@Bigben431

Seriously, you are talking utter garbage. The fundamental thing, if this story is true, is that we have a local cement company that purports to be as valuable as the world's largest cement company.

Effectively, investors are going to be fleeced as they will be buying into a hideously inflated valuation at that price with Dangote on the other side of the trade.

Their excuses no dey ever stop. I heard Wenger blamed PDP rotation policy for his refusal to win a trophy. He said the PDP agreed that it's not Arsenal's turn to win trophies for the next 50 years as they have won enough.

As that great sage Emmanuel Adebayor noted, Arsenal will soon be overtaken by Man City. You folks should take note of the words of a wise man such as Ade.

Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie has been ruled out of action until the middle of October.

The Holland international picked up an ankle injury during the 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers on August 28.

The Gunners had hoped to have Van Persie back sooner rather than later but the problem turned out to be more serious than first thought.

Knowing how benighted and resistant to empirical data my fellow Nigerians can be, I thought I paste a couple more examples of white people lying against us:

The general prevalence of poverty in Nigeria is paradoxical because the country is one of the biggest oil-producing countries in the world, yet 70% of the population lives on less than US$1 a day.

The book by Mustapha C. Duze, Habu Mohammed & Ibrahim A. Kiyawa raises a number of questions:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&channel=s&hl=en&source=hp&q=poverty+in+Nigeria&meta=&btnG=Google+Search

See a quote from one of these white people, Dr. Isaac Busayo Oluwatayo, who hates Nigeria so much
:The distribution of respondents by income level is shown in Table 9 and it is clear that over half (55.4 percent)
of those surveyed earn less than N10, 000 as income. Those earning between N10, 001 and N20, 000
constitute about 35.0 percent while only about 8.6 percent earn above N20, 000.
The distribution generally
indicates that the income level of respondents is very low considering the average household size of 7. Thus
income per capita (a measure of the level of wellbeing) is also very low going by the US one dollar a day as
the minimum for subsistence for households in developing countries.
Dr. Isaac Busayo Oluwatayo is a Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension Services, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, University of Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria. He had his PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

http://www.iese.ac.mz/lib/publication/II_conf/CP41_2009_Oluwatayo.pdf

Well, who needs research when we can conjecture figures out of thin air to make us feel better about Naija.

http://allafrica.com/stories/201001280540.html

The 2010 Global Monitoring Report (GMR) of the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which revealed that about 92 per cent of the Nigerian population survive on less than $2 daily, while about 71 per cent survive on less than $1 daily, is a major embarrassment for the supposed 'Giant of Africa.'
Take your pick:http://www.google.co.uk/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&channel=s&hl=en&source=hp&q=poverty+in+Nigeria&meta=&btnG=Google+Search

I suppose it's all lies. These white people will go to any length to rubbish our image.

@TKB

You are asking me for research on this matter. Do you think the innumerable studies showing that most Nigerians live on less than a dollar a day is the product of the kind of brainless conjecture you guys produce? The claim is the product of research, not one but numerous studies. Researchers have gone to various parts of Nigeria and come back with the same conclusion.

Honeric even acknowledges this by stating that he has been hearing the same thing for over a decade, a tacit admission that the claim is not a one off but has effectively stood the test of time. My own personal experience is that a lot of Nigerians scrape by on peanuts.

Weed is bad for you.

Most of una wey dey stay for places like Lagos and PH are as clueless about many parts of Naija as someone living in London. Please don't give me crap about your occasional visits to rural areas. As someone who grew up in a small town, I think I've a better idea of income levels outside the big cities. Most people's annual income will be between 10k and 14k, by the time you divide that by the size of the household, you come up with less than a dollar a day.

My personal experience is backed up by research by disinterested researchers. The only reason you are ranting is out of your warped sense of national pride. Immediately you see British attached to a perceived ''belittling'' of Naija, inferiority complex takes over your brain.

What's exactly wrong with Ade's comments? City are seen as strong rivals to Arsenal and if they notch up a winning run, they're going to be seen as the biggest threat to the big boys, Chelsea and Man Utd. When you guys quit sucking Wenger's knob, you will start to reason.

Nigerians lack an evidence based culture.

We're not statisticians or demographers but people who are trained to conduct these studies have concluded, on numerous occasions, that a majority of Nigerians still live on less than a dollar a day. Crucially, these people have little incentive to claim that Nigerians are poor. I don't accept Govt stats because our Govt has an incentive to spice up our image but even the Naija Govt stats do not contradict the claim that a majority of Nigerians live on less that a dollar a day.

Folks have visited the nooks and crannies of Nigeria conducting surveys on this issue and fantasists here are telling us that their cocooned life experience in cities is more informative. Most Nigerians do not have access to electricity and do not have a mobile phone. How many people in your daily life do you usually meet who don't have either?

The suggested poverty level makes sense given the size of our economy compared to our population.
