idealogical:
[s]Innoson's marketing strategy and survival depend solely on government patronage, this company after so many years is still not a mainstream company with products all over the country, in private garages, on our streets and everywhere., their main focus is state and FG contracts.

To his credit, he's lobbying the CBN for N4 billion loan, but I'm not sure if he's importing the respirators if he's manufacturing them or just assembling them, but I honestly think Inosson should by now very dominant in Nigeria and West Africa.

Due to the seriousness of the situation, I think the government should give him the loan directly or loan him some of the donated funds to start and ramp-up production.

You afonjas are the most useless, envious and hateful piece of shit I have ever seen. Take a look at your post; trying so much to hide your hate. Spits!

There is a global demand for ventilators at the moment, he doesn’t even need to sell to Nigeria. Countries all over the world would rush him if he can deliver.

But truth be told, Innoson cannot produce any ventilators anytime soon even if FG gives him N4b. It will take him nothing less than 3-6 months to come up with anything close to a ventilator. Trump had to activate the defense production act to force GM to start producing ventilators. Even at that, GM has made it clear it can only deliver about 4,000 ventilators by April ending even though Trump is requesting 40,000. That’s to tell you how complicated the process of producing ventilators is.

I saw a BBC clip this morning where a reporter was lamenting that a consortium of Mercedes and Mclaren could only produce 30 ventilators. Innoson is nowhere near all these companies in terms of anything. Again, Innoson imports 95% of his parts from China. All he does in Nigeria is assemble.

BEST COMMENT SO FAR FROM AN INFORMED SOURCE.

He should produce one good ventilator to prove he can do it, the attention will follow!!!

I agree with you absolutely, let him produce one good one here and let us see. In this country we have had situations were Nigerians were issued licenses to build refineries, they never did because it was cheaper for them to import and get subsidies.

Tech startups are joining Nigeria’s fight against coronavirus

In Nigeria, tech startups are beginning to step up too. Fledgling tech companies in Nigeria have been successful in the last few years in helping to reposition the country’s commercial capital, Lagos as Africa’s leading tech hub, particularly when it comes to funding and innovation. Last year local startups raised nearly $650 million, about half of all startup funding in Africa.

But innovative approaches to problem-solving in a crisis maybe the most crucial offering from these young companies. Lifebank, a health startup that finds and delivers blood to patients has turned its attention to seeking critical medical equipment for Covid-19 treatment and has created a national register to track hospitals with working ventilators and respirators. Hotel booking platform Hotels.ng has partnered with hotels to create isolation centers across Nigeria, an added buffer for the country’s limited quarantine facilities.

For its part, Jumia, the pan-African e-commerce giant, has donated face masks to Nigeria’s health ministry and has replicated the gesture in Kenya, Ivory Coast, Uganda and Morocco. Jumia has also offered its logistics network to distribute health products for local authorities.

Some of the support has come in form of targeted funding too. One year-old genomics research startup 54gene has launched a $500,000 fund to boost local testing capacity for coronavirus. It’s a significant move especially given Nigeria’s alarmingly low number of tests: South Africa has tested 100 times more people than Nigeria. Ventures Platform, a local VC firm, has also partnered with the Lagos science and research agency to find and fund innovative tech-based solutions that tackle coronavirus-related issues.

The efforts add to the impact young tech companies are having in Africa’s most populous country—from facilitating financial inclusion and solving perennial electricity problems to plugging gaps in local healthcare—and show how innovative thinking can be applied to easing the burden of the pandemic on Africa’s largest economy and by extension other countries in Africa. This is especially the case amid growing concerns about the level of the outbreak in Nigeria being understated given its low testing numbers.

https://qz.com/africa/1828438/coronavirus-nigerian-tech-startups-step-up-to-assist-government/

These are young Nigerians answering the call and using their skills and ingenuity to help their country without begging or demanding loan from the FG, they are using their own labor and resources to make a change, they are even young enough to be innoson's children.

Innoson will never meet demand especially not for proper ventilators. Some countries have already come up with prototypes for simpler ventilators that can be assembled locally.

He is right. If Bayero can start without FG, Innoson can too. We don't know if Innoson is in talks with the FG. This government have patronised Innoson despite that it is not the only locally assembly plant in the country, none of you came out to criticize that action.

You can ask for free ventilators, Bayero University can't meet up demand. But a company wants to produce in quantity for you. But you can't reason with the company

Bashir like all zombies remain a zombie

Dangote didn't just start, he got govt backing which is very good. Do you know how many times CBN and other senior officials visited his site? This is how a country should run. You don't expect Innoson to run to a bank and take 4billion loan just on HOPE that govt will buy, who does that?

So if innoson makes the ventilators, FG and states won't buy? Your comparison is baseless. Do you know how many times state governments have visited innosons factory and bought their trucks? Who told you FG doesn't support Innoson?

Is there any home grown manufacturer that doesn't get concession from the government.

For people like you the only support you understand is credit alert.

Except you're an Innoson spokesperson speaking with facts, don't come here and demonize the federal government.

The Twit was the man's personal opinion not the federal government's.

Innoson is a Private Business man he can't go into producing Ventilators without a Ready market to buy it . so that 4 billion maybe contract to supply Govt 5000 ventilators . Just like Dangote cannot Build Refinery without direct assurance of oil well from the Nigeria Government

You are right, you made valid points and have said is all. Do you know that it is cheaper and quicker to import electricity prepaid meters than wait for the ones assembled in this country which are very expensive and it takes longer time to get it delivered.

FG cannot give N4bn to Innoson. You don't even know what Innoson is planning. You don't know what is going on but FG should give out N4bn because Innoson said so. We don't know the details of Bayero's production. Let's not assume.

Innoson knows the government. They ahve worked together in the past. Nothing about this present issue is bigotry except for overzealous bigots who are used to seeing bigotry everywhere.

Agboriotejoye:

I still insist he's an idiot. Since Bayero is now producing, let FG give them the 4bn innoson is asking for to expand production. With that there won't be any need to beg Elon.
This guy is a barefaced liar that's where I'm going. When did Bayero develop an air compression factory that they're producing ventilators. They might be THINKING of doing so but definitely not doing it. If they were, and this govt is not helping them expand to meet at least half of our demands, then the govt is more stupid than I thought.

Bashir was wrong on this.

The guy's plant is for cars, I believe to make the ventilators some modification needs to be made and of course with cost implication.

The guy has to be sure of market/demand before going into it. The automakers in the US (GM, Ford et al), were asked by Govt to make the ventilators.

There are many hospitals in Nigeria and outside the country that will buy these ventilators without relying on Government.

The government of those countries have made arrangement with companies in their own country to produce for them. Why wont Nigeria make arrangements with a company locally? They prefer to beg online.

You need to first develop a prototype that can be approved by the NCDC before the government can place orders

Liar.. Dangote was importing and rebagging cement before it ventured into refining with full govt backing. Their core competence was in cement, import and logistics

He ventured into cement manufacturing, before refinery. Dangote cement has manufacturing plants in Ogun State, Kogi state and about 10 African countries. The company made a profit after tax of N390 billion in 2018 and N240 billion in 2019. The fall in profitability in the year 2019 was due to reduced volume of product sold and losses suffered in some African countries which affected the company's bottom line

Paid tax of about N70 billion to FGN in 2018.

Dangote cement and MTN Nigeria are the 2 most capitalised companies on the Nigerian stock exchange.
