From what I can glean from your post, your dad's attitude is the main reason you want to leave. My take is that you patiently wait till you get married before leaving because leaving now will only serve to infuriate him more and those you leave behind (mom and siblings) will have increased trouble to deal with.

As we all know, many people believe the children of pastors are mostly wayward.
I for example, I'm a female and my dad is a pastor in Deeper life Bible Church and trust me I've been looking for ways to leave the church. My dad isn't even helping matters, he has serious temper issues that makes him say things that gets me, my mum and siblings angry. I really do not see myself getting married in his church. Please tell me if I'm doing the right thing. Because i feel we all have our lives to live.
I need your advice because I'm already fed up of my dad's attitude and the church's doctrines.

You can also share similar experiences. If you have any
Thank you.

If u are a graduate and working stand on your feet now or they will tell u when to get pregnant and have kids, the annoying thing is during their time they got all the free will that's why must of them marry early

Bostin:
What a perfect topic at the right time. Before now I used to see Deeper life people as the only saint going to heaven not until I married there daughter. Am feeling hell as I type now with a woman born and raised in Deeper life though she claimed she now attend RCCG. My father inlaw is late before I met my wife and the mother must compulsory remarried at age of 55yrs. Anytime I have issues with my wife as she's stubborn type, when her mum heard about it,she will claimed is because we don't attend Deeper life marriage committee that is why we are having issues. Instead to give my wife moral instructions when things happen, she always condemn her and get my wife more frustrated and confused, now my wife has left home with her mum's support. When I asked the mother where is my wife, she said my wife has gone to search for work, I asked where but she refused to tell me. Mother inlaw even said no man can stop her from her work not even her husband when alive.

Lesson learn ; they only worship doctrine not the true word of God.
You probably married a backsliden, Judas Iscariot or unrepentant member of the Church. The ones you will marry and have no problem with by God's grace will refer you to their spiritual fathers (Pastors) thereafter, the marriage committee of the church will interact with you and in most cases God helps them to know whether the outsider like you may be a wife beater or not. I mean they are able to discern who you are, born again or not. I'm a member of the church and I have this to say. 99% of Deeper Life members who refuse to subject themselves to marriage committee supervision are mostly the shallow Life members. Compromising or not outrightly born again like Judas Iscariot.

I Must Tell You The Truth:
I Am Not A Member Of Deeper Life Bible Church But, That Church Is One Of The Few Churches In Nigeria Where The Truth Of The Word Of God Is Being Heard And Practised. You Are Free To Go To Any Other Denomination Of Your Choice, But I Must Tell You That Churches Like Deeper Life Are Few. Most Churches In Nigeria Are More Of A Social Club Where People Are Being Entertained.

Careful Sis
I perceive you feel honestly justified until you reverse the table and see your own child doing exactly the same for you.

At that time, your views would be ultraconservative to your child. Like
"...Satan is a morning star: I want to be going to the Luciferian Church.

You will then most likely feel like your parent felt when you declared your independence
But at 24, she is an adult who could choose her own religion.

Please stay a little longer till you are independent. Do him that honor, along the line, you can attend programs from any other denomination you feel like. Their (Your Parent) number of years will become fewer as time comes by. Just help them live it in peace and rest.

God bless you dear.

Am sorry i picked holes in what you said. I personally seen ladies born and brought up in Deeper Life getting married outside the church. Has anyone turned up for marriage and your parents rejected him cos of church stuff. Check up your life very well, something is wrong with it. I may not also blame your dad. Pastors children are supposed to live an exemplary life. Churches like Deeper Life discipline their Pastors for their wards wayward behaviour. Thus the strictness some of them employ in child training. Being a matured adult, talk things over with your dad and i believe he will see things wt you.

I get your point. But I was talking to you purely as a Christian.

Children obey your parents in the Lord (in all things).

As long as one is dependent on ones parent and they are not leading you to hell/against God, this is valid!

We feel justified until the table gets turned

Well, the truth is that like all cults, if you dare leave our brotherhood, we will make your life so effing difficult for you.

I was in a dilema as yours, I just recently lost the true love of my life because of the fixation of policies I got stuck in my brain through deeper life doctrine.

I let her go because I know my mum and dad will reject her because she is too beautiful and from a Christ embassy.

I was weak to hold on to what makes me happy because i was scared to be named as a cast away....but right now, I bluntly told myself and parents, that I got my life to live, I already left the church. Why?

1. Because I want to be in a an environment where I can sing and dance to worship God, because it makes me happy.

2. I want to be free to make a choices that makes me happy.

3. I truly want the directions of God to choose the best woman to marry and not policies...

And so on.

Basically, you are the architect of your own life, if your mind is not in that church anymore, it might be better to move on, the back bone of religion is to set you free and not enslave you in anyway, but you also have to be wise about it, because your dad is involved, look for a church that feels right with your spirit and start attending their mid-week service, but make sure you don't become a rebel.

i do not think its the church you have a problem with but ur disciplinarian dad....
You see my dear ... deeper life to me is one of the few churches that doesn't dilute the true word of God...
Your focus should be 'Heaven' and not changing church...
I believe every church has its own grace ... you might not be aware of the grace u are enjoying there until you leave .... and about marital life ... Pray and don't loose focus

I would advise you not to take a confrontational approach.
Ask to speak to your dad when he is in a good mood.
Praise on how he has raised an intelligent and responsible kid.
Ask him if he thinks he is proud of the person you have become and can entrust you to make your decisions in certain issues.
Most probably, he would say yes.
Then, break it down gently for him and let it hang as if you will respect anything he decides.

Same experience here. Got tired of the monotony of the church and just decided while in the mass that I wasn't ever going to continue this charade because of my parents. Got home and bought a strong decode to follow TB Joshua services, back then..... Problem was that while his choir were very good and ministered to me, he wasn't really a teacher and I wanted somebody to teach me about getting God and not just show me his power in the form of miracles.

I got bored until an old woman invited me to my present church and to be frank, the first day I entered the church could be described as the first time I ever listened to a life transforming message, from any altar.

My parents, particularly my dad was aghast but man, it is my life and I told them in a meeting that I don't like wasting my time and going with them to mass is like a waste of time because nothing stirs me during the service.

Today I read the Bible without any encouragement from anybody

exactly.even.God doesn't want you to worship him because your parents insists.he WANTS a willing, free will worship from the heart and not to satisfy your parents.hence my statement if you're going to church to please your parents you're wasting your time.If There's a compulsion or an external influence pressuring you to go to a particular church there is likelihood that you won't receive anything because everything the pastor is saying will be irritating YOU

But when you are in a place you feel fulfilled in,nobody will tell YOU.it's you that will knows and that's when you can flourish thrive and have a Better understanding of the bible.not Nigerian cultural understanding of the bible. There's a difference

hi hope you're ok I've read your brief write up what you are going through is not unique and has happened to many christians. I also used to attend deeper life many years ago so I know where you're coming from. First off make sure you're leaving the church for the right reasons at the end of the day when you go to meet your maker he will not ask you which church you attended but rather how you lived your life as a christian.

To answer your question specifically I would advise you adopt these two options number one call your parents especially your father being a pastor I assume and hope he's reasonable. Sit him down and explain to him why you don't want to attend his church again be very clear about your reasons because he will obviously want to counter yours explain to him that it will be hypocritical of you to continue to attend a church whose doctrines you don't completely agree with. Apologize to him that you know because he's a pastor how bad he will look that as an adult you feel you would want to explore your spiritual journey in another church but you will always look up to him as your father both spiritually and biological and also you will always love him.

If option number one doesn't go to plan and as Yorubas say 'o da si rough' I will suggest you find your own place and move out of his house. Please don't abuse or disrespect your parents as calm as possible continue to state your reasons why you came to this decision.

Before taking this above mentioned steps I would suggest you pray and meditate on your bible may the good lord guide and direct you God bless
