Why should the police be angry? They are public figures. I wonder the kind of law we have ( even abroad) where paparazzi are free to snap celebrities indiscriminately and are not reprimanded |

Some people like ISHIT4BODY sound like educated illitrates, maybe he/she attended night school. where is it in the constitution or in print that people should not take pictures. what you should be asking is the event that led to that. |

The suit shows one thing-that the Nigeria Police is beginning to act responsibly to percieved provocation. This is a fact that is lost to those in my immediate vicinity. On the other hand maybe they just want to prove something to the law graduate. Either way, it is a welcomed development esp when you consider that our law graduate physically checks-out: no need for medical report to prove anything in court |

Oh wow, if that really is ishit4body in the pic then she has a nice bod. Keep up the good work girl. @topic: I see nothing wrong with what the dude did. I take pics of the idiotic police officers here in New York. I once caught some police officers slamming a high school student to the ground the arrest her. I made sure I took pics right in front of them. I wish I could say I was in shock but I really wasn't. It was three huge officers tackling a kid. The kid was barely 5'2" . |

i can't believe someone actually said he should be sentenced to jail with hard labour. there are entire districts in lagos that are being terrorized by armed robbers and the police isn't doing much to stop the criminals. there are all sorts of criminal activities they could spend their time on, but they have time to prosecute the boy who snapped them. many people have been locked up in jail for years without a trial, and they have time for something this trivial. i think they just want money, and the boy would pay them all off if he is wise. even if it is truly illegal, it's hardly a criminal case and so he should get a fine and not a jail term. |
Re: Police Arraign 25-year-old For Taking Picture With Blackberry Phone by maxxy: 6:04pm On Nov 15, 2010 |
Though am not a Police basher, the true facts of this matter is hilarious. The guy was arrested as he was taking pictures of the named officers as they were collecting their usual egunje from motorists, and that appears to me to be something within the powers of a private citizen to do (collecting and preserving evidence of criminal activity). On the day of his arraignment in court, even the magistrate couldn't help smirking at the second charge of assault against the Americana ie assaulting two police officers who were fully armed. Mind you, the assault was not that he took their pictures, but that he was beating up the officers. I pity the guy for the welcome ceremony put together by the NPF, and he may actually miss his chance for Law School because of the 'fit and proper rule' (lawyers will understand). |

Every day we wake up to ridiculous and unheard of news from Nigeria, . . . . which kain thing be this? |
Re: Police Arraign 25-year-old For Taking Picture With Blackberry Phone by logica(m): 6:05pm On Nov 15, 2010 |
ishit4body indeed. . . You dey really shit for body. The links you are posting seem to confirm that it is not illegal to take the picture of a cop (in public). Matter of fact, the picture of anything or anybody in public sight is pretty much open to be taken. |

This is Naija. The guy made a mistake. Why in hell would he take their pics without their consent? To post it on Nairaland? Sorry bro, if your pocket is shallow, you got droppings to swallow! |

I'm not here to support the Nigerian police but their decision of taken the guy to court serves him right. If he had gotten away with such an awful act, other Nigerians will imitate him and that doesn't sound good for a law abiding citizen irrespective of his status. |
Re: Police Arraign 25-year-old For Taking Picture With Blackberry Phone by InkedNerd(f): 6:15pm On Nov 15, 2010 |
ohaechesi: Irresponsible? Yeah right. Now suppose this was a photo of the officers accepting money? Honestly, the reason why a lot of horrid crimes exist in Nigeria is because no one speaks out. People tend to be blasé and then the behavior of staying silent becomes normalized. |
Re: Police Arraign 25-year-old For Taking Picture With Blackberry Phone by logica(m): 6:16pm On Nov 15, 2010 |
ohaechesi:See this hater more concerned about status. What was the awful act and what is his status you are talking about? |

logica: lol, I'll tell you what his "awful crime" was--It was not being a sheep and falling in line like everyone else. I'm pretty sure there were other people there who were either video taping it or taking pictures. Don't be surprised if other pictures surface later on. |

MOORCH MOORE:You're totally wrong there. I mean does common sense not tell you that you shouldn't take pictures of anyone, not to talk of law enforcement officials,(!!) without their consent. What difference does it make if he just came into the country? |

bidemi12:I need not prove anything to you. However in Nigeria taking personal pictures of police personnel without their consent is a crime. Maybe in this instance the guy thought that because he is in Nigeria he could act anyhow and even lacked the humility to acknowledge his offence. |
