" If the “soft landing” option is favoured by Buhari, the EFCC may not proceed with filing criminal charges while the case at the CCT could become academic because the major punishment for Onnoghen would have been his removal from office.

He could be banned from holding public office for 10 years, while his assets believed to have been acquired illegitimately will be confiscated"
Na waooo
Right. But if specific incidents of bribery are involved, the matter shouldn't end there - there's vacancy in jail. But this is Nigeria, of course.

With this now, the Muslim North has control over the executive, legislative and judiciary.
People have been blinded, another form of Islamisation is when all important positions are held by Muslims. With Onnoghen gone, the last stronghold, Tanko will be appointed as the official Chief Justice.

They must have pressured Onnoghen to leave.
God help us all.

HOW DO A CIVIL SERVANT HAS 41 MILLION NAIRA AND A MILLION DOLLARS IN HIS ACCOUNT, EVEN PRIVATE PRACTISE WONT FETCH YOU A MILLION DOLLARS.

YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO THINK.

And you're the one who knows how to think? Pity.

First, how do you call someone who's practiced law privately for almost (if not more than) 40 years, a civil servant? Do you know how much he charges for consultation? These guys charge millions. There's nothing wrong there. Do you know how much it may have cost to get his services? Do you know what it means to have risen to the position of a chief justice? Plus his private investments? And gifts.

You've never been among the rich and powerful, so you'd not understand. So you were expecting him to have just N500k in his account? Lol. Is he a member of your family?

N41million is even too small for someone of his calibre.

This is a great shame to both executives and d judiciary. If he is indeed not guilty he would have fought this case to d end, and if the executives know that he is guilty why not prosecuting him till d end.
He is gonna enjoy the benefits like those who are upright while doing their works. How can we encourage those who are doing the right things in this country?

Tanko will be appointed, not because he is a northerner but because he's the second highest ranked official to Onnoghen in the Nigerian judiciary council. Please you guys should stop "ethnicizing" and "religionizing" everything on this forum.

The real national and economic parasite, just like former governors and other high profile public officials, they rake in corrupt money, loot and steal and still walk into the sunset with the Nigerian taxpayers funding their expensive lifestyle forever.

This is the main reason why we spend 75% of our budgets on recurrent expenditure and less than 25% on 200 million Nigerians, this is why there's never any money left for roads, bridges, hospitals, potable water to drink, electricity and so on, nearly every kobo stays and gets consumed in Abuja by the various arms of government, national and state political elites.

This is why we must always borrow to fund basic infrastructures.

This is on top of paying hundreds of lawmakers the highest legislative salaries and benefits in the world while in office and until they die, also why we budget hundreds of billions for task duplicating agencies and parastatals doing the same thing ministries are doing or should be doing, consultants hiring as back door looting channels by public officials and so on.

We are not going anywhere developmentally until we get rid of these worthless overheads and economic parasites holding us back.

Sorry to say, Nigeria is not going anywhere, not in our lifetime.

Welcome to Nigeria.

Every Former President/VP, Retired General (including Buhari), Retired VC, State governors and deputies, Senate Presidents get are living large on pensions.

he is a civil servant that has private practise as aside business, have you read his biography before? for him to be a a chief justice, he mustt have worked with the government court thus making him a civil servant, even if he has been a lawyer for more than 40 years, did he start collecting high consultation fees after he graduated from law school, he went through growth and experiences, now not only 41 million was found in his account but some millions of dollars were also found in his domiciliary account which he didnt declare, if he was truthful and not scared he would have declared it.

He resigned. This makes the CCT trial academic because what they would have recommended if he's found guilty would be his removAl from office. The only thing left now would be if the EFCC is willing to continue to pursue their own case of him receiving monetart gifts from lawyers and also having humongous sums in his account. If they win this then he may still be stripped of all entitlements.

One of his colleagues came forward claiming ownership of some money in his dollars account. Plus gifts. You can rake up millions practicing law in a couple of years if you're renowned. Could need 20 years experience.

The crux of the matter is that Onnoghen is not too small for the N41m.

No offer! What offer after NJC has recommended his retirement? Which PMB may not accept and fire him instead. If he is convicted in CCT, he would have gone with nothing! With this retirement, he preempt his retirement or firing and he get to keep his pension

You've said it the way it is.
This is a very scary situation we find ourselves in this nation coupled with dwindling oil revenue.

We need a real revolution in this nation; a bloody one.
Not only will the system need change, our present crop of politicians will need to be phased out totally.

Nigeria , if care is not taken, would soon become a nation for sale to the highest bidder. It is gradually taking root and I fear for generations unborn.
