nolongTing:This is why I said you are not rational. The onus is clearly on those who assert the existence of something, in this case Western involvement in this bombing, to prove its existence. I cannot prove the negative. I think Boko Haram is involved because at least they state so and I do not deem the Islamists in Nigeria as Western agents Why do you on the other hand state that the West is involved without a shred of evidence showing their involvement? |
Instead of engaging in personal insults, can those who condemn GEJ for these attacks tell us specifically what they would do if they were the President which would end these attacks. What particular measures would you take that will end terrorism? |
Cap28, I know you are not a rational person but can you point to one shred of evidence that the West was involved in yesterday's attack in Abuja? |
It will take years of arduous work involving both intelligence operations and negotiations to defeat terrorism in Nigeria. I think we would see something similar to the Algerian civil war, you can call it the 2nd Nigerian civil war. It will get worse before it gets better. |
A taxi driver in Oshogbo, who craved anonymity, condemned the reluctance of the workers to shift ground for the State Government and bring an end to the strike.I'm glad ordinary Nigerians are beginning to see that this workers' salary increase is a diversion of wealth to unionised labour. Most Nigerians don't work for the Govt nor are they dependants of those who do yet, we have demands for almost all Govt expenditure to be spent on a tiny segment of the populace. |
His posts are a bit of a joke. If one person deserves credit, it's Sanusi who as the Central Bank Gov tries to manage inflation by setting interest rates and maintaining the Naira's exchange rates. In any case, this is just one report and there is no cause for celebration until we maintain a single digit inflation rate over a considerable period. The rapid rise in inflation is a global phenomenon for emerging markets, so it's not unique to Nigeria. |
I thought the joke was fresh until I saw the Utd thread . . . . . joke's been out since this morning. Anyway, still funny ![]() |
Old Trafford, Manchester burning! CCTVs have captured Arsene Wenger and other members of Arsenal FC running around looting the trophy cabinet! |
Apparently, EDL are now involved. Gangs of about a 100 white men running around Enfield screaming, "Get the Pakis". http://twitter.com/#!/search?q=%23Enfield |
There are disputes regarding the significance of a downgrade of US credit ratings but it will certainly mean more expensive credit for everyone - your loans will be more expensive for instance. For Nigeria, the risk is that the world is going into Credit Crisis 2 and I know we're not prepared with foreign reserves barely increased despite the rise in oil prices and our 'rainy day' fund severely depleted already. We're in uncharted territory and it's not going to be fun. |
A christian midwife is suing hospital bosses for making her wear scrub trousers rather than a dress in the operating theatre, saying it is against her religious beliefs.http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23974811-midwife-forced-to-wear-trousers.do |
It's amazing organised labour in Nigeria only fights for salary increments which in the long run does not improve living standards as inflation and the bad policy environment eats away at increases. You never hear about labour going on strikes over the power situation is fixed or in protest against acts of corruption or the innumerable acts of ineptitude that ails this country. They have a narrow minded view which is exclusively about getting more wages. Obviously, they're fighting for their perception of self-interest but to have a situation where Nigeria's statutory minimum wage far exceeds that of other countries at the same level of economic development is not in the national interest. The public wage bill is excessive and we can't achieve any meaningful growth if the bulk of Govt spending goes towards paying workers' salaries when those workers and their dependants constitute a tiny minority of the population. The amazing thing is that the average Nigerian doesn't see this proving once again that we're not a very bright bunch. You get the country you deserve, I guess. |
What a wonderful country. LAGOS — Nigerian security forces killed at least 23 people after a bomb blast blamed on Islamists over the weekend, allegedly randomly shooting and burning a market, Amnesty International said on Monday.http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5ifSqE_f1gdpHIqT9e0I_urvL9BPQ?docId=CNG.643344498e2f2a59f170cf3592a94df0.621 |

Acts of terror are carried out in the name of Islam everyday. Finding 1 incident where an act of terror was carried out, purportedly in the name of Christianity, does not disprove the exceptionally violent nature of many of the Muslim faith. You can say that this case is an exception that proves the norm. There are also many incidents where acts of terror have been perpetrated by those of no faith in the name of one secular ideology or the other. While violence has been associated with countless causes, whether faith based or secular, it's the frequent resort to violence in the name of Islam that makes Islam unique. |
This figure is grossly inaccurate. Nigeria could not have spent $653bn on importation over a 4 year period. I can't believe the shocking level of our journalism. |
texazzpete:That occurred when oil prices went from $147 p/b to $33 p/b and the USD spiked against other currencies which meant that Soludo could not have done anything other than manage the Naira's decline. The difference today is that oil prices are high and the USD is weak, yet, the Naira is still weak. That's more the fault of the FG and its reckless spending but little to do with Sanusi. My gripe with him is that he is wasting foreign reserves trying to hold the Naira's official rate in a narrow band between N155 - N150 when the real value of the Naira is much lower. |
I haven't been up to speed in Nigerian issues to comment fully but I agree, I think I've made this point before here, that our Central Bank governor has to be someone with impeccable academic credentials. This is not an ode to credentialism but a recognition that, unlike the developed countries with a depth of highly qualified support staff, the governor has to have an excellent mastery of the pertinent issues. This is where Sanusi is lacking. He does, however, trump the likes of Soludo in respect of personal integrity, at least, by Nigerian standards. Not sure whether that makes up for his other competent issues. |
The Nigerian woman who travelled to Britain to give birth to quins at the taxpayer’s expense is married to a wealthy businessman.Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2012757/Bimbo-Ayelabola-Nigerian-cost-NHS-200k-married-tycoon.html#ixzz1RaBKIRxA |
GAR3TH:Wouldn't the proper comparison be with the geographical mass of the area you are protecting and the scale of the flooding threat? Comparing spending on a per head basis makes no sense. |
I'm not sure the murder rate in the UK is exceptional. The murder rate in the US is certainly higher. The fact that wall to wall coverage is given to each death is telling. In Nigeria, it's only when prominent people die or numerous deaths occur in a spectacular outbreak of violence that the media attention is grabbed. |
The IBB+Abacha years were probably the worst in Nigerian history. The country was completely destroyed economically. So what place does IBB have to lecture anyone on governance?
Th Shagari and Buhari years were the worst. You simply have to look at the sheer magnitude of the contraction of the economy in those years. IBB is not far behind, I will say he was the third worst. |
justwise:British scroungers scrounging on Britain's money is a different to a Nigerian who's already cost Britain £200k. She's already scrounged more than many scroungers and as if that's not enough, she's purportedly breaking British law for good measure. |
justwise:Of course you do, you're a Nigerian. You admire her for breaking the law, if the story's true. |
EzeUche:I presume you are going to force international airlines at gunpoint to fly to Enugu. |
Converting Enugu Airport to an international airport is a waste of money. There are too many prestige projects in Nigeria and we seem to have a peculiar thing for airports. We will see how many international flights Enugu gets. |
Update today: The Nigerian who cost the NHS up to £200,000 after travelling to Britain while expecting quintuplets has been illegally working as an Avon lady.Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2011249/Nigerian-mother-cost-NHS-200k-working-illegally-Avon-Lady.html#ixzz1RDDL0z6B |
kalokalo:Thanks for that correction. How do you buy mortgage financed properties in UK with assets solely in Nigeria. He's got properties in the UK worth £2.4m. I presume he put down at least a 10% deposit, £240k. He's effectively become a millionaire working as a public official. |
According to the form filled by the governor, the total amount of cash he has in banks in the country is N292, 432, 107.00 while he has none in any foreign account.Let's see: Cash - N292m House in Ibadan - N250m Another house in Ibadan - N150m House in Lagos - N300m House in Abuja - N300m That's nearly N1.3bn (or around $8.5m) in Nigeria alone before counting the declared assets abroad. Clearly, most of his wealth is from his time as Senator not his time as the MD of the subsidiary of Shell. |
Looks like UK intelligence services believe we're turning into the next Pakistan http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2011/07/03/david-cameron-warned-of-nigerian-terror-threat-as-al-qaeda-chooses-its-next-hq-115875-23243365/ |
