate of violence against children was unacceptable and that decisive steps must be taken to ensure the protection of children in homes, schools, markets and worship centres. According to him, the federal government, in its own effort to protect children from abuse and exploitation, has directed the management of all federal government schools to put in place adequate measures that will guarantee the security of their students. He also said various states of the federation and management of all public and private schools should put the machinery in place for the protection of students. Buhari advised parents to ensure that they send their children, especially the girl child, to school, observing that girl child education stems the tide of maternal mortality and child marriage. He further tasked security agents to increase their efforts towards the protection of children. “In our efforts to protect our children from abuse, exploitation and trafficking as well as provide safe, non-violent inclusive and effective learning environment in our schools, this administration has directed the management of all Federal Government Colleges and advised all state owned schools across the country to provide adequate measures of safety and security for their students,” he said. In his own goodwill message in Abuja, Saraki called for the release of all school girls under the captivity of the insurgents. He said, “We make an unequivocal call for the release of all Nigerian children in captivity. We remember Leah Sharibu and the other Dapchi girls as well as those Chibok girls still in captivity, on this symbolic day. We affirm their right to freedom, to live carefree with their loved ones, to go to school, and for their dreams to remain intact.” The senate president’s call coincided with the United Nations Children’s Fund’s pledge to partner with the federal government to end violence against children in Nigeria. Saraki urged all relevant authorities not to relent in the efforts to see that Sharibu and all who are held captive are returned safe and unharmed. “We must intensify efforts for the release of our children, even as we felicitate with the families of all who have been released,” the senate president said. Saraki also emphasised that the safety of Nigerian children was non- negotiable, noting that the Children’s Day gives the country an opportunity to celebrate the young ones and to fully consider the important place they occupy in the heart of the nation. He insisted that no Nigerian child should go to bed hungry, just as due attention must be paid to their health as part of the vision to make the country stronger. According to him, “This is also a day to rededicate ourselves to the cause of children. It is a day to recommit ourselves to doing all in our power to ensure that children are protected and empowered to aspire to be great in life, and to remove all impediments in their way.” UNICEF, FG Pledge to End Violence Meanwhile, UNICEF has pledged its commitment to end violence against children in Nigeria. UNICEF Deputy Representative in Nigeria, Mr. Isiye Ndombi, gave the assurance in an interview in Abuja yesterday. Ndombi decried violence against children in the country and promised that the organisation was determined to mobilise the will and resources to tackle all forms of violence against children wherever it occurred. He described violence against children as pervasive, adding that it occurs in the home, school, work place and “online.” According to him, perpetrators often include the very people children are expected to trust – parents, caregivers and other family members, friends, teachers, and intimate partners. He said, “We are currently re-analysing the 2014 Violence Against Children Survey (VACS) findings to gain an even deeper understanding of the drivers of violence against children. “We are also supporting our government partners to launch our National Plan of Action to End VAC by 2030, alongside a national Social Norms Change Strategy. We are supporting the government to track and monitor reported cases to end the menace.” Ndombi noted that violence against children affected them for life, saying that the marks are sometimes visible bruises and broken bones. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/buhari-moves-to-combat-violence-against.html

The Presidency has replied former President Goodluck Jonathan’s that he was ashamed to be called a Nigerian. It said Jonathan has every reason to be ashamed because he brought shame to the country and made her a laughing stock in the comity of nations. Jonathan was quoted to have said, “I feel ashamed as a former President that the President of a neighbouring country used Nigeria as negative examples. “If a neighbouring African President will use Nigeria to make negative examples, then we as leaders must know certain things are wrong in the country.” Reacting, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu said that Nigeria was a paria nation under the previous administration but that the country has started gaining back respect in the government. He said, “Who put us there. He is the one in the mirror, who put us there? The picture is of himself. Let him look at the mirror. So what else does he want to see. “President Buhari is trying to clean up the mess and he is doing a good job of it. please they should allow him time to do this thing. “We are gaining back our respectability globally even the citizens when they travel out of the country, they are better respected than they were before. “It was a big shame but we are happy that Mr. Jonathan himself is realising this and hope that his political party will own up what they did to the country. “He made Nigeria a laughing stock, if other countries are laughing at Nigeria, who put us there? Are they not the one?” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/you-made-nigeria-laughing-stock.html

Fixes July 3 for Channels TV to play DVD of alleged prejudicial statement By Alex Enumah in Abuja The Federal High Court, Abuja, yesterday closed the case of former Spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh standing trial on alleged N400m money laundering charges. The closure was sequel to the absence of Chief Metuh and his counsel at the trial on two consecutive occasions, since Metuh’s fall in court and subsequent admission at the National Hospital, Abuja. The trial judge, Justice Okon Abang, in a bench ruling on an application by the prosecution counsel, Sylvanus Tahir, seeking an order of the court closing the case of the first defendant (Metuh) said the court had adjourned the matter till yesterday for the cross examination of the 11th Defence witness, Oladeji Bamidele and expressed worry over the absence of the first defendant and his counsel in court. He stated that the court had, on January 25, 2018 granted Metuh’s application dated January 19, 2018 to call additional seven witnesses to the nine he had already called and ordered that the seven witnesses should be in court at all times to give evidence, as the court will not grant any other adjournment in the matter at the instance of the first defendant. While noting that the order of the court, which was not appealed against subsists, Justice Abang noted that neither Metuh nor any of his counsel was in court for the trial yesterday and that no reason was given for their absence as well as to state why the matter should be adjourned. “The first defendant (Metuh) has abandoned his defence and the absence of his counsel shows lack of interest in the defence of the first defendant. “The first defendant is also not in court to call any of his witness to give evidence in the matter. “The only option the court has now is to close the case of the first defendant. I rely on Section 6 (b) of the constitution to close the case of the first defendant. “I cannot manufacture an application for adjournment for the first defendant, therefore, the case of the first defendant is now closed”, Justice Abang stated and slated July 2, 2018 for the second defendant (Destra Investments Limited) to open its defence in the matter. Meanwhile, in the same proceedings, one Kelechi Nwaiwu, announced representation for Channels Television, which was summoned to appear in court yesterday to show cause why the station should not be asked to play the video recording of the Sunrise daily programme of Channels Television, where an alleged prejudicial statement was made by one Ben Chuks Nwosu, a counsel in Metuh’s legal team. Nwaiwu told the court that the station was not only represented in court but has also filed an affidavit showing cause and an unedited DVD of the Sunrise daily programme of the station aired on May 22, 2018. Justice Abang commended the prompt response of the Channels Television, by producing the unedited DVD of the programme, even before it was asked. The Judge adjourned the matter till July 2, 2018 and ordered Channels Television to be in court on July 3, 2018 with their equipment to play the DVD of the programme in the open court to enable the court determine whether the station allowed its station to be used to broadcast prejudicial statement, to misinform the public on a pending matter before the court, thereby bringing the court into disrepute. Metuh and his company, Destra Investments Limited are being prosecuted by the federal government for allegedly receiving the sum of N400 million from the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Mohammed Dasuki (rtd) and using same to fund political activities of his party during the 2015 general elections. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/court-closes-metuhs-case-on-alleged.html

Nicki Minaj has confirmed to a fan that she is dating rap legend Eminem. In an Instagram post, a fan quizzed the ‘Chun Li’ rapper about whether the rumours were true that she was dating Slim Shady and she responded with a simple ‘yes’. Whether she’s just messing with all of us or being dead-set, no one knows. She mentions Eminem in her latest song ‘Big Bank’ with YG, 2 Chainz and Big Sean when she says: “Uh oh/Back again/Back to back Maybach, stack the M’s/Told em’ I met Slim Shady, bag the M/Once he go black, he’ll be back again.” Minaj has dated Safaree Samuels, Meek Mill and Nas and has been linked to Drake and Lil Wayne in the past but that trio has denied any romantic links. The singer said last year that she was trying to stay away from guys, telling Ellen DeGeneres: “I’m just chilling right now, I’m celibate. I wanted to go a year without dating any men, I hate men. But I might make an exception to the rule for him. Eminem on the other hand has been rumours to have dated a few people but there’s been no confirmation he had dated anyone else apart from his ex-wife Kimberly Scott. The 40-year-old revealed late last year that he was trying to put himself out there, but it was tough. He told Vulture: “It’s tough. Since my divorce I’ve had a few dates and nothing’s panned out in a way that I wanted to make it public. Dating’s just not where I’m at lately.” When quizzed about how he was looking for potential Mrs Mathers, he said Tinder and ‘I also used to go to strip clubs’. “What can I say? Going to strip clubs is how I was meeting some chicks,” he told the site. “It was an interesting time for me.” He added to Rolling Stone: “As far as going out, like dinner and a movie – I just can’t. Going out in public is just too crazy. I mean, I’d like to be in a relationship again someday. Who doesn’t? It’s just hard to meet new people, in my position.” To be fair, Eminem and Minaj are two of the biggest names in rap music and the music industry in general. They wouldn’t be able to pop in for a cheeky Nando’s, chow down on some chicken and stare lovingly into each other’s eyes without every single person watching them. Hopefully they’ve found a good place to just enjoy each other’s company and, look, we’d be lying if we said we didn’t want to see the pair collaborate for a couple’s album. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/nicki-minaj-confirms-shes-in.html

The Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Zone A, Nigeria Customs Service, has reportedly impounded 10 luxury vehicles belonging to E-Money, a popular music promoter, over under-payment of duty on the vehicles. The vehicles, said to have been cleared by officers and men of Apapa Customs Command, were intercepted by officials of FOU, following a tip-off about the value of duty paid on them. A source at FOU confirmed the seizure to Vanguard, explaining that E-Money himself had visited the Unit to try and take back custody of the vehicles, but that FOU leadership had insisted on complete payment of duty before the vehicles can be released to him. Vanguard gathered that the popular promoter paid over N6 million duty and the vehicles released to him. This was confirmed by the Customs Area Controller, CAC, Garba Mohammed, who said: “We have released the vehicles to him. He came and paid over N6 million. I think about N6.7 million or thereabouts.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/customs-impounds-e-moneys-10-luxury.html

Many Nigerians have taken to their favorite social media platforms to react to President Buhari‘s eulogy of former military dictator, General Sani Abacha. President Buhari today said no matter how anybody feels or what they think, former military dictator, General Sani Abacha, contributed immensely to the infrastructural development of the country during his time in office. President Buhari said this when he hosted the Buhari Support Organisation (BSO), led by Hameed Ali, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), today May 22nd. According to the president, Nigeria’s civilian presidents before and after Abacha spent billions of naira in infrastructure yet have had little to show for it. “I have to repeat what I want public to know here. Some of you may not have heard it. Either there is no power in your place or even in the television, I said and I challenge anybody to check from Europe, Asia and America. Between 1999 and 2014, Nigeria was getting 2.1 million barrels per day at average cost of $100 dollars per barrel. It went up to $143. So Nigeria was earning 2.1m million times 100 times 16 years seven days a week. When we came, it collapsed to $37-38 and it was oscillating between 40 and 54 sometimes. I went to the Governor of Central Bank; thank goodness I did not sack him; he is still there! I went with my cap in my hand but there were no savings, only debt. And you know more than I do the condition of the roads and some of them were not repaired since PTF days. No matter what opinion you have about Abacha, I agreed to work with him and the PTF road we did from here to Port Harcourt, to Onitsha, to Benin and so on. On top of other things in the institution, education, medical care and so on. You know the rail was killed and one of the former Heads of State between that time was bragging that he spent more than $15billion, not naira, on power. Where is the power? Where is the power? And now we have to pay the debts and this year and last year’s budgets I took to the National Assembly were the highest in capital projects: more than N1.3trillion. Let anybody come and confront me publicly in the National Assembly. What have they been doing? Some of them have been there for 10 years. What have they been doing? So, really, this country, luckily for me, I said it about eight years [ago] that we have no other country than Nigeria, we should remain here and salvage it together no matter what you have outside” he said See some reactions below; http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/nigerians-react-as-president-buhari.html
