yes.

get the necessary files and tools before hand, namely the stock roms for ur fone, both gingerbread and ics. the radios too if they are not included in the stock rom.

even where u flash custom roms and shit happens, u can easily get back to stock with ur usb cable.
PhonesRe: Android, Anyone? Part II by 4llerbuntu(m): 7:51pm On Sep 11, 2012
ur flash was bad.

do it again, follow d instructions carefully.

copy out ur memory card before flashing.

then format it.

put just the rom, if ur flashing from sdcard. if from pc, no need. just leave it empty.

after flashing, copy just ur music, pictures and essential files like game data back on it. DO NOT COPY ALL THE ANDROID EYC FOLDERS, JUST UR PERSONAL DATA.

do not restore your apps with data If u restore, restore just apps.

remember to flash the necessary radio firmware too.

if u have issues, ASK WHERE U GOT THE ROM, NOT HERE WHERE NO ONE KNOWS WAT UR DOING.

IF UR FLASHING STOCK ROMS, REMEMBER U HAVE TO FLASH STOCK GB FIRST, BEFORE FLASHING STOCK ICS

the part i dont get is, with the kinda knowledge these cats have, it should be easy to redirect the identity/source of the hack to some unlucky grandma somewhere than getting themselves traced.

thats if its inevitable that they get traced. the cats that hack for the govt dont get traced no matter how hard other hackers try

anyway, take the following tips too.

ROOT YOUR PHONE no choice in this, you must to proceed

1. install adblock.

its on the market, it requires root.

2. disable autosync for your apps, leave only the essentials like google and email. go into account & sync in settings and untick them.

3. check your apps sync schedule. some sync every 5 minutes. i doubt if you need any app to sync every 5 minutes.

4. dont disable autosync completely unless you dont use the email app. it requires sync for push notifications.

5. learn to not fall into the trap of installing every app you see. there is no need for seperate apps for gtalk, facebook chat, yahoochat when just one app can do all of those! also for browsing, consider using operamini or UCBrowser, except you need javascript or flash, then you use the other full browser

6. you may also try an APP called DROIDWALL!.
its like a firewall application that you can use to deny applications, even system applications acess to the internet.

you may use this instead of LBE privacy guard. but dont use both at the same time!!!!

for droid wall it has two modes, you either select applications that have access (whitelist) or select those that do not have access(blacklist) you can stop system aps too, but be careful which ones u block.

7. Debloat your phone. a lot of the stock OEM apps on your phone are useless, you dont use them, they use your data and they slow your phone down.

install an app called TITANIUM BACKUP. you can use that to either FREEZE any app including system apps. that way they dont show up in you app drawer or become active. (they are still on the phone and may be unfrozen
OR totally uinstall any application whatsoever, including those system apps that dont show up for removal in app manager. be careful not to remove any essentail app tho.

with the above, im very sure your data useage will reduce

NEVER EVER USE A TASK KILLER OR BATTERY DEFENDER BLA BLA BLA. IT WILL KILL YOUR BATTERY AND REALLY STRESS YOUR PHONE
PhonesRe: REQUEST; How To Monitor Internet Usage, Android Users... by 4llerbuntu(m): 8:03am On Sep 11, 2012
there are many of those. i just cannot remember any off the top of my head right now.

why not search the market. .

a good app i think u may try is LBE Privacy Guard actually i consider it an essential app.
with that you can configure the app to know precisely what application has what permissions, deny certain applications certain permissions.

eg. if you have a flashlight application, you may find out that the app actually activates your GPS, your Internet data, has access to your phone book! the question is why does a flashlight app want to have access to those things?

with LBE you can block it from having those permissions.

that also helps you to know which apps are using the internet, and you can deny them access to it.

im not exactly sure now, but i think it also has a data monitor inbuilt.

i personally dont use it anymore because i have no need for an app to do those things. i can do it granularly but i definitely recommend its use.

deols: Am a novice when it comes to phone stuffs. So pardon my
errors pls.

I dont know what the KIEs is and donno how to flash the firm ware. Will try option 1.

Its Samsung Galaxy note GT-N7000. 16GB
I got a notification to do d update and just went ahead wv it.
erm ok. so did the update complete successfully? if it did read on.
but if it did not, you may have to flash the firmware.

what lynxnoon said should work, but so as just to be completely sure:

i suggest u do a factory reset. back up ur contacts to you google account. ordinarily if u have sync on, that should be done already.

but note that you will lose all other info on the phone including installed applications.

that said, if you have a memory card in it, i suggest you also format it. (this is because config files and stuff from the older rom are on it and may be causing conflict with the new os update)

you can copy out your pictures and music tracks etc from it before formatting it

PhonesRe: Android, Anyone? Part II by 4llerbuntu(m): 5:23pm On Sep 10, 2012
which type of update are we talking about here?

which fone precisely, model Number?

option one, wipe the data and cache of each misbehaving app in settings/applications.

option two, do a factory reset.

u lose ur contacts, apps etc.

option three, flash the firmware. get a very good internet, hook up the tablet to the internet via the pc suite. search for updates.

or else flash it via KIES

PhonesRe: Android, Anyone? Part II by 4llerbuntu(m): 3:36pm On Sep 10, 2012
for example. let me share this with my longsuffering friend kazekage and any other pserson who may be interested.

needed:
Root Explorer or any file manager with root access
obviously root access

fingers.

how to:

use the file manager and Go to /system/lib/egl/

There you will find a file called libGlES_android.so.

Just move that file from that folder to another place. (if its not there, then your ROM cook already removed it)

Best thing is to create a backup folder inside that place.

exit and reboot.

Now run the quadrant test you should see much higher fps in the last 2 tests.

1-2 fps increase is there in the first 2 tests tongue

Explanation
It turns out the quadrant standard was using a feature of OpenGL which was not properly supported or implmented in the PowerVR drivers

So it was using software rendering(i.e the CPU instead of the GPU).

by simply moving that file (if it is present), you increase your FPS by 2x and give your fone a massive 3D boost!!!

useful for all suffering low end fone users on stock roms too

puskin: Thanks......anything STOCK....over-tweaked or under-tweaked.....supercharged or undercharged.......NOT INTERESTED.......besides, I never even experiment with all the custom ROMs wey full XDA that I will start to contemplate a comeback to STOCK.

Anything STOCK should wait........I'm still touring custom ROMs that don't have a semblance of STOCK in it
hehehehehe, broderly.... ye haveth eyes but ye seeeth not.

A stock Rom and a Custom Rom are the same things. a custom rom is a stock rom that has been modded.

if you know what to do ye will mod your own rom to suit your own tastes and needs. believe you me.

as per the looks part, all you need is root explorer, usb, a good internet connection and UOT kitchen. you will create the look that catches your fancy yourself.

the most important thing is the Kernel, and the build.prop. get a great kernel, know your build.prop tweaks. BING!!!

PhonesRe: Essential Android Apps! by 4llerbuntu(m): 4:17pm On Sep 08, 2012
go into settings/applications. click on d apps and check to be sure if they r on phone memory or sdcard.

if u see option move to sdcard, then they r on d phone, if u see move to phone, they r on d sdcard.

thats just to check .

u will also see the quantity of cache space they use on d sdcard. u can click clear so the cache is deleted.

then u can go to each individual app settings and change the amount of space that they use as cache. most apps allow u to specify. d size of cache.

like i said earlier, most likely u have apps that cache aggressively. eg maps., on the fone. for example on my fone goal app, ucweb store pictures and stuff from pages i visit on the memory card. this is so thay next time i visit, it does not need to download those items again. some other apps like games store states and save games.

then go to the settings in so

Bawss1: The line in bold caught my eye. What informed this observation?
Do you see HTC or samsung making a WP phone that has the hardware quality of these Nokia products immediately?

They cannot/will not be allowed to get to the market before Nokia.

Given a choice of buying a WP phone, which would you buy? a Lumia or other manufacturers? it will take a major miracle for any oother manufacturer to produce a product that actually matches these Lumias AND MARKET THEM. the marketing effort sef na big hurdle.

note that the other manufacturers do not have the advantage of being Microsoft's baby. the entry point and costs for them are high.
In this game as shown for WP7 fones, Microsoft is willing to bankroll Nokia and write off large losses, absorb their financial issues.

Nokia also does not pay license fees to Microsoft, the other manufacturers will have to for WP8. they got waivers for WP7 tho, yet market was bad. Nokia moved 7 Million units, i dont think the other manufacturers moved 5 million combined!

Building and marketing a phone is not beans, its a high risk investment. when you are not sure of even breaking even, its better not to go into it.

Bottomline is, it may be too expensive/risky to compete with Nokia on WP8 at the start. if and when it gains market share, then maybe pple will think about going into it.
